It wasn’t until nearly a month later ________ I received the manager’s reply.

A. sinceB. whenC. as D. that

強(qiáng)調(diào)句型的基本形式是“It is/was...that...”,對(duì)not... until...句式的強(qiáng)調(diào)有固定的結(jié)構(gòu),即“It was not(wasn’t) until...that...”。 I didn’t receive the manager’s reply until nearly a month later.

1.強(qiáng)調(diào)句型的基本結(jié)構(gòu)是:It is/was + 被強(qiáng)調(diào)部分 + that/who/whom + 句子未被強(qiáng)調(diào)部分.

該句型的最大特點(diǎn)是:去掉it is/was和引導(dǎo)詞that/who/whom之后剩下部分為完整的一個(gè)句子(有時(shí)候需要調(diào)整句序)。

如:I met him in the street yesterday.

強(qiáng)調(diào)主語(yǔ)I時(shí)改為:It was I who/that met him in the street yesterday.

強(qiáng)調(diào)賓語(yǔ)him時(shí)改為:It was him whom/that I met in the street yesterday.

強(qiáng)調(diào)地點(diǎn)狀語(yǔ)in the street時(shí),改為:It was in the street that I met him yesterday.

It was yesterday that I met him in the street.

以上句子如果去掉it was和引導(dǎo)詞that/who/whom外適當(dāng)調(diào)整句序后,都會(huì)還原成原句:I met him in the street yesterday.

2.而not...until... It is/was not until + 狀語(yǔ)/狀語(yǔ)從句 + that + 句子/主句的肯定句形式。

如:I didn't go to bed until my parents returned.

It was not until my parents returned that I went to bed.

再如:I didn't go to bed until 11:30 pm.

It was not until 11:30 pm that I went to bed.

I love camping. It’s my favorite way to spent the summer vacation. Last year, my family and me went camping in the countryside. It was one of the most excited experiences I had never had. We slept in a tent and went for a long walk every day. We cooked over a fire and the food always tasted wonderfully. For a whole week, I appreciated lovely mountain views or breathed fresh air. At the night, I heard the gentle wind blowing in the tree, and I felt so peaceful. It doesn’t cost many to camp. I believe it’s the best way to get close nature and enjoy its beauty.

Two of the saddest words in the English language are “if only”. I live my life with the goal of never having to say those words, because they convey regret, lost opportunities, mistakes, and disappointment.

My father is famous in our family for saying, “Take the extra minute to do it right.” I always try to live by the “extra minute” rule. When my children were young and likely to cause accidents, I always thought about what I could do to avoid an “if only” moment, whether it was something minor like moving a cup full of hot coffee away from the edge of a counter, or something that required a little more work such as taping padding (襯墊) onto the sharp corners of a glass coffee table.

I don’t only avoid those “if only” moments when it comes to safety. It’s equally important to avoid “if only” in our personal relationships. We all know people who lost a loved one and regretted that they had foregone an opportunity to say “I love you” or “I forgive you.” When my father announced he was going to the eye doctor across from my office on Good Friday, I told him that it was a holiday for my company and I wouldn’t be here. But then I thought about the fact that he’s 84 years old and I realized that I shouldn’t give up an opportunity to see him. I called him and told him I had decided to go to work on my day off after all.

I know there will still be occasions when I have to say “if only” about something, but my life is definitely better because of my policy of doing everything possible to avoid that eventuality. And even though it takes an extra minute to do something right, or it occasionally takes an hour or two in my busy schedule to make a personal connection, I know that I’m doing the right thing. I’m buying myself peace of mind and that’s the best kind of insurance for my emotional well-being.

【1】Which of the following is an example of the “extra minute” rule?

A. Start the car the moment everyone is seated.

B. Leave the room for a minute with the iron working.

C. Wait for an extra minute so that the steak tastes better.

D. Move an object out of the way before it trips (絆倒) someone.

2The author decided to go to her office on Good Friday to ______.

A. keep her appointment with the eye doctor

B. meet her father who was already an old man

C. join in the holiday celebration of the company

D. finish her work before the deadline approached

3What is the best title for the passage?

A. The Emotional Well-being.

B. The Two Saddest Words.

C. The Most Useful Rule.

D. The Peace of Mind.

A new camera made by a company named Netatmo has facial recognition software(識(shí)別系統(tǒng))that can tell parents at work that their children have returned from school, or that a package has been taken to their home. It can also tell them if a stranger has entered their home.

Janina Mattausch is a product marketing manager for Netatmo.

The common security(安全)cameras at present are not that smart. So, they can tell you if something is moving but they don’t necessarily know if it’s a human being or, ah, if its your kidsthey don’t’ know the difference, so they will warn you all the time.

When family members enter a home, the new camera "recognizes" (識(shí)別 ) them and sends information to the owner's smartphone. The owner can choose to see the video then or later. But if an unknown person enters a home, the camera will send the owner a warning that will cause an alarm to sound on the owner's smartphone.

That is what happened recently to a smart home camera owner named Darrmen. He lives in Paris.

"On a Friday I was at work, attending a big monthly meeting when my phone warned. At first I told myself 'Oh, it must be a mistake, maybe I have to set the system again. “But the notice on my phone was telling me that there was a movement in my flat and also a face that the software did not recognize.”

He watched the video and was very surprised by what he saw.

"I saw a person I did not know with his shoes on. I was watching it live on video. So I felt totally unbelievable, frozen. I asked a workmate to take me back home as fast as possible and I called the police on the way. "

With the help of the video, the police found the intruder (闖入者) later that day.
