Your Teen Is Falling Asleep in Class

Teens have a busy morning schedule as they need to wake up and get moving very early in order to catch a bus and get to school by the required time. This means teens need to get their rest the night before or they will be too tired to learn anything at school. 1

When a teen falls asleep in class, two things happen: he/she misses what is being taught and he/she loses the respect of the teacher. He/She may also receive a consequence (后果) from the school, depending on the classroom discipline (紀(jì)律) policy. 2

To prevent your teen from being sleepy in class, try these three tips:

*Set a time for “l(fā)ights out” on school nights. This is never be any later than 10 p.m. and preferably 9 p.m. 3 Soft music can be on and used to help calm your teen.

*Help your teen develop a nighttime routine (常規(guī)) that involves(牽涉) activities that slow them down for the end of the day. 4 Turning off the computer and disconnecting from friends and the excitement of the day an hour before bedtime will also help your teen relax.

* 5 This will reinforce (增強(qiáng)) what it feels like to be rested and capable (有能力)of achieving what he/she wants.

A. What's worse, they may even fall asleep in class.

B. Taking a bath and reading are two activities that work well.

C. Set a good example and show him/her your love for learning.

D. Point out the positives after your teen has had a good night's rest.

E. “Lights out” means the computer, television, lights and cell phone should be off.

F. All of these things affect your teen's academic(學(xué)術(shù)) success and can be avoided(避免).

G. While your teen keeps his/her goals(目標(biāo)) in line with(與……一致) your expectations, he/she may have his/her own goals.

【題目】Camping wild is a wonderful way to experience the natural world and,at its best,it makes little environmental influence. But with increasing numbers of people wanting to escape into the wilderness,it is becoming more and more important to camp unobtrusively(不引人注目地)and leave no mark.

Wild camping is not permitted in many places, particularly in crowded lowland Britain.Wherever you are, find out about organizations responsible for managing wild spaces, and contact them to find out their policy on camping and shelter building. For example,it is fine to camp wild in remote parts of Scotland, but in England you must ask the landowner's permission, except in national parks.

Camping is about having relaxation, sleeping outdoors, experiencing bad weather, and making do without modem conveniences.A busy,fully-equipped campsite(野營(yíng)地)seems to go against this,so seek out smaller, more remote places with easy access to open spaces and perhaps beaches.Better still, find a campsite with no road access: walking in makes a real adventure.

Finding the right spot to camp is the first step to guaranteeing a good night's sleep.Choose a campsite with privacy and minimum influence on others and the environment.Try to use an area where people have obviously camped before rather than creating a new spot. When camping in woodland, avoid standing dead trees, which may fall on a windy night.Avoid animal runs and caves, and possible homes of biting insects.Make sure you have most protection on the windward side.If you make a fire,do so downwind of your shelter.Always consider what influence you might have on the natural world.Avoid damaging plants.A good campsite is found, not made—changing it should be unnecessary.

1You needn't ask for permission when camping in .

A. national parks in England B. most parts of Scotland

C. crowded lowland Britain D. most parts of England

2The author thinks that a good campsite is one .

A. with easy access B. used previously

C. with modern conveniences D. far away from beaches

3The last paragraph mainly deals with .

A. protecting animals B. building a campfire

C. camping in woodland D. finding a campsite with privacy

4The passage is mainly about .

A. the protection of campsites B. the importance of wild camping

C. the human influence on campsites D. the dos and don'ts of wild camping

【題目】Dear Alfred,

I want to tell you how important your help is to my life.

Growing up, I had people telling me I was too slow, though, with an IQ of 150+ at 17, I’m anything but stupid. The fact was that I was found to have ADHD. Anxious all the time, I was unable to keep focused for more than an hour at a time.

However, when something did interest me, I could become absorbed. In high school, I became curious about the computer, and built my first website. Moreover, I completed the senior course of Computer Basics, plus five relevant pre-college courses.

While I was exploring my curiosity, my disease got worse. I wanted to go to college after high school, but couldn’t. So, I was killing my time at home until June 2012 when I discovered the online computer courses of your training center.

Since then, I have taken courses like Data Science and Advanced Mathematics. Currently, I’m learning your Probability course. I have hundreds of printer paper, covered in self-written notes from your videos. This has given me a purpose.

Last year, I spent all my time looking for a job where, without dealing with the public, I could work alone, but still have a team to talk to. Luckily, I discovered the job—Data Analyst—this month and have been going full steam ahead. I want to prove that I can teach myself a respectful profession, without going to college, and be just as good as, if not better than, my competitors.

Thank you. You’ve given me hope that I can follow my heart. For the first time, I feel good about myself because I’m doing something, not because someone told me I was doing good. I feel whole.

This is why you’re saving my life.

Yours,

Tanis

I felt delighted to be informed the news that I would be our Student Union’s next minister of health. Therefore, when I calmed down, I began to realize what challenging the job would be. I can still remember the first time I hold a meeting with all the members, that was a real challenge for me. With so many eyes fixing on me, I struggled to speak as my face and ears turned complete red. I had never felt so nervous ago.

Although I went through a series of difficulty, I gained a lot as well — a plenty of new friends, the ability to communicate and an improvement in my organizational skills.
