【題目】With beautiful canals, top art museums, and cycling culture I Amsterdam is one of the most popular travel destinations in the world. As the capital and most populous city in the Netherlands, it’s often referred to as the “Venice of the North” because of its wide system of bridges and canals. Here are some key points for you to keep in mind while planning a trip there.
Must-See Attractions
Most visitors begin their Amsterdam adventure in the Old Centre, which is full of traditional architecture, shopping centers, and coffee shops. The top museums to visit are the Rijks museum, the Ann Frank House, and the Van Gogh Museum. As a World Heritage Site, the Canal Ring was originally built to attract wealthy home owners and an area for celebrity spotting and nightlife today.
Transportation
Travelers should be aware that Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is one of the busiest airports in the world. This airport is located about 15 kilometers southwest of the city center. You can catch a train from Schiphol to Amsterdam Central Station, which has many connecting routes. It’s not a good idea to drive a car to the city center. Cycling is popular here, and it’s easy to rent a cheap bike around the town. Amsterdam has a flat terrain (地形) and it’s a good choice to explore the city on foot.
Money-saving Tips
Look for accommodations in Amsterdam’s South District where rates are generally cheaper than in the city center.
Buy train tickets at the machine instead of the counter to save a bit of money.
Instead of hiring a tour guide, jump onto a canal boat. They’re inexpensive and will give you a unique point of view of the city.
【1】Why was the Canal Ring originally built in Amsterdam?
A. To build more museums.
B. To encourage rich people to live there.
C. To become a World Heritage Site.
D. To help people enjoy colorful nightlife.
【2】What does the author advise for tourists to visit city center in Amsterdam?
A. Hiring a local tour guide.
B. Traveling to the city center by taxi.

Even if trees cannot walk, they are still on the move.
In parts of the Arctic, entire forests are moving northward. Across the Arctic, temperatures are rising faster than anywhere else in the world. As that happens, the tree line that marks where forests stop and the treeless tundra(凍土地帶) starts has been shifting northward. Trees growing along the tree line must protect themselves from the cold wind. To do this, plants tend to grow horizontal(水平的) branches low to the ground. The energy it takes for trees to grow this way means they don't have enough energy to make seeds.
But as Earth's climate has been warming, trees no longer have to just grow horizontally. Many can instead grow up toward the sky. This takes less energy. And with all the leftover energy. these trees have started producing more seeds. This happens especially in places where the white spruce(白云杉) grows.
White spruce, which is a North American tree, is quite able to produce a lot of seeds, which can move long distances in the wind. When wind-blown seeds end up on the tundra beyond the tree line, they eventually can sprout(發(fā)芽) new trees. This explains how a forest can move. Of course, the process would work only if the tundra were warm enough. But in recent years, the whole planet has been warming.
New trees will provide shelters for some snow, keeping the sun's rays from making the white surface disappear. Instead, the trees absorb the sun's heat. This warms the surrounding air. The extra warmth encourages even more trees to produce seeds. That further boosts a forest's ability to expand. In addition, more trees will trap more snow, preventing much of it from being blown away. Snow can trap heat in the soil below, which encourages trees to grow. The recent rise of temperature has helped more trees grow. The recent rise of temperatures has helped more trees grow past the tree line. People worry about impacts on the animals that depend on frozen conditions for food and shelter.
(1)What is the main cause of the trees in the Arctic moving northward?
A.The rising temperature.
B.The shrinking of northern tundra.
C.The fierce and cold wind.
D.The abundant resources in the north.
(2)What does the underlined word“this”in Paragraph 2 mean?
A.To produce more seeds.
B.To move northward.
C.To respond to the climate change.
D.To protect themselves from the cold wind.
(3)What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A.New trees can trap the snow, which may make the soil colder.
B.The trapped snow prevents new trees from producing more seeds.
C.New trees can make the surrounding air warmer.
D.New trees can bring more food and shelter for local animals.
(4)The passage is most probably taken from _______.
A.a health report
B.a science report
C.a fashion magazine
D.a children's magazine

Quick tips for better time management
Are you a good time manager? If your answer is “no”, here are some tips on how to be a better time manager:
⒈Create a daily plan. Plan your day before it starts. The plan gives you a good description of how the day will go on. That way, you will be ready to deal with most of the things you meet.
⒉Focus. Are you multi-tasking so much that you're just not getting anything done? Only focus on what you're doing. You'll be more efficient that way.
⒊Stay away from your time wasters. What takes your time away from your work? QQ? Email checking? One thing you can do is make it hard to check them— remove them from your browser quick links.
⒋Don't take on more than you can deal with. For the distractions that come in when you're doing other things, give a firm no. Or do it later.
⒌Decide to be early. When you prepare to be on time, you'll either be on time or late. However, if you decide to be early, you'll most likely to be on time. For appointments, try to be early. For your deadlines, meet them earlier than required.
A. Learn to say “No”.
B. Most of the time you'll be late.
C. Great ways to know your time spent.
D. Cut off when you need to.
E. Stop checking them so often.
F. Your job for the day is to follow the plan as best as possible.
G. If so, focus on just one key task at one time

【題目】Have you ever picked a job based on the fact that you were good at it but later found it made you feel very uncomfortable over time?__________________________________________________________________. If you ignore your personality, it will get you a long-term hurt regardless of your skills or the job’s pay. There are several areas of your personality that you need to consider to help you find a good job. Here are a few of those main areas:
1) Do you prefer working alone or with other people?
There are isolating(孤立的)jobs that will drive an outgoing person crazy and also interactive jobs that will make a shy person uneasy. Most people are not extremes in either direction but do have a tendency that they prefer. There are also positions that are sometimes a combination of the two, which may be best for someone in the middle who adapts easily to either situation.
2) How do you handle change?
Most jobs these days have some elements of change to them, but some are more than others. If you need stability in your life, you may need a job where the changes don’t happen so often. Other people would be bored of the same daily routine.
3) Do you enjoy working with computers?
I do see this as a kind of personality characteristic. There are people who are happy to spend more than 40 hours a week on a computer, while there are others who need a lot of human interaction throughout the day. Again, these are extremes and you’ll likely find a lot of positions somewhere in the middle as well.
4) What type of work environment do you enjoy?
This can range from being in a large building with a lot of people you won’t know immediately to a smaller setting where you’ll get to know almost all the people there fairly quickly.
5) How do you like to get paid?
Some people are motivated by the pay they get, while others feel too stressed to be like that. The variety of payment designs in the sales industry is a typical example for this.
Anyway, these are a great starting point for you. I’ve seen it over and over again with people that they make more money over time when they do something they love. It may take you a little longer, but making a move to do what you have a passion for can change the course of your life for the better.

【2】Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A. Isolating jobs usually drive people mad.
B. Interactive jobs make people shy easily.

In order to increase their job chances after college, Chinese students are turning to a special practice—Eiffel Tower nose jobs (鼻整形手術(shù)). The latest trend in plastic surgery promises to create a nose that is similar to the curve of the Eiffel Tower.
Surgeon Wang Xuming said: “We are influenced by the beauty of the Eiffel Tower. We are not content to just add something to the nose; we reconstruct it.” The surgery costs about US$ 10,000 and involves the enlarging of the nose using tissue from the forehead.
Hundreds of posters advertising the procedure are put up all over Chongqing city, where surgeon Xuming runs his private practice. They show a western-looking woman with an almost-to o-perfect nose, against an outline of the Eiffel Tower.
Interestingly, many young women in China are eager to achieve a western appearance, as they believe it will give them an advantage in the highly competitive job market. “Some students face a lot of employment pressure after graduation. If their facial features are good, they’ll have more chances of finding a job,” said surgeon Xuming. “We’ve had students getting the Eiffel Tower nose; it’s helped them a lot.”
Apparently, Chinese employers are quite particular about appearances and prefer attractive candidates. Some of them even go as far as putting height and weight requirements in their employment ads. Plastic surgeons across the country are reporting an increase in the number of students choosing beaut “improvement”.
According to a Mr. Li, hospital manager at surgeon Xuming’s clinic, most of their customers are female and the bill is taken care of by the family. “They usually come in with their mothers, and tend to be from well-off backgrounds.” he said.
Personally, I don’t think it so important to “improve” our appearance as long as we are skilled at our jobs. We can’t decide how we look, but we can decide how well we live and work.
【1】Why do Chinese college students choose to have a nose operation?
A. To have more chances of getting a job.
B. To gain a real westerner appearance.
C. To Take good care of their family.
D. To look like the Eiffel Tower.
【2】What is mainly talked about in Paragraph 3?
A. The city of Chongqing.
B. A plastic surgery procedure.
C. The posters advertising the surgery.
D. Xuming’s private practice.
【3】What can we learn from Mr. Li’s words?
A. Most families can’t afford the expensive operation.
B. Their customers are usually from wealthy families.
C. Patients can be well looked after at the clinic.
D. The number of plastic surgeons is increasing.
【4】Which of the following will the author probably agree with?
A. Chinese employers only care about their employees’ appearance.
B. Chinese students are content with the shape of their noses.
C. A western face looks prettier than a Chinese one.
D. Skills at work speak louder than appearance.
