【題目】How to stick to your own opinion in socializing ?
When it comes to your life , the opinion of others should matter very little . I am not talking about your friends and family , but others who have no importance in your reality – like your social peers and others like them . They are unimportant to your life , and yet you secretly struggle for approval at the cost of your own . Remember , your opinion is king .
Start by being your true self . Allowing your true self to appear and connect with people on a more real level helps them in turn do the same with you . There is openness and honesty in the interaction . At the end of the day this is what we all want – the joy of true and meaningful connections .
Next , evaluate your decisions . Are they representing who you are or are they the result of other people’s opinion ? Practice your ability not to be affected by pressure and learn to take nothing personally . When we are bothered by outer criticisms , it influences and changes our behavior . Don’t look to others for guidance on how to behave . Don’t look for approval . If you don’t need approval , you won’t have a reason to try to impress people or be impressed by them .
And finally , be real in EVERY situation . As you express your real self , others will think highly of you and the few who don’t – don’t matter anyway . Be willing to be judged , and then not take it to heart . If all this is a bit scary , then start small . Rather than not caring at all what others think , start by just caring a little less . No one outside your inner circle should get a vote or pass judgment or have influence on how you live your life .

Explaining stress management to an audience, the lecturer raised a glass of water and asked “How heavy is this glass of water?” Answer called out ranged from 20g to 500g.
The lecturer replied, “The absolute weight doesn’t matter. It depends on how long you try to hold it. If I hold it for a minute, that’s not a problem. If I hold it for an hour, I’ll have an ache in my right arm. If I hold it for a day, you’ll have to call an ambulance. In each case, it’s the same weight, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes.”
He continued, “And that’s the way it is with stress management. If we carry our burdens all the time, sooner or later, as the burden becomes increasingly heavy, we won’t be able to carry on.”
Here are 5 simple ways to increase your peace of mind:
【1】__________________________________________.
Pushing a daunting task back is like holding a glass of water in an outstretched arm. At first nothing happens, but if you do it for hours or even days, you will soon feel the stress. Do it first and enjoy increased productivity and peace of mind for the rest of the day.
【2】__________________________________________.
You make plans to go outside with friends. But at the last minute, it starts raining. What’s your reaction? Some people feel upset and angry, and find the nearest person and start complaining. But that’s not going to accomplish anything. The rain doesn’t care. What I do in such a situation is go for a quick walk in the park, or just lie in bed reading a good book, listening to the rain beating on my window.
【3】_________________________________________.
I used to rarely dance, because I was worried of what others would think. Then, one day, I decided that enough was enough. So the next time I went out with my friends, I just danced like nobody was watching. And the funny thing was --- nobody cared.
【4】_________________________________________.
Just list 3 simple things about any part of your life that you love. Like “3 simple things I love about the room I’m in right now”, or “3simple things I love about this week”, or anything else.
This is useful if you’re ever bored while stuck in traffic, or waiting in the grocery store checkout lane.
【5】________________________________________.
Do it when you are under great stress, focusing only on that breath and nothing else in the whole world. This technique sounds extremely simple, but you won’t believe how much it can immediately increase your peace of mind.

【題目】“Mind over matter” is an English saying meaning that we can control our bodies with our minds. Now scientists are finding increasing evidence that our mind can have a great effect on our physical health. Since our mind influences how we feel, it’s not true to say if someone is ill just because he feels ill.
The influence of the mind on how well we feel is the basis of what is known as the placebo effect. A placebo (which is Latin for “I shall please”) is a harmless, inactive substance. Patients are sometimes given placebo pills and begin to feel better because they believe that they have been given real drugs and expect to respond to them. The placebo effect is very strong: research on pain suggests that up to 30% of the effect of most painkillers is a placebo effect.
So if it is so powerful, why don’t doctors use it today?
According to Dr Persaud, they really do. “All these things like seeing a doctor, going to a hospital, and being scanned(掃描) have a very strong placebo effect,” he says.
【1】According to the first paragraph, if you feel ill.
A. you don’t need to see a doctor
B. it doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re physically ill
C. you are in good condition
D. it is obvious that you suffer from a serious disease
【2】The English saying “mind over matter” means that .
A. a sound mind is less important than a good health
B. our mind has a strong effect on our body
C. our physical health has nothing to do with our mind
D. mental health mainly depends on our physical health
【3】According to the passage, placebos .
A. may make patients feel worse
B. are not effective pills
C. are not real drugs
D. can relieve all kinds of pains
【4】From the passage it can be seen that there will be no placebo effect if a patient .
A. is dressed in white B. has a physical exam
C. takes placebo pills D. sees a doctor

Energy drink manufacturers have compared the amount of caffeine in their products to that in hot drinks sold in coffee houses, but their products are often packaged in very large sizes and they are not sold in 【5】 environments like coffee houses, which typically would not serve young children. Energy drinks are widely available in 【6】 stores next to traditional soft drinks, typically packaged in very similar cans and using similar marketing techniques.
Some energy drinks in many of the popular lines can contain up to 400 mg of caffeine per can. In comparison, a cup of coffee typically has around 100 mg of caffeine.
