Imagine a small group of people with a shared passion for the same craft. They all have different skills and approaches, but they come together to share skills, share stories, and share in the joy of making something.

Modern maker culture is filling headlines and lab spaces all over the world. The way makers communicate with each other has changed over time. In the past, skills mainly came from personal sit-downs with members of the group. But sometimes a teacher wasn’t available, or the one available didn' t know how to do the skill others wanted to learn.

Today a teacher doesn' t even have to be in the same country or occupy the same decade as the students. Thanks to the work of people who take the time to break down and share the details of their craft, an interested individual can learn anything. Guides may range from videos to diagrams and text. Regardless of the media, maker resources are meant to be shared.

One of the features of the maker movement is the crossover between different interests. Perhaps a passion for cars and for leathercraft can result in a truly custom interior (定制的內(nèi)飾). Perhaps a love of knitting (編織)and robotics will result in a tiny ——but very mobile ——robotic furry cat.

And once you have started your creation, finding a community to share with is no longer limited to the people nearby. Modern makers have been sharing videos of their progress online for years, contributing greatly to the rapid spread of the maker movement. As different as the participants might be, they share enthusiasm, support, and a willingness to try.

Imagine making a ping-pong table together with your makers' team. One group builds the basic frame. Another group takes on the responsibility of painting. You knit the net. There is joy in just giving it a try. It will remind you of childhood creations. Whether you are an experienced programmer or just picking up a hammer for the first time, it is never a bad time to come up with an idea, try something, and share the results.

In the past, skills mainly came from personal sit-downs with members of the group.(在過去,技能主要來自與團隊成員的私下商討。) 故選A

a passion for cars and for leathercraft對應(yīng)的是將前兩者結(jié)合的truly custom interior(定制的內(nèi)飾); a love of knitting (編織) and robotic對應(yīng)的是將前兩者結(jié)合的 robotic furry cat。

Modern makers have been sharing videos of their progress online for years, contributing greatly to the rapid spread of the maker movement.(現(xiàn)代的創(chuàng)客們多年來一直在網(wǎng)上分享他們的進(jìn)步視頻,為創(chuàng)客運動的迅速傳播做出了巨大貢獻(xiàn)。) 故選A。

根據(jù)最后一段的 it is never a bad time to come up with an idea, try something, and share the results(想出一個點子,嘗試一些事情,并分享結(jié)果,從來都不是糟糕的時候)可推知,作者提及制作乒乓球桌是為了鼓勵讀者參加創(chuàng)客運動,動手制作東西。

How did makers communicate with each other in the past? In the past, skills mainly came from personal sit-downs with members of the group.

Directions: Read the following passage. Summarize the main idea and the main point(s) of the passage in no more than 60 words, Use your own words as far as possible.

If someone you know asks you nosy (愛管閑事的) questions, then you are not obliged to answer if you don’t want to. Here it is more important that you have some polite brush-off (拒絕), but it is still not rude for you to refuse.

If you think they shouldn’t have asked the question like ‘How much money do you earn?’, then I strongly recommend looking very shocked and saying ‘I can’t believe you just asked me that!’ and either leaving them to get out of it or moving on yourself to another subject. If they try to press you by saying ‘I was just interested…’. Then you can keep the shocked look and say ‘I’ m not telling you that with as much emphasis as you like on the ‘you’.

But what if the question isn’t quite so unforgivable? Then you need a more smiling response: ‘I can’t possibly tell you that’ or ‘I’m not telling anyone that’ or ‘Wouldn’t you like to know?’ But you must stand firm, because otherwise they’ll never learn and will keep expecting you to tell them your innermost secrets. There is certainly never any need to tell your secrets just because someone else told theirs.

There are questions that seem perfectly reasonable- ‘Are you planning to move?’, ‘Are you going to go back to work?’, ‘Are you going on holiday this year?’-but if answered truthfully might lead to unexpected revelations of something bad. Here you are free to tell white lies and say ‘We don’t know/ haven’t decided yet/ haven’t really thought about it’. Looking vague and changing the subject is the key here. If the question was reasonable, then it’s polite to embarrass the asker as little as possible-they were probably only making conversation in the first place.
