There is an old Spanish proverb which states, “Tomorrow is often the busiest day of the week”. 1. I’d say, too many. Our dreams should not, and cannot wait. We have to go for them now! Here’s why.

1. 2.

Nobody likes to talk about death, but the reality is that everybody is going to die at one point. None of us know the day, or the hour. Therefore, today is all we have. Don’t go to your grave with unfulfilled dreams. Make the decision to go after every dream, big or small right now.

2. The world is waiting on your gift.

I know this may be hard to believe, but the world is waiting on YOU! Yes, YOU! 3. Sure, other people may be able to sing. But they’ll never be able to sing exactly like you. Sure other people can write, but they’ll never be able to write from the same perspective in which you write. Don’t deprive the world of your gift. It’s the oxygen that we need to survive. Thus, it is your responsibility to figure out exactly what your gift is, and use to better your life and the lives of those around you.

3. 4.

You can dream about writing the great American play that you want, but it’s never going to happen unless you actually put pen to paper. You can dream about finding a cure for cancer, but it will never happen unless you actually go to school to become equipped with the necessary tools to find that cure. 5. They require you to get your head out of the clouds, and actually do the work to make them happen. Get to it!

A. You can’t let fear win.

B. Tomorrow is not promised.

C. In other words, dreams don’t work unless you do.

D. How many times have we put off our dreams until tomorrow?

E. You were born into the world with a unique gift, which nobody on this earth can duplicate.

F. Possibilities you never knew existed are waiting on you.

G. Unless you take the first step, your dreams will never come true.

A new study warns that about thirty percent of the world’s people may not have enough water by the year 2025.

A private American organization called Population Action International(PAI) did the new study. It says more than 335 million people lack enough water now.The people live in 28 countries. Most of the countries are in Africa or the Middle East.

PAI researcher Robert Engelman says by the year 2025,about 3,000 million people may lack water. At least 18 more countries are expected to have severe water problems. The demand for water keeps increasing.Yet the amount of water on Earth stays the same.

Mr.Engelman says the population in countries that lack water is growing faster than in other parts of the world. He says population growth in these countries will continue to increase.

The report says lack of water in the future may result in several problems. It may increase health problems.Lack of water often means drinking waters is not safe.Mr.Engelman says there are problems all over the world because of diseases, such as cholera which are carried in water.

Lack of water may also result in more international conflict.Countries may have to compete for water in the future. Some countries now get sixty percent of their fresh water from other countries. And the report says lack of water would affect the ability to improve their economies. This is because new industries often need large amounts of water when they are beginning.

The Population Action International study gives several solutions to the water problem. One way,it says,is to find ways to use water for more than one purpose.Another way is to teach people to be careful not to waste water.A third way is to use less water for agriculture.

The report also says long--term solutions to the water problem must include controls on population growth.

Recently a professor of philosophy(哲學(xué))in the United States has written a book called Money and the Meaning of Life. He has discovered that how we deal with money in our day to day life has more meaning than we usually think. One of the exercises he has asked his students to do is to keep a record of every penny they spend for a week. From the way they spend their money, they can see what they really value(重視)in life.

The professor says our relation with others often becomes clearly defined(明確)when money enters the picture. You might have wonderful friendship with somebody and you think that you are very good friends. But you will know him only when you ask him to lend you some money. If he does,it brings something to the relationship that seems stronger than ever before. Otherwise it can suddenly weaken the relationship if he doesn’t. Since money is so important to us, we consider those who are rich to be very important. The professor interviews some rich people in his research for his book.

Question: What is the most surprising thing you have discovered about being rich?

Answer : The most surprising thing is why people give me so much respect(尊重). I am nothing.I don’t know much. All I am is rich.

People just have an idea of making more and more money, but what is it for? How much money do I need for any given purpose in my life? In his book, the professor uncovered an important need in modern society:to bring back the idea that money is a tool rather than the end.Money plays an important role in the material world, but expecting money to give happiness may be missing the meaning of life.

On Nov.18th,1908, three men went up in a balloon. They started early in London. The headman was Augusta Gaudron, and the other two men were Tannar and Maitland. They had a big balloon and they were ready for a long way.

Soon they heard the sea. They were carrying the usual rope, and it was hanging down from the basket of the balloon. At the end of the rope they had tied a metal box. This could hold water, or it could be empty. So they were able to change its weight. It was for use over the sea. They were also carrying some bags of sand.

After the sun rose, the balloon went higher. It went up to 3,000 metres, and the air was very cold. The water in the balloon became ice. Snow fell past the men's basket, and they could see more snow on the ground. The men tried to throw out some more sand; but it was hard. They tried to break the icy sand with their knives, but it was not easy. The work was slow and they were still falling, so they had to drop some whole bags of sand. One of them fell on an icy lake and made a black hole in the ice.

At last they pulled the box into the basket. It was still snowing; so they climbed to get away from the snow. They rose to 5,100 metres! Everything became icy. They were so cold that they decided to land. They came down in Poland heavily but safely. They had travelled 1,797 kilometers from London!

Food festivals around the world

Stilton Cheese Rolling

May Day is a traditional day for celebrations, but the 2,000 English villagers of Stilton must be the only people in the world who include checsc rolling in their annual plans. Teams of four, dressed in a variety of strange and funny clothes , roll a complete cheese along a 50-metre course. On the way, they must not kick or throw their cheese, or go into their competitors' lane. Competition is fierce and the chief prize is a complete Stilton cheese weighing about four kilos (disappointingly, but understandably the cheeses used in the race are wooden ones). All the competitors arc served with beer or port wine, the traditional accompaniment for Stilton cheese.
