On 23 June 2016, UK (United Kingdom) adults made a historic decision. More than 33 million people voted for the UK to leave the European Union (EU). In the referendum, the result was that around 52% of them—just over half—voted to leave the group of 28 countries. This is called Brexit made up to describe the “British Exit”. No country had ever left the EU before, so Brexit was a significant moment in European history.
After UK and EU leaders had lots of hard negotiations about how Brexit would work, on 22nd, January, 2020, Wednesday, the British Parliament finally approved an agreement about the UK’s divorcing the EU, which Queen Elizabeth II agreed to on Thursday. The deal was expected to pass in the European Parliament the next week. If everything went well, the UK would leave the EU on January 31, 2020. It did! The UK finally and officially left the EU at 11 pm on this day, ending a process that began three and a half years before. Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Brexit fans celebrated with fireworks and big parties. For many they called it the UK’s Independence Day. For many others in the UK, it represented the final stage of something they fought hard to prevent. Now the deal has been signed and Britain has left, but it doesn’t mean the life in Britain will change suddenly. Until 31st December 2020, freedom of movement will continue and this means UK citizens will have the right to live and work in the EU.
Making things even more difficult is the fact that the next challenge of Brexit has arrived. The UK and EU now have almost one year to work out the details of the relationship they will have in the future. Many experts express their common concern that making these new agreements will go through the same experience as the original Brexit deal.

After UK and EU leaders had lots of hard negotiations about how Brexit would work, on 22nd, January, 2020, Wednesday, the British Parliament finally approved an agreement about the UK’s divorcing the EU, which Queen Elizabeth II agreed to on Thursday. 再結(jié)合“If everything went well, the UK would leave the EU on January 31, 2020(如果一切順利,英國將于2020年1月31日脫離歐盟。)”
文中有“After UK and EU leaders had lots of hard negotiations about... ”;“the British Parliament finally approved... ”;“The UK finally and officially left the EU. .. 故選A。

【題目】 “You totally missed out!” This sentence strikes fear in the hearts of teenagers more than almost anything else. In fact, missing out on something bothers most teenagers so much that there is even a special word for that sick feeling: FOMO. 【1】 FOMO, which was added to the Oxford English Dictionary in 2013, refers to that anxious feeling people get when they realize they are not attending a social event.
【2】 In fact, one survey found that two-thirds of people in this age group admitted to experiencing FOMO regularly. If you ask teenagers whether they experience social media anxiety, most would answer no. But what they do not realize is that if they are stressed or worried about what they see online, then they are possibly experiencing FOMO, especially if they are online a lot.
Then how to handle the problem of FOMO? Of course, turning off the technology seems like a natural cure for FOMO. 【3】 Teenagers may still worry that they are missing out, even if they are not on social media at all.
The key is to turn off the technology and do something else like reading a book, giving a friend a makeup, baking cookies—anything that allows them to focus on something other than social media. 【4】
It is also important to encourage teenagers to recognize that they cannot possibly be everywhere and do everything. So, naturally, there will be parties or events that they cannot attend. 【5】 Photos can be deceiving (騙人的). And even though it looks as if their friends are having a good time, this may not be the case. They should never let the fact that they couldn’t be somewhere affect their view of themselves.
A. FOMO has become an even bigger problem.
B. FOMO is especially common to people aged 18 to 33.
C. In simple terms, FOMO stands for “fear of missing out”.
D. It can be extremely helpful in changing their attitudes towards life.
E. But this does not necessarily mean they are missing out on something.
F. By doing this, teenagers are not glued to their screens and are more active.
G. But just switching the phone to “off” doesn’t erase the feelings caused by FOMO.

Imagine yourself on a boat looking out at the horizon and all you can see is the water meeting the sky with no land in sight and you are sailing straight ahead to meet the world. Jesse Martin does not have to imagine: he is living in it.
On Dec. 7, 1998, at 17 years old, Jesse set sail from Melbourne, Australia on his boat, attempting to become the youngest person to sail alone and nonstop around the world. He sailed south of New Zealand, through the South Pacific, around South America, north on the Atlantic, back south past Africa, through the Indian Ocean and back to Melbourne. Even as a young child, Jesse had been an adventurer who traveled all over Europe and Asia with his parents. Born in Munich, Germany in 1981, he moved to Australia with his family when he was only two years old. They moved close to a rainforest in Cow Bay, about 3,500kms north of Melbourne, where they built a small house with no electricity or running water. Jesse grew up at the beach enjoying the outdoors to its fullest. At 14, he sailed for the first time with his father and brother, Beau. It was after this trip that he began to dream about sailing around the world.
Jesse’s family played an important role. “I was made to believe I could do anything, although there were others that were not so encouraging or supportive” he says. “People that I looked up to, respected and trusted told me I couldn’t. Thankfully, I trusted myself. There were people that said that the boat couldn’t be ready by the time I had to leave.” However, through perseverance(堅(jiān)持不懈) and belief in himself, he was able to do what many told him was impossible.
On Oct.31, 1999, more than 10 months after he set sail, Jesse Martin went down in history as the youngest person to sail around the world alone, nonstop and unassisted.
【1】By encouraging readers to imagine a sailing experience, the author wants to __________.
