16.There are many older people in the world and there will be many more.A little-known fact is that over 60 percent of the older people live in developing countries.Accor ding to the World Health Organization,by 2020 there will be 1 billion, with over 700 million living in developing countries.
It is a surprising fact that th e population aging is particularly rapid in developing countries. For example,it took France 115 years for the rate of older people to double from 7 percent to 14 percent. It is estimated to take China a mere 27 years to achieve this same increase.
What are the implications of these increased numbers of older folk? One of the biggest worries for governments is that the longer people live, the more likelihood there is for diseases and for disability.Attention is being paid to the need to keep people as healthy as possible, including during old age,to lessen the financial burden on the state.
Another significant problem is the need for the younger generations to understand and value the older people in their society. In some African countries, certainly in Asia, older people are respected and regarded as the ones with special knowledge.Yet traditions are fading away daily, which does not make sure the continued high regard of older people. As society changes, attitudes will change.
Much needs to be done to get rid of age discrimination in employment.Life-long learning programs need to be provided to enable older people to be active members in a country's development.
Social security policies need to be established to provide adequate income protection for older people. Both public and private schemes are vital in order to build a suitable safety net.

9.Forgiveness
To forgive is a virtue,but no one has ever said it is easy.When someone has deeply hurt you,it can be extremely difficult to let go of your hate.However,forgiveness is possible,and it can be surprisingly beneficial to your physical and mental health.People who forgive show less sadness,anger and stress and more hopefulness,according to a recent research.(36)B
Try the following steps:
Calm yourself.(37)F You can take a couple of breaths and think of something that gives you pleasure:a beautiful scene in nature,or someone you love.
Don't wait for an apology.Many times the person who hurt you does not intend to apologize.They may have wanted to hurt you or they just don't see things the same way.(38)G Keep in mind that forgiveness does not necessarily mean becoming friends again with the person who upset you.
Take the control away from your offender(冒犯者).Rethinking about your hurt gives power to the person who causes you pain.Instead of focusing on your wounded feelings,learn to look for the love,beauty and kindness around you.
(39)D If you understand your offender,you may realize that he or she was acting out of unawareness,fear,and even love.You may want to write a letter to yourself from your offender's point of view.
Don't forget to forgive yourself.(40)E But it can rob you of your self-confidence if you don't do it.

A.Why should you forgive?
B.How should you start to forgive?
C.Recognize the benefits of forgiveness.
D.Try to see things from your offender's angle.
E.For some people,forgiving themselves is the biggest challenge.
F.To make your anger die away,try a simple stress-management technique.
G.If you wait for people to apologize,you could be waiting an awfully long time.

8.A team led by a nurseryman (花圃工人) and his sons has raced against time for 20years,using branches from some of the world's biggest and most long-lasting trees to produce clones that could restore ancient forests and help fight climate change.
Now comes the most ambitious step of the project:getting the new trees into the ground.Plantings of two dozen clones from California's huge coastal redwoods will take place Monday in seven nations:Australia,New Zealand,Great Britain,Ireland,Canada,Germany and the U.S.
The lab-produced trees are genetic copies of three huge trees that were cut down in northern California more than a century ago.Remarkably,new branches still grow from the stumps (樹樁),including one known as the Fieldbrook Stump,which measures 35feet in diameter (直徑).It's believed to be about 4,000years old.
"We need to reforest the planet.To do that,it just makes sense to use the largest,oldest trees that ever lived,"said David Milarch,co-founder of the non-profit Archangel Ancient Tree Archive.
Milarch and his sons Jared and Jake,who have a family-owned nursery,became concerned about the condition of the world's forests in the 1990s.They began traveling across the U.S.in search of"champion"trees that have lived hundreds or even thousands of years,believing that better genes make it possible for them to outlive others of their species.Scientific opinion varies on whether that's true,with skeptics saying the survivors may simply have been lucky.
The Archangel team says they've developed several methods of producing genetic copies.They focus on towering sequoias (高聳的水杉)and redwoods,considering them best suited to absorb great amounts of carbon dioxide (CO2),the greenhouse gas primarily responsible for climate change.
The challenge is to find places to put the trees,people to look after them and money to continue the project,Jared Milarch said.The group is funded through donations and doesn't charge for its clones.
"A lot of trees will be planted by a lot of groups on Arbor Day,but 90percent of them will die,"David Milarch said."You can't plant trees and walk away and expect them to take care of themselves."Those receiving Archangel redwoods have promised to care for them properly.

28.According to the text,the clonesC.

B.a(chǎn)re based on dead ancient trees
C.have been experimented for 20years
D.have been widely grown across the U.S.
29.To reforest the planet,David Milarch chooses the largest,oldest trees becauseB.
A.they are lucky treesB.they have better genes
C.they are easier to plantD.they look more beautiful.
30.David Milarch's team believes that genetic copies from sequoias and redwoodsA.
A.can take in more greenhouse gases
B.a(chǎn)re hard to survive for a long time
C.a(chǎn)re likely to cause climate change
D.may be a threat to existing plants

6.Given that female bed bugs lay over 200eggs during their lifetime,it's not surprising that about one out of five American households have had or know someone who has had a bed bug infection.But a new study shows that an unexpected weapon may be useful in the fight against the tiny,biting enemies:color The BBC's Michelle Roberts reports that bed bugs appear to have strong preferences for certain colors.
A group of researchers became curious about whether bed bugs like certain colors,so they created tiny tents,or harborages of different colors and placed them in petri dishes(培養(yǎng)皿).The researchers then put bed bugs on the center of the dish,giving them ten minutes to choose which harborage they wanted to hide in.
Bed bugs are nest parasites(寄生蟲)-that's why they love human"nests,"or bedrooms.So they're crazy about finding shelter.As a result,it would make sense that a bug placed on the scary broadness of a petri dish would rush for cover as soon as possible.
Most of the bugs ran to black and red harborages,passing by ones of other colors.And they weren't into yellow or green at a11.Overall,the bugs preferred harborages in this order:red,black,orange,blue,lilac,violet and green.Gender influenced the decisions because groups of single-gender bugs preferred the same colors Researchers guess that the decisions may have to do with bugs'considering different shelters as better or worse places to mate or perhaps stay safe from enemies.
"We originally thought the bed bugs might prefer red because blood is red and that's what they feed on,"says Dr.Corraine McNeill"However,after doing the study,the main reason we think they prefer red colors is that bed bugs themselves appear red,so they go to these harborages because they want to be with other bed bugs,as they are known to exist in groups."
28.What did the research discover?A
A.Bed bugs are particular about certain colors.
B.Bed bugs have a preference for living in groups.
C.Bed bugs are difficult toget rid of.

29.The word"harborages"in Para 2can be replaced by"D".
A.bed rooms
B.dishes
C.eggs
D.shelters
30.Bed bugs like red mainly becauseA.
A.they are red
B.red is beautiful
C.red can scare their enemies away
D.b1ood is red and they feed on blood
31.What colour sheet should people choose against bed bugs according to the research?B
A.Red.
B.Yellow.
C.White.
D.Black.
