【題目】Dear young musicians.

Thank you for agreeing to take part in our Music Day. The whole idea of the day is for music students around the area to meet other players and receive expert teaching from our guests, six professional players! In the evening, you will perform the pieces you have worked on during the day at a concert which your friends and family can attend.

After you have registered at the reception,go to the main hall. First, there will be a short performance by our professional musicians who are joining us for the day. After this you will go into your classes to practice on your own instruments for the evening concert. There will also be a chance to experiment with a different instrument from the one you normally play, and see if you enjoy playing something more unusual — we have several instruments to choose from!

The first part of the day will finish at 5 pm,when parents can collect students. For those remaining in the hall until the evening concert at 7 pm,there will be DVDs for you to watch, although you should also bring something to do while you are waiting. A change of clothes is required for the evening — black trousers or a skirt and white top — so unless you are going home at 5 pm,you will need to have this with you at the start of the day.

If for whatever reason you cannot attend the evening concert, you must tell us as soon as possible,as we need to know numbers in order to prepare the stage. We look forward to seeing you at the Young People's Music Day.

Do’s and Don’ts of Donating

Giving up your unused or unwanted stuff is a great way to make space in your home for the items that you do enjoy on a regular basis. Not sure where to start? Here are some do’s and don’ts of donating your belongings.

Do Prepare Your Clothes

You’ve thoroughly cleaned out your closet and drawers, and have a mountain of clothing waiting to be donated. 1 Make sure all buttons are accounted for, and that you can’t see any dirty marks, or damage.

2

The number one rule of donating your stuff is to make sure that it’s in good, usable condition. Don’t pass along old clothes or furniture, chipped dishes, books that are missing pages, or toys with lost pieces. Nobody wants to accept your damaged belongings. Find a local company that will recycle these items instead.

Don’t even think of donating these items

With a little common sense it’s easy to figure out items that are ideal for donations.3As a gentle reminder, it’s never a good idea to donate car parts, dangerous waste, construction materials and weapons.

Don’t donate large appliances

Major appliances such as stoves, fridges, freezers, washers and dryers typically reside on the ‘do not donate’ list due to health and safety reasons. All items accepted for donation must be thoroughly clean and in good working order. With secondhand appliances, it can be difficult to guarantee that they fit the bill.4

Don’t donate recalled items

Every so often a product recall hits the news headlines. Highchairs, toys, holiday lights for Christmas trees—the list of recalled items due to safety concerns is endless. 5 A dangerous product should be thrown away, and not passed on to an unsuspecting person. Think of the well-being of others before dropping off something that’s viewed as a hidden danger in your own home.

A. They’re all acceptable items for donation, too.

B. Instead of donating an unwanted large appliance, call your local trash collection company and arrange for their safe disposal.

C. But unfortunately some people will throw away the contents of their home without a second thought.

D. Before you bag up these pieces, inspect each one to ensure that they’re in good condition and ready to be owned by someone else.

E. Don’t donate damaged items.

F. Clothes aren’t the only household items that can be donated.

G. Never donate recalled items!

【題目】When someone has been bitten by a snake, try to find out if the snake is poisonous or harmless. Their bite marks are usually different. The bite of most of most poisonous snake leaves marks of two fangs(毒牙). If the bit of a snake leaves only two rows of teeth marks, but no fang marks, it is less likely that the snake is poisonous.

People often believe that certain harmless snakes are poisonous. Try to find out which of the snakes in your ares are truly poisonous and which are not. Please do not kill non-poisonous snakes, because they do no harm. On the contrary, they kill mice and other pests that do lots of damage. Some even kill poisonous snakes.

Here is some treatment for poisonous snakebite:

*Stay quiet: don’t move the bitten part. The more it’s moved, the faster the poison will spread through the body. If the bite is on the foot, the person should not walk at all. Send for medical hep.

*Remove jewellery because swelling can spread rapidly.

*Wrap the bitten are with a wide elastic bandage or clean cloth to slow the spread of poison. Keeping the arm or leg very still, wrap it tightly, but not so tight that it stops the pulse(脈搏)at the wrist or on top of the foot. If you cannot feel the pulse, loosen the bandage a little.

*Wind the bandage over the hand or foot, and up the whole arm or leg. Make sure you can still feel the pulse.

*Carry the person, on a stretcher(擔架)if possible, to the nearest health center. If you can also take the snake, because different snakes may require different antivenoms(抗毒血清).

*Poisonous snakebite is dangerous. Send for medical help----but always do the things explained above at once. Some treatments, such as cutting the skin around the bite and sucking the venom out of the bite, can cause infection. And remember: Never drink alcohol after snakebite. It makes things worse!

【題目】Jack was born without eyes. He’s very lucky with his timing. He grew up having other kittens to play and socialize with, and was used to people from the moment he was born since there are always kids hanging around the barn. He was a favorite amongst the students at the barn. However, when it came time to find the kittens homes, no one knew where Jack would end up. That’s when I got an e-mail from my friend. All she asked was “Do you still want one of the kittens? There’s one here with no eyes and no one can take him.” Without thinking I told her that I did want the kitten.

When we first brought him home Jack stayed mostly in my room. He walked cautiously around, sniffing everything. After about a day he had no issues running around, jumping onto my bed and climbing on everything. He went through a time where he could climb the stairs, but couldn’t get down. He would sit at the top and cry until someone came and got him. Every now and then when he gets disoriented he’ll stop and cry. But we just call his name and talk to him and it isn’t long before he finds his way back to us.

Also, a few weeks after getting Jack, we got a new barn cat named Bear. I always take Jack outside at that time for some fresh air and exercise. He loves to run (at top speed!) around the back yard and gardens. Bear and Jack have become best friends. It doesn’t matter that he can’t see, Jack always knows when Bear is around. He’ll run across the yard straight to Bear and wrap his front legs around his neck in a big hug. They chase each other around and wrestle, and when they’re tired they’ll lie down in the grass together.

Jack is truly an inspiration. I’ve owned a lot of kittens in my life, but Jack is the happiest, most playful of them all. He doesn’t feel sorry for himself. Heck, for all he knows, all cats are just like him. People who know Jack don’t feel sorry for him. They cherish him for the treasure that he is. I have talked to a few people who haven’t met him personally who tend to pity him, but they just don’t understand. Jack doesn’t need pity. I think Jean (who has Gumbo the eyeless ginger) said it best when she told me that cats don’t have disabilities, they have adaptabilities.

1According to the first paragraph, Jack __________.

A. got seriously disabled after birth

B. had a good time in the place where he was born

C. ended up wandering in the street at first

D. grew up lonely and sad

2When Jack first came to the authors house, he __________.

A. would cry when he felt lonely

B. was very happy and played wildly in the room

C. had difficulty getting down the stairs

D. always needed someone to guide him

3Which of the following has a similar meaning to the underlined word “disoriented”?

A. Hurt. B. Caught.

C. Lost. D. Broken.

4What can we conclude from the last paragraph?

A. Jack needs people’s pity.

B. All disabled cats have strong adaptabilities.

C. People always feel sad for Jack.

D. Jack’s story has inspired people.

【題目】On the first day of his presidency, Donald Trump (特朗普) began making changes to the policies of earlier presidents.

A document released by the new Trump White House said the president would soon withdraw from the 12-nation Trans-Pacific Partnership trade agreement (12國跨太平洋伙伴貿(mào)易協(xié)定). The free trade deal was negotiated by the Obama(奧巴馬) administration.

The White House website said Trump would also work to renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement known as NAFTA.

"If our partners refuse a renegotiation that gives American workers a fair deal, then the President will give notice of the United States’ intent to withdraw from NAFTA," a White House statement said.

Neither action was a surprise. During the presidential campaign, Trump said bad trade deals had hurt employment in America.

The NAFTA agreement removed most tariffs(關稅) on products traded between the US, Canada and Mexico. It was signed by President Bill Clinton in 1993.

The Trump administration also said it is ready to cancel what it called, "harmful and unnecessary policies." Among them is the Obama administration’s plan to reduce pollutants from coal-powered electricity plants. The climate plan was designed to cut gases that cause global warming.

Another is a clean water rule to protect small waterways and wetlands(水域和濕地) from development by the Environmental Protection Agency.

Trump has said he wants to cancel and replace a third policy, the national health care law, known as "Obamacare."

The Trump administration has promised other major changes. In education, for example, there are plans to give parents more choice in selecting schools for their children, including private, religious schools.

【1】Who would have the U.S. withdraw from the free trade deal negotiated by the Obama administration?

A. The Obama administration.

B. The new Trump White House.

C. The Trump administration.

D. Donald Trump.

2In which case will Donald Trump get the US continue to observe NAFTA?

A. Canada and Mexico agree to offer American workers a fair deal.

B. Canada and Mexico agree to renegotiate NAFTA.

C. Canada and Mexico agree to offer workers a fair deal.

D. The partners refuse a renegotiation that offers American workers a fair deal.

3How many policies considered harmful and unnecessary by the Trump administration are mentioned in the passage?
