【題目】While astronauts in space get to do many exciting things, they miss out on ordinary things that we all take for granted—being able to walk on firm ground, hanging out with family and digging into a slice of hot steaming pizzaThough not much can be done about the first two thingsthere may soon be a solution to the third one, thanks to this cool 3-D pizza printer

About a year ago,NASA offered $125 ,000 to Anjan Contractora 3-D technology expert,to build a device(設(shè)備)that would allow astronauts to make pizza on demandThe mechanical engineer promised that his invention would produce pies in large quantities that lookedtasted and even smelled like pizza made in common ovens

Late last year, the engineer presented a video of his first prototype(原型)that begins by creating a single slice of dough(面團(tuán))that is cooked and printed at the same timeThen comes the tomato “sauce” — a mix of tomato powder, oil and water and finally,a protein slice that resembles cheeseWhile the video doesn’t show the baking process, the inventor says that once the pizza is printedit can be ready to be consumed in 7 seconds

While the pie in the video looks delicious enough to attract any pizza lover,Anjan Contractor is far from ready for astronautsThat’s because he still has to find a solution to make the food container in the printer last for 30 yearsThough that may sound unrealistic, actually it is not

Anjan Contractor believes that the only way that is possible is that the water is removed from all the ingredients(配料)and then they are reduced to the powder formThis,as you can imagine, will not be so easyButwhile the printer may not be ready for space,it certainly looks ready enough for people on earthHopefullyNASA and Contractor will consider selling it to those not fortunate enough to go to Mars!

1Why does the author mention the things that astronauts in space cannot do

A. To ask us not to take common things for granted

B. To show they live a difficult life there

C. To show their life is boring in space

D. To introduce the topic of the text

2NASA offered $ 125,000 to Anjan Contractor mainly to _______

A. create some new type of 3-D printer

B. attract more companies to work for NASA

C. help astronauts in space enjoy fresh pizza one day

D. produce pizza in large quantities to earn great profits

3The biggest challenge that Anjan Contractor is faced with now is probably that _______

A. he has no money left to go on with his research

B. the pizza doesn’t seem appetizing to pizza lovers

C. he has no way to make pizza that can last for thirty years

D. he cannot make the food container last for decades

4What’s the best title of the passage?

A. NASA is trying its best to help astronauts eat better

B. Astronauts may soon be able to enjoy steaming hot pizza

C. NASA is working on making pizza for common people

D. A 3-D pizza printer has been used to make pizza

The freezing Northeast hasn’t been a terribly fun place to spend time this winter, so when the chance came for a weekend to Sarasota, Florida, my bags were packed before you could say “sunshine”. I left for the land of warmth and vitamin C(維生素C), thinking of beaches and orange trees. When we touched down to blue skies and warm air, I sent up a small prayer of gratefulness. Swimming pools, wine tasting, and pink sunsets(at normal evening hours, not 4 in the afternoon) filled the weekend, but the best part- particularly to my taste, dulled by months of cold- weather root vegetables- was a 7 a.m. adventure to the Sarasota farmers’ market that proved to be more than worth the early wake-up call.

The market, which was founded in 1979, sets up its tents every Saturday from 7:00 am to 1 p.m, rain or shine, along North Lemon and State streets. Baskets of perfect red strawberries, the red-painted sides of the Java Dawg coffee truck; and most of all, the tomatoes: amazing, large, soft and round red tomatoes.

Disappointed by many a broken, vine-ripened(蔓上成熟的) promise, I’ve refused to buy winter tomatoes for years. No matter how attractive they look in the store, once I get them home they’re unfailingly dry, hard, and tasteless. But I homed in, with uncertainty, on one particular table at the Brown’s Grove Farm’s stand, full of fresh and soft tomatoes the size of my fist. These were the real deal- and at that moment, I realized that the best part of Sarasota in winter was going to be eating things that back home in New York I wouldn’t be experiencing again for months.

Delighted as I was by the tomatoes in sight, my happiness deepened when I learned that Brown’s Grove Farm is one of the suppliers for Jack Dusty, a newly opened restaurant at the Sarasota Ritz Carlton, where- luckily for me- I was planning to have dinner that very night. Without even seeing the menu, I knew I’d be ordering every tomato on it.

1What did the author think of her winter life in New York?

A. Exciting. B. Boring.

C. Relaxing. D. Annoying.

2What made the author’s getting up late early worthwhile?

A. Having a swim.

B. Breathing in fresh air.

C. Walking in the morning sun.

D. Visiting a local farmer’s market.

3What can we learn about tomatoes sold in New York in winter?

A. They are soft. B. They look nice.

C. They taste great D. They are juicy.

4What was the author going to that evening?

A. Go to a farm. B. Check into a hotel.

C. Eat in a restaurant. D. Buy fresh vegatables.

I just come back from Britain last week. I was luckily enough to be one of the student from different countries to visit the UK from Feb.16 to 28. We paid a visit to many places, like London, Oxford or the Lake District. I learned much about British culture and history in London, where was my favorite. I also liked Oxford, in which I saw much more old buildings. The Lake District was beautiful, but it was pity that it rained heavily when they were there. The most excited thing for me in the Britain was that I made a lot of friends there.

Nowadays Grade 3 students are general faced with a lot of pressure, which is rather common. To reduce it, the followed suggestions may help. First of all, know exactly what lead to your pressure, then you can take measures to deal with it. Secondly, set up a goal what is not too high, in another words, don’t put too much pressure on yourself. Thirdly, find a way to relax you occasionally. Dear Applicant, A

We regret to inform you that your application to the stated establishment cannot be processed at this time due to the fact that it does not exist.

After consultation with out mythical advisors we have also determined that even if it didn’t exist, the course “wandology” would be highly in demand and hence require at least two As and a B in any of the following subjects:

Advanced Spellcrafting

Mystimatics

Defence Against The Dark Arts

History of the Occult

Shaft Design

Your hand written grade sheet claiming top marks in “waving a stick about”, waving a pointy hat” and “watching Paul Daniels TV specials” sadly is not suitable for submission, however by applying through clearing you may be suitable of Liberal Arts courses.
