【題目】 A young kangaroo is lucky to be alive today thanks to a pair of New South Wales teenagers.
Nick Heath and Jack Donnelly, both 19, were riding their motorbikes in the bush outside Sydney on Sunday when they came across a kangaroo stuck in the mud.
The boys saw the head of the animal sticking out of the mud at Agnes Banks near the Nepean River in southwest Sydney. The animal was clearly in pain but the boys couldn’t reach it, so they raced home to get some rope. When they returned, Mr. Donnelly tied the rope around his waist and walked into the thick mud to get hold of the kangaroo while his friend then pulled them about 30 meters to safety.
Appearing on Today this morning, the young men retold their experience to save the animal.

【題目】 Dogs love to get out and stretch their legs, which not only helps to keep them in shape, but enables them to keep the extra pounds off. Pet hiking has been popular recently, getting dogs off the sidewalk.
Three years ago, Denver resident Brittany Redding was stressed out, working 60 hours a week while studying in graduate school full-time. The only thing that helped was taking her four dogs hiking. “That’s when it hit me that I should do that as a job.” she says. After graduating in June 2016, she founded Take a Hike. Her company, like a number of others around the country, takes dogs to explore beyond the neighborhood.
Before taking on the tracks, Brittany meets with each dog and his or her owner to get a sense of the pet’s character. Then she schedules a meet-and-greet with other dogs that will join the hike to be sure to match their personalities. Each hiking is about two hours long and includes transportation to and from the track for around $70 per outing. “Hiking allows dogs lo meet new friends and explore new tracks, smells, and wildlife,” she explains.
Michael Mizenko thinks sending his pet, Ajax, on weekly hikes with Take a Hike has made Ajax a happier dog. Over the past two years, hiking has taught Ajax how to stay off pavement, be more social and remain calm in the car. “It has made him a flexible easygoing guy.” Michael says.

【題目】請閱讀下面短文,并按照要求用英語寫一篇150詞左右的文章。
Is youth lingo ruining the Chinese language?
Young people often create their own language that goes beyond rigid linguistic rules. This year’s latest slang (俚語) terms add a further simplification: the use of pinyin acronyms (首字母縮略詞). “Awsl,” in pinyin, for instance, means “Ah, wo si le” (Oh, I’m gonna die), and is used if something is too cute or adorable to bear. “Pyq” stands for “pengyou quan”, the social feed on the popular Chinese social media app WeChat, and “nsdd” stands for “ni shuo de dui” (you’re right).
Teens want to be different from their parents, so it’s natural for them to create and use their own linguistic terms to show that. In doing so, young people are indeed driving linguistic change. They aren’t the only factor influencing language development, but they can indeed transform how future generations communicate.
Critics fear that Chinese internet slang will have the potential to negatively influence broader linguistic trends of Mandarin Chinese, in particular, the gradual taking over of pinyin. As pinyin gets widely used when texting or writing on mobile phone or computer, while less and less people write characters by hand, people gradually forget how to write them. The phenomenon has got a name in China: Character amnesia(健忘癥).
