How to Improve Eyesight Naturally

Eyes are important for everybody. You must take care and try everything in hand to keep them in good condition. Here are some tips to improve your eyesight naturally.

【1】 Strain is known to be a factor in many health conditions and eye strain is no exception. Try meditation, yoga or other methods of stress relief to improve your vision and overall health.

Try palming.

Sit upright in a comfortable chair. 【2】 Cup your hands so that there is no pressure on your eyes. Let your fingers rest across your forehead. There should be no light entering your eyes. Palming should be done for a period of 5 to 10 minutes to start. Palming should be relaxing. It may help to do palming in a darkened room.

Avoid sugar as much as possible.

【3】 It will unpleasantly affect your eyesight, which affects the eyes by producing a larger amount of insulin (胰島素) in the blood. Therefore you shouldn't be having much fruit juice or something that contains a lot of sugar.

Exercise your eyes.

The only exercise most eyes get is daily rubbing when we're tired or suffering from eye strain. But eye exercise is actually good for your eyes and can improve your vision. 【4】 Blink as fast as you can for a few seconds, then close your eyes tightly, open and repeat. Do this exercise 3 to 4 times daily.

Eat healthy foods.

You probably hear the statement all the time that eating the right foods is necessary for good health. 【5】Fods that are high in fiber, vitamin C, D and betacarotene as well as other vitamins and minerals can help improve your vision. Here are a few foods that can be beneficial to good vision: carrots, eggs, blueberries, spinach, kale, grapes, and fresh garlic.

A.Reduce eye strain.

B.Keep your eyes moist.

C.Sugar is your eyes' worst enemy.

D.Give your eyes a workout with the following exercise.

【題目】Scientists claim to have developed a revolutionary new giant 3D concrete printer that can build a 2,500-square-foot house in just 24 hours.

The 3D printer, developed by Professor Behrokh Khoshnevis from the University of Southern California, could be used to build a whole house, layer by layer, in a single day.

"It is basically scaling up 3D printing to the scale of building," said Khoshnevis.

The giant robot replaces construction workers with a nozzle (噴嘴), which can quickly build a home based on a computer pattern, MSN News reported.

Contour Crafting, as it is named, is a layered fabrication (構(gòu)造) technology. Using this process, a single house or a colony of houses, each with possibly a different design, may be constructed in a single run, embedded (嵌入) in each house all the wires and pipes for electrical, plumbing and air-conditioning.

The potential applications of this technology are far-reaching including in emergency, low-income, and commercial housing.

"Our research also addresses the application of Contour Crafting in building habitats on other planets. Contour Crafting will most probably be one of the very few feasible approaches for building structures on other planets, such as the Moon and Mars, which are being targeted for human habitation before the end of the new century," researchers said on the project website.

The technology may potentially reduce energy use and emissions. And the main advantages of the Contour Crafting process over existing technologies are the superior surface finish that is realized and the greatly increased speed of construction.

1Professor Khoshnevis has recently developed a 3D printer that can ________.

A. build a 2500-square-foot house in a single day

B. construct a skyscraper, layer by layer

C. design a group of houses automatically

D. assist construction workers in their work

2The new 3D printer uses the following to build a house EXCEPT ________.

A. a nozzle B. a computer pattern C. a robot D. an air-conditioner

3According to the text, the potential applications of Contour Crafting include building _______.

A. emergency vehicles B. low-income housing

C. commercial centers D. space stations on other planets

4What advantages of this new technology is mentioned in the text?

A. It creates more jobs. B. It is less time-consuming.

C. It saves the building cost. D. It emits no carbon dioxide.

【題目】閱讀理解。

Your kids learn a lot from their friends — things you can't teach them, no matter how much you want to.

Probably the most important thing kids learn is how to have peer relationships. As a parent, you can't do this, because you and your child aren't equals.

For example, when you're sitting on your family room floor and your very young child asks you to pass him the blocks, you probably hand them right over. If your child is sitting with a peer and asks the same thing, though, he might not get what he wants.

To succeed, your child will need to learn strategies for getting what he wants. For example, he might simply yank(猛拉) the toy out of his friend's hand. If he does that, he may learn that it's not the best way of getting what he wants because it leads to fighting and timeouts. The successful child will learn that he needs to negotiate a trade, to wait patiently, or to find something else equally fun to play with.

Friends also provide emotional support, something that is part of the foundation of healthy adulthood. You can't be with your child on the elementary school playground or at the high school dance. Your child's friends will be the ones to stick_up_for her, to include her in games, and later, to tell her she looks great even if her lousy prom (糟糕的舞會) date wanders off instead of dancing with her.

Friends also help your children learn. Friends solve problems together, imitate each other, and pass on knowledge.

Some experts believe that the single biggest predictor of your child's success later in life is her ability to make friends. In fact, they claim it's even more important than IQ and grades.

This doesn't mean that the kids who are most popular in school do the best later on in life. What matters is not the number of friends a child has but rather the quality of the relationships.

This is good news for those of us who hate to think that popularity really is the Holy Grail of childhood and adolescence. While it's true that popularity has many advantages, and that many popular kids really are nice people — and not just the best dressed or best looking — it's better to have a few good friends than to have the admiration of the masses.

【1】By giving the example in Paragraph 3, the author wants to show that ________.

A.kids can learn how to deal with the relationships when they stay with their peers

B.parents should spend more spare time playing with their kids

C.kids should learn how to be polite when they ask their parents for help

D.parents can teach their kids how to be good members in the modern society in their daily life

【2】What does the underlined phrase “stick up for” in the fifth paragraph mean?

A.Envy. B.Oppose.

C.Support. D.Ignore.

【3】In the author's opinion, ________ is more important than being popular for kids.

A.getting high grades

B.having some real friends

C.developing a good habit

D.knowing how to dress themselves up

【4】Which of the following can be the best title for the passage?

A.How to Bridge the Generation Gap

B.What It Takes to Be a Good Friend

C.Why Friends Are Important

D.How to Be Popular in School

【題目】I was sure that I was to be killed. I became terribly nervous. I fumbled(摸索) in my pockets to see if there were any cigarettes, which had escapedtheir search. I found one and because of my shaking hands, I could barely get it to my lips. But I had no matches, they had taken those. I looked through the bars at the guard. He did not make eye contact with me. I called out to him “Have you got a light?” He looked at me, shrugged and came over to light my cigarette. As he came close and lit the match, his eyes unconsciously locked with mine. At that moment, I smiled. I don’t know why I did that. Perhaps it was nervousness, perhaps it was because, when you get very close, one to another, it is very hard not to smile. In any case, I smiled. In that instant, it was as though a spark jumped across the gap between our two hearts, our two human souls. I know he didn’t want to, but my smile leaped through the bars and caused a smile on his lips, too. He lit my cigarette but stayed near, looking at me directly in the eyes and continuing to smile.

I kept smiling at him, now thinking of him as a person and not just a guard. "Do you have kids?" he asked. “Yes, here, here.” I took out my wallet and nervously fumbled for the pictures of my family. He, too, took out the pictures of his family and began to talk about his plans and hopes for them. My eyes filled with tears. I said that I feared that I’d never see my family again, never have the chance to see them grow up. Tears came to his eyes, too. Suddenly, without another word, he unlocked my cell and silently led me out. Out of the prison, quietly and by back routes, out of the town. There, at the edge of town, he released me. And without another word, he turned back toward the town.

1What had happened to the man before ?

A. He had been badly treated.

B. He had killed someone.

C. He had been searched.

D. He had been forbidden to get in touch with anyone.

2Why did the man want to smoke cigarettes?

A. Because he was sure he was to be killed.

B. Because he wanted to ease his nervousness.

C. Because he wanted to talk to the guard.

D. Because he was used to smoking cigarettes.

3Which of the following is true according to the passage?

A. The man was a heavy smoker.

B. The man smiled to please the guard.

C. The guard set the man free with permission.

D. The man hadn’t thought the guard would set him free.

4What do you think finally saved the man’s life?

A. The smile. B. The cigarette.

C. The tears. D. The wallet.

Golden Rules of Good Design

What makes good design? Over the years, designers and artists have been trying to1the essentials of good design. They have found that some sayings can help people understand the ideas of good design. There are four as follows.

Less is more. This saying is associated with the German-born architect Mies van der Rohe. In his Modernist view, beauty lies in simplicity and elegance, and the aim of the designer is to create solutions to problems through the most efficient means. Design should avoid unnecessary2

More is not a bore. The American-born architect Robert Venturi concluded that if simplicity is done badly, the result is3design. Post-Modernist designers began to4with decoration and color again. Product design was heavily influenced by this view and can be seen in kitchen5such as ovens and kettles.

Fitness for purpose. Successful product design takes into consideration a product’s function, purpose, shape, form, color, and so on. The most important result for the user is that the product does what is6. For example, think of a(n)7desk lamp. It needs to be constructed from materials that will stand the heat of the lamp and regular adjustments by the user. It also needs to be stable. Most importantly, it needs to8light where it is needed.

From follows emotion. This phrase is associated with the German designer Hartmut Esslinger. He believes design must take into9the sensory side of our nature—sight, smell, touch and taste. These are as important as rational(理性的). When choosing everyday products such as toothpaste, we appreciate a cool-looking device that allows us to easily10the toothpaste onto our brush.
