【答案】Dear John,

I am sorry to hear that you are worried about the decline of your health condition and suffering from obesity. As far as I know, all your worries may come from these reasons as follow. And there are some suggestions for you.

One of the reasons could be that you have such a heavy load in study since high school that you seldom take physical exercise or do labor work like housework. What’s more, you stay up too late to chat online and play cellphone games. The worst of all is that you eat too much junk food which is rich in sugar and oil.

To solve the problem, I advise that you should not spend so much time on your cellphone in order to have enough sleep and that you should do sports at least 3 times a week. Besides, you’d better have a balanced diet which includes more fruits and vegetables and refuse junk food.

I sincerely hope you can be in a better health condition. Best wishes!

Your faithfully,

Li Hua

【題目】閱讀下列短文,從每題所給的四個(gè)選項(xiàng)(A、B、C和D)中,選出最佳選項(xiàng)。 Imagine looking f or your lost dog. You step into a cave. But instead of the dog, you find beautiful cave paintings. You see paintings of horses, deer, and bison drawn in black, brown, red and yellow. Your first question would probably be“Who did this? ”
This is what happened to four French boys in 1940. They found the Lascaux caves. The paintings the boys discovered in those caves are about 17, 000 years old. They were drawn by the ancient people called Cro-Magnon(克魯馬努人).
Cro-Magnons looked much like people of today. They used tools, such as fishing nets. But their art was extremely good. The main cave at Lascaux is called Great Hall of Bulls, which has a picture of bulls and horses in many colours. The largest animal is 18 feet long. There are smaller animals, such as bison, stags and a bear. There is also a strange spotted two-horned(兩只角的)animal.
To the left of the main cave are the most famous paintings that are the drawings of animals in many different colours. One painting is called Little Horses. On the ceiling are horses and cows. The most unusual sight may be in the Shaft of the Dead Man where there is a rhinoceros, a carefully drawn dead man, an injured bison and a bird.
Why did Cro-Magnon artists do these beautiful drawings on cave walls? Did the drawings call upon some magic power? Did the Cro-Magnon people hope that the drawings would bring good luck? There is one thing the paintings seem to tell us. The Cro-Magnons were interested in the world. They looked at beauty and they understood it.

Last Saturday, our class had an excited basketball match with our neighbor Class 4. I had thought that our team was consisted of strong and able players, me including, while the opposite team was no match for us. However, when the match started, I was surprised to find that every member of the other team was fighting hardly, despite the fact they were far less capable than us. It came as no surprise that we become the winner in the match. And they won our respect for our performance in the game. The result of the match has taught me that, whatever the outcome is, which counts is that we have tried our best. Only in this way can we make rapid progresses in life.

【題目】Jennifer Fish, a weather forecaster may soon be replaced by something truly fishier---the shark.

Research by a British biology student suggests that sharks could be used to predict storms.

Laura Smith, 24, is close to completing her study on shark’s ability to sense pressure.

If her studies prove the theory, scientists may be able to monitor the behaviour of sharks to predict bad weather.

Miss Smith had previously studied the behaviour of lemon sharks in the Bahamas.

She then used their close relatives, lesser spotted dogfish (貓鯊), for further research at Aberdeen University.

Her work---thought to be the first of its kind to test the pressure theory---resulted from the observation that juvenile blacktip sharks off Florida moved into deeper water ahead of a violent storm in 2001.

Miss Smith said: “I’ve always been crazy about traveling and diving and this led me to an interest in sharks.”

“I was delighted to have been able to research in the area for my degree. I know there’s so much more we need to understand---but it certainly opens the way to more research.”

It has been discovered that a shark senses pressure using hair cells in its balance system.

At the Bimini Shark Lab in the Bahamas, Miss Smith fixed hi-tech sensors to sharks to record pressure and temperature, while also tracking them using GPS (Global Positioning System) technology.

In Aberdeen, she was able to study the effects of tidal (潮汐的) and temperature changes on dogfish---none of which were harmed. She also used a special lab which can mimic (模擬) oceanic pressure changes caused by weather fronts.

She is due to complete her study and graduate later this year. She says she will be looking for a job which will give her the chance to enrich her experience of shark research.

4What is the passage mainly about?
