Six things we’ll regret in 10 years

Time slips away in life, and behind all those things we are busying doing all day long, we often miss the most important things. 1. In the following passage there are 6 things we are likely to regret in the future, as well as pieces of advice on how to avoid it.

Spent little time with family

In the cycle of work and home duties, many of us pay very little attention to our families. Unfortunately, we often understand this when some of them are not there around us.

2

We ruin our health when we give in to junk food and bad habits. Even our health seems to be ok now; after a while we will most likely feel the consequences of such an irresponsible attitude to our body.

Spent little time traveling

3. But we are always afraid of discomfort, we are afraid of being in strange places, and we always have more urgent things to do.

Worked too much

Most people do so because they want to earn more or they desire a higher position. However, it’s clear that work is important, but to relax from time to time is of importance too.

Stopped learning new things

Maybe you Mom always says this to you, “Learn a foreign language. You will need it in the future.” You may think you want to be an engineer, so a foreign language seems useless.4.

Had a job you hate

We often continue to work in a place we hate, only because we are unwilling to leave the comfort comfort zone.5, we can simply fade away in a job we are not interested in.

So when the sun is warm,

when the breeze is gentle,

when the flowers are flourishing,

when you are young,

live the way you like, enjoy the time you are studying or working, and try to be the best of you!

A. Few of us don’t dream about traveling

B. However, constant learning brings not only more opportunities for professional growth but also an increase in self-confidence, making you an interesting person to others

C. Yet if we don’t change the situation

D. It may take years to understand this.

E. Led an unhealthy life

F. The desire to travel with comfort stop people from doing this very often

G. True, it’s good if you know even one foreign language

承接上文,D項(xiàng) It may take years to understand this.(要理解這一點(diǎn)可能需要很多年。)

We ruin our health when we give in to junk food and bad habits.(當(dāng)我們屈服于垃圾食品和壞習(xí)慣時,我們破壞了我們的健康。)由此可知,E項(xiàng) Led an unhealthy life(過著不健康的生活)切題。

承接下文,A項(xiàng)Few of us don’t dream about traveling(我們中很少有人不夢想旅行)切題。

承接上文,B項(xiàng)However, constant learning brings not only more opportunities for professional growth but also an increase in self-confidence, making you an interesting person to others(然而,不斷的學(xué)習(xí)不僅帶來了更多的職業(yè)發(fā)展的機(jī)會,也增加了自信,使你成為一個對別人有趣的人。)

Yet if we don’t change the situation”( 但如果我們不改變現(xiàn)狀)切題。故選C。

Nowadays, the great number of people, especially young people, like ordering meals online. It’s not surprised. First, as the pace of modern life is becoming faster and faster, people had less time to cook even one meal for themselves. Second, the development of technology brings us smart phones and new apps, what may lead to the increase in online service. However, we should pay more attention to food. As we all know it, our health is closely related to what we eat. Although the service provides us convenience, we must take the food safety into considerate. Home-made food is cleaner and healthy, but I prefer to cook food at home rather than ordering meals online.

A recent study surveyed 5,000 British families about their experiences with volunteering and their mental health. Participants completed the same survey every two years from 1996 to 2008.

About 20 percent of the survey participants reported doing regular unpaid work Researchers found that these volunteers also scored highest on their mental health scores. The two were linked so directly that the more a person volunteered, the happier they were.

One could argue a chicken-and-egg theory: happier people are more likely to have the time, money, energy and resources to give back to others. But even when researchers adjusted for education, social class and total health, the link was there, suggesting that the mental increase came from volunteering and not the other way around.

According to Dr. Stephen G. Post, author of The Hidden Gifts of Helping, when you help others, your brain releases feel-good chemicals, which can help cells repair themselves and grow. And this translates to better health.

So volunteering can help improve both your physical and mental health—on one condition. You have to mean it. People who volunteered for "self-oriental" reasons, either because they were forced to do so for work or school or because they were trying to get away from problems in their lives, had a mortality(死亡率)risk that was similar to those who didn't volunteer at all. It was only when people were volunteering out of a true sense of sympathy that they saw any health benefits.

So whether it's arranging books at the library or walking dogs at the animal shelter, find a cause that's important to you and give it a try. Volunteering is a good way to develop a sense of connection that not only helps your community, but may also be good for you.

1Who are healthier according to the study?

A. people who are happier.

B. people who are good at taking exams.

C. people that work as volunteers regularly.

D. people that make a large amount of money.

2Why does the author mention the chicken-and-egg theory?

A. To introduce a world-famous theory.

B. To point out that volunteering came first.

C. To prove happy ones would like to help others.

D. To tell us that the cause and the effect are mixed.

3What may be one of the "self-oriented" reasons?

A. You try your best to solve others' problems.

B. You are filled with pity for the foster kids.

C. You have the duty to look after the old.

D. You're always willing to help others.

4What is the text mainly about?

A. A chicken-and-egg theory.

B. Happiness has a lot to do with health.

C. A sense of connection is important to us.

D. Volunteering willingly is good for health.
