【題目】 I was 11 years old when I asked my mom for piano lessons in 2010.We were in financial trouble,so she said politely,"Sorry, son, but we can't now.”
I googled the measurements for a keyboard, drew the keys on a piece of paper and stuck it on my desk.I would click notes on an online keyboard and"play"them back on my paper one-keeping the sound they made on the computer in my head.I spent 6 months playing without touching a real piano.Once my mom saw that I was serious, she borrowed money and bought me 10 lessons.
I still remember the first one.I was struck by how real the sound of the piano was.I sat my Grade 1 after 8 lessons.Once I started secondary school,we couldn't afford lessons again.I passed Grade 3,and then Grade 5,practicing only on my piece of paper. One evening, when I was about 13,my mom said she had a surprise for me-it was an electronic keyboard, bought with more borrowed money. It was the first time that I'd played for her and she was in shock.
My school didn't offer music A-level.I found the Purcell School for young musicians, but the tryouts were difficult. Some of the questions even involved an evaluation of the composer.I was at a loss. But to my amazement,I was offered a place. At Purcell,I spent 2 years working as hard as I could.I performed to raise money and saved enough to buy my first piano. When I left Purcell,I was awarded the senior piano prize and academic music prize.I'm now at the Guildhall School in London.I feel proud-it's been 10 years since I drew my paper piano, and I'm at one of the world's leading music schools.
Surprisingly,I continue to do a lot of my practice away from the piano:what we call mental practice. The paper piano helped motivate my curiosity about how music works.
【1】Why did the mother buy the author piano lessons?
A.She believed he had a talent for piano.

【解析】
這是一篇記敘文。講述了盡管家庭窘迫,我依舊下定決心紙上練琴最終獲得成功的歷程。
【1】細(xì)節(jié)理解題。由文中第二段“I spent 6 months playing without touching a real piano. Once my mom saw that I was serious, she borrowed money and bought me 10 lessons”可知,在沒有琴的情況下,我在紙上練琴六個月。媽媽得知我是真的想學(xué)鋼琴,借錢給我買了10節(jié)課程。所以媽媽給我買鋼琴課是因為看到我迫切想學(xué)琴。故選B項。
【2】判斷推理題。由第二段“I googled the measurements for a keyboard, drew the keys on a piece of paper and stuck it on my desk. I would click notes on an online keyboard and "play" them back on my paper one-keeping the sound they made on the computer in my head. I spent 6 months playing without touching a real piano” 我在紙上畫琴,在沒有條件觸摸真琴的情況下堅持練琴六個月。以及第四段“At Purcell, I spent 2 years working as hard as I could. I performed to raise money and saved enough to buy my first piano. When I left Purcell, I was awarded the senior piano prize and academic music prize. I'm now at the Guildhall School in London. I feel proud-it's been 10 years since I drew my paper piano ,and I'm at one of the world's leading music schools.”

【題目】 As anyone who freelances (做自由職業(yè)) knows, there are lots of advantages of working at home alone. But there are drawbacks too, like the potential loneliness. No wonder coworking spaces are becoming so popular:they permit selfemployed individuals to feel like they are part of all office environment, while making them get some work done too. But renting a coworking space does cost money.
Now a Swedish project is aiming to change that by turning people’s underused homes into temporary coworking spaces, available to freelancers for free. Hoffice was started by freelancers Christofer Gradin Franzen and Johline Zandra about a year ago in Stockholm when they invited a few people into their home office to work together. It was a great success, and the project has since spread to a number of cities in Europe,North and South America,Australia,India and Japan. Anyone can sign up and offer their home space as a free coworking space,or go to find a Hoffice near them.
On a Hoffice day, everyone arrives and starts work at a certain hour. After 45 minutes, everyone gets up to take a break, stretch,do qigong or yoga for 10 to 15 minutes. Afterwards, people can gather around again, and restate their intentions and goals for the rest of the work day,as a way to motivate each other. Meals can be eaten together at a certain hour, potluckstyle (家常飯) or by bringing your own lunch.
This process creates an encouraging and supportive work environment. As some freelancers describe,“By working at Hoffice,we give ourselves and each other the gift to spend our days in a social working environment, where we are extremely productive without ignoring our other human needs. We also make sure to give us and each other what we need to feel calm, happy, inspired and creative during the working day.”
So Hoffice is not just about sharing space;it’s also about a free exchange of ideas. And perhaps the best thing is that Hoffices are free to use.

Bales left the pavement of Base Road and stepped onto snow-covered Jewell Trail. She planned a six-hour hike through New Hampshire’s Mount Washington State Park. She had packed for almost every emergency and intended to walk alone.
She’d checked the weather forecast posted by the Mount Washington Observatory before she left. Based on her experience, Bales knew that her hike was realistic. Besides, she had two emergency plans and extra layers of clothing to better adjust her body temperature as conditions changed.
The hike up the lower part of Jewell Trail was pleasant. Bales felt excited as she walked up into snowy paths. The sun shone through the trees and cast a shadow over her smiling face. Less than an hour later, loads of dark clouds had replaced the sunshine, and snow covered the surrounding trees.
She still smiled. However, the weather was showing its teeth. Bales added even more layers to shelter herself from the cold winds and thick fog. She made her way across the snow-covered ridge (山脊toward Mount Washington and began to think about calling it a day. Suddenly, she noticed something: a single set of footprints in the snow ahead of her, which had been made by a pair of sneakers-typically not the type for hiking.
Meanwhile, Bales was getting colder, even though she was moving fast and generating some body heat. With strong gusts of wind screaming and attacking her back and left side, she decided to abandon her plan. The only thing, however, kept her on the trail was the sneaker tracks in the snow.

Bales faced a dilemma about whether to follow the tracks or not.
