科目:高中英語 來源:2015-2016學年河北邢臺一中高一下期第一次月考英語試卷(解析版) 題型:閱讀理解

A food additive (添加劑) is any substance that is added to food. Many people are put off by the idea of “chemicals in food.” The truth is that all food is made up of chemicals. Natural substances like milk, as well as man-made ones like drinks on sale in the market, can be described by chemical formulas. Some chemical substances are indeed harmful, but a person who refused to consume any chemicals would find nothing to eat.

The things we eat can be divided into natural and man-made substances. Some people feel that only natural foods are healthy and that all man-made ingredients are to be avoided. But many natural chemicals, found in plants and animals, are harmful when eaten, and some laboratory-made substances increase the nutritional value of food. Other chemicals have natural and man-made forms that are exactly alike: vitamin C is vitamin C, whether it comes from a test tube or from an orange. Like “chemical”, “man-made” doesn’t necessarily mean “not fit to eat”.

Food additives are used for many reasons. We add sugar and salt and other things to foods we prepare at home to make them taste better. Food producers have developed a range of additives that stabilize(使穩(wěn)定), thicken, harden, keep wet, keep firm, or improve the appearance of their products. Additives can make food more convenient or nutritious, give it a longer shelf life, and make it more attractive to the consumer, thus increasing the sales and profits of the producers.

Food additives are presently the centre of a storm of serious argument. Food producers have been known to use additives that have not been proved safe; some substances in common use have been proved unsafe and have been taken off the market. Many people feel there’s a risk of eating food to which anything has been added. But food additives are now regulated by the FDA of the federal government, and new additives will go through strict testing before they can be placed on the market. For most people, the chances of developing serious side effects (副作用) from the long-term use of presently approved (批準) food additives are very small.

1.From the passage we can learn that .

A. natural foods are much safer than man-made ones

B. it is right to refuse chemicals in food

C. food additives are harmful to our health

D. all foods have chemical substances

2.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?

A. Food additives can improve the quality of foods in many ways.

B. To ensure food safety, the FDA will stop food additives.

C. Foods free of additives can keep a much longer shelf life.

D. Foods with more additives have higher nutritional value.

3.We can infer from the regulation to the food additives by the FDA that .

A. new additives will be approved more easily than before

B. food with common-used additives will be taken off the market

C. food additives will be used in a safer and more scientific way

D. food producers won’t be allowed to use new food additives

4.According to the writer, the food additive is .

A. worrying B. acceptable

C. poisonous D. avoidable

Taking exams in a large group setting can be stressful for students and for the staff members who are watching over them.

When classrooms are crowded and desks are close together, cheating might be tempting.

One university in Thailand came up with an anti-cheating hat that makes it almost impossible for students to see other students’ papers. A photo of the students wearing the anti-cheating hats made its way to the Internet, and the university was criticized for making students wear those ridiculous looking homemade hats. The hats were made by stapling pieces of paper onto a headband, one to each side of the head.

After being criticized, senior academic staff at Kasetsart University in Bangkok, Thailand, released a statement saying that the hats idea came from students. They said that in a bid to prevent cheating they asked the students for ideas on how to prevent cheating in the upcoming exam, which was being taken by almost one hundred students. Students came up with different ideas, then the paper hat idea was selected by them as the most suitable.

The university claimed that no one was forced to use the hat, but they all chose to do so.“When wearing the hat during the exam, students felt more relaxed, ”Nattadon Rungruangkitkrai, a lecturer at the university said.“It was not meant to indicate that Kasetsart students often cheat on exams. 科目:高中英語 來源:2015-2016學年湖南益陽箴言中學高一下學期3月考英語試卷(解析版) 題型:閱讀理解

There are four main areas when it comes to your dog’s body language — his ears and face, eyes, nose and tail. If you pay attention to those things, you’ll find you are able to easily understand how your dog is feeling.

Ears and face

The head of a dog is more expressive than you think. If you say a word that he recognizes, like his name or something you say often, his ears will get up. His mouth is another good instruction. A mouth that is wide open to pant (喘氣) with some sound suggests that the dog is happy — some people even say when a dog is panting, he is laughing as he cools himself. A tongue sticking out suggests that the dog is in a good mood.

Eyes

To a dog, purple and blue are both seen as shades of blue. Red is seen as black or dark grey. Orange, yellow and green are seen as various shades of yellow. This means that, to a dog, bright orange toys are the same yellow shade. If you want your dog to clearly see his toys in the green grass you’d better give the dog blue toys; if you have orange, yellow or green toys, the dog will be able to find them with his nose.

Nose

A dog can both sniff and breathe through his nose. Breathing is for air, but when dogs sniff with short breaths they are actually following some scents (氣味) with his keen (靈敏的) nose. When a dog is overheated, his sense of smell is reduced by as much as 40 percent and he uses the air to cool himself rather than for smelling. Puppies’ noses can help find their mother when their eyes and ears are closed. The function will disappear by the time they are adults.

Tail

Lastly, you need to pay attention to your dog’s tail, because it shows what he is thinking and feeling. A dog that is in a good mood will have a tail that seems to be going a mile a minute — wagging, and excited. However, an angry or frightened dog will have his tail between his legs.

1.The author’s purpose in writing the first paragraph is to _____.

A. advise you to look after your dog

B. introduce the topic of the passage

C. explain what is body language

D. call on anyone to protect dogs

2.When your dog feels happy, he will _____.

a. keep his mouth wide open soundlessly

b. bark all the time in front of you

c. open his mouth to breathe with some sound

d. keep his tongue sticking out

A. a, b B. c, d C. a, d D. b, c

3.Why does your dog use his nose when looking for orange, yellow or green toys in the grass?

A. Because he wants to show how keen his nose is.

B. Because his nose is keener than his eyes in the open air.

C. Because he can’t tell the difference between toys and grass.

D. Because these colors are all shades of yellow in his eyes.

4. Which of the following is TRUE according to the last two parts “Nose” and “Tail”?

A. Adult dogs can’t use their nose to find their mothers.

B. When a dog feels too hot, he will lose his sense of smell.

C. Dogs often sniff with short breaths when they feel sad.

D. A dog’s tail can’t show his feelings unless he is frightened.
