Dear Susan,

I'm very gladly to hear you are coming to visit me the next Friday. Unfortunately, I won't be able to meet you at the airport although I have classes in the afternoon. You won't find difficult to get to the city center. The airport bus leaves every 30 minute and will take you rightly to the Friendship Hotel. My classes will be over by then or I will pick you up there. I will take you together to a hot pot restaurant for dinner and we'll talk with our plan for the weekend over dinner. Having a pleasant trip and see you Friday.

Yours,

Zhang Ming

【1】gladly -- glad

【2】去掉the

【3】although --- because/as

【4】find difficult --- find it difficult

【5】minute --- minutes

【6】rightly --- right

【7】or ---and

【8】去掉together

【9】with ---about

【10】Having --- Have

【3】although --- because/as考查連詞。

【4】find difficult --- find it difficult考查代詞。

【7】or ---and考查連詞。

【9】with ---about考查介詞。

see you Friday是個祈使句,所以and應該是連接兩個句子,故把Having改為 Have ,構(gòu)成祈使句。

比如最后一句see you Friday是個祈使句,所以and應該是連接兩個句子,故把Having改為 Have ,構(gòu)成祈使句。

Research shows that the summer before college can be a dangerous time for teenagers, as they are between home and high school on the one side, and a more challenging and independent existence as a college student on the other.

Take drinking for example.Research has reported that teenagers tend to increase their alcohol use during the summer before college and in their first term.Such drinking can lead to tragedy: its estimated that more than 1,100 college students at 18 to 24 years of age die each year from alcohol-related injuries, including car crashes, and almost 600, 000 are injured under the influence of alcohol.

In addition to drinking, future freshmen may also have gaps in their knowledge about other aspects of university life.A study has found that students are generally aware of the fact that they have to place them into college courses and their schools curricular requirements. In addition, many students hold misunderstandings such as Getting into college is the hardest part, and “I can take whatever classes I want when I get to collegeIn fact, students courses may be determined by their level of preparation.

It is found that college-bound high-school graduates are faced with a number of potentially frightening tasks during the summer. For example, colleges typically require students to take placement tests(分班考試)and fill out a lot of paperwork, including housing and medical forms, over the summer.Completing these tasks may be especially frightening for low-income and first-generation college-bound students whose families may be short of experience with the college-going process.

In addition, its only in the summer after high-school graduation when students face the reality of paying the first college bill, which often includes unexpected costs like required health insurance. For college-intending students, successfully controlling the post-high-school summer thus requires a level of finance that may be unrelated to their ability to succeed in the classroom. As a result, students who have already broken through many barriers to college admission may fail to enter college.

Paring college-bound students with fellow advisers---students already in college who have been trained to support and coach their learners through the summer---improves the rate at which the learners show up at college.Even more wonderful, a low-cost campaign of text messages---in which researchers sent recent high-school graduates and their parents a series of eight to ten text-message reminders of key tasks to complete over the summer---is just as effective in increasing the rate of students who successfully make the change to college.

A little summer pushing could be a key step in getting students all the way across the finish line.

As Nicole and Mike Zupan get closer to retirement, they worry about more than just covering their own living expenses for the next several decades.

【1】 He is autistic(患自閉癥的) and may never be able to live on his own. Their idea of retirement is to live a quiet life close to their son. 2 They want to create a special needs trust to help pay for treatment and other expenses he might face as an adult.

“Because of our son’s needs, I guess I never really considered true retirement for us,” she says.

3 She is to attend college in a few years.

The Zupans’ ideal plan is for Mike, 60, to retire first, in five to seven years, and for Nicole, 52, to continue working for several years beyond that before she joins him in retirement.

But before they can get there, they want to pay off the $18,000 in credit card debt, partly because their son’s treatment is not covered by insurance. They have about $230,000 left on the mortgage(按揭) for their home in Fairfax County, Va., which they assess will take about 12 years to pay off. 4

Matters are complicated by the fact that Nicole, who worked as a preschool teacher, is now unemployed while she recovers from foot operation. 5 Mike’s $120,000 income, which he earns as a government clerk, is enough to cover their basic living expenses. But Nicole wants to get back to work so the family could afford more treatment for Josef and pay down their debt faster. They also would be able to save more for their long-term goals, including retirement, their daughter’s college tuition and their son’s future living expenses.

A. Besides they have a $14,000 loan they used on home improvements.

B. It’s unlikely that Josef will go to college.

C. They’re also trying to save for their 14-year-old daughter, Elshaday.

D. They want to set aside enough money for their 15-year-old son, Josef.

E. It could be a few weeks before she can return to the workforce.

F. Can their retirement savings cover them?

G. He may need to move into a group home when he gets older.

When e-mail first came into general use about twenty years ago, there was a lot of talk about the arrival of the paperless office. However, it seems that e-mail has yet to revolutionize office communication. According to communications analyst Richard Metcalf, some offices have actually seen an increase in paper as a result of e-mail. “Information in the form of e-mail messages now floods our computer screens. These messages can be sent so quickly that memos tend to be distributed in the hundreds. For those secretaries whose bosses ask them to print out all their e-mails and leave them in their in-trays, this means using up a great deal of paper every month,” Metcalf says.

Metcalf has found that because some e-mails get lost in cyberspace, important documents are increasingly likely to be asked by clients and colleagues to send all important documents both by e-mail and by fax. This highlights a further potential problem with e-mail in today’s offices it is taking up time rather than saving it. “With e-mail, communication is much easier, but there is also more room for misunderstandings,” says psychologist Dr David Lewis. Generally, much less care is taken with e-mails than with letters or faxes and the sender will probably print the document and reread it before putting it in an envelope or sending it by fax.

More worrying is still the increasing misuse of e-mail for sending “flame-mail” inappropriate e-mail messages. Recent research in several companies suggests that aggressive communications like this are on the increase. E-mail has become the perfect medium for conveying workplace dissatisfaction because it is so instant.

E-mail can also be a problem in other ways. Staffs all too often make the mistake of thinking that the contents of the e-mail, like things said over the phone, are private and not permanent. But it is not only possible for an employer to read all your e-mails, it is also perfectly legal. E-mail messages can be traced back to their origin for a period of at least two years, so you might want to rethink e-mailing your dissatisfaction about your boss to your friends. The advice is to keep personal e-mails out of the office.

(Note: Answer the questions or complete the statements in NO MORE THAN 12 WORDS)

【1】The promise of paperless office has not come true in many offices mainly because many secretaries are asked to _____________.

【2】Why has e-mailing taken up time rather than saved it?

【3】There is an increasing concern that e-mails are misused by some employees to express _____________.

【4】It is advised that employees should not use company e-mails as a way of ___________.

About five years ago, an American electrical engineer named Scott Brusaw and his wife Julie came up with the idea of putting solar panels (控制板) on the ground rather than the roof. Then they began to develop the Solar Roadway. The Solar Roadway is an intelligent road that provides clean renewable energy using power from the sun while providing safer driving conditions, along with power and data delivery. They predict that the Solar Roadway will pay for itself through the generation of electricity along with other forms of income and that the same money that is being used to build and resurface current roads can be used to build the Solar Roadways.

Each Solar Road Panel measures roughly 4 meters by 4 meters and contains a microprocessor (微處理器) that monitors and controls the panel, while communicating with neighboring panels and the vehicles traveling overhead. The inventors suggest that this provides a communications device every 4 meters on every road which could be used for example to warn drivers of cars which are moving across a centre line and various other speed control problems. The top of the Solar Road panels is made of super-strong glass that would offer vehicles the tractions (抓地力)____need.

According to the inventors, the Solar Roadway creates and carries clean renewable electricity and therefore electric vehicles can be recharged at any conveniently located rest stop, or at any business that has paved Solar Road Panels in their parking lots.

The inventors say their Solar Roadway has many functions and advantages from main roads to driveways, parking lots, bike paths, sidewalks and runways. The Federal Highway Administration has given Brusaw 100,000 to develop the invention and Brusaw hopes to build a smart-road parking lot in the coming spring .

1In the inventors’ opinion, the Solar Roadway ___________________________ .

A. is too expensive to build at present

B. costs no more money than current roads

C. can provide as many data as present computers

D. will bring them a large sum of money

2The underlined word “they” in Paragraph 2 refers to .

A. the panels B. the inventors

C. the researchers D. the vehicles

3It can be inferred from the text that ____________________________.

A. the Solar Roadway has already been put into use

B. 100,000 is only enough to build a smart-road parking lot

C. the Solar Roadway is not available for gas-powered cars

D. future electric vehicles can be charged anytime and anywhere

4What can be the best title for the text?

A. Solar-powered smart road of the future

B. The great changes on the roadway

C. The influence the Solar Roadway has on people

D. The Solar Road—a much faster road
