Do’s and Don’ts in Whale(鯨) Watching
The Department of Fisheries and Oceans has developed guidelines for whale watching in Johnstone Strait, where killer whales are found on a daily basis each summer. It is strongly recommended that vessel(船只) operators follow these guidelines for all kinds of whales.
Approach whales from the side, not from the front or the back.
Approach no closer than 100 meters, then stop the boat but keep the engine on.
Keep noise levels down—no horns, whistles or racing of engines.
Start your boat only after the whales are more than 100 meters from your vessel.
Leave the area slowly, gradually moving faster when you are more than 300 meters from the whales.
Approach and leave slowly, avoiding sudden changes in speed or direction.
Avoid disturbing groups of resting whales.
Keep at low speeds and remain in the same direction if travelling side by side with whales.
When whales are travelling close to shore, avoid crowding them near the shore or coming between the whales and the shore.
Limit the time spent with any group of whales to less than 30 minutes at a time when within 100 to 200 meters of whales.
If there is more than one vessel at the same observation spot, be sure to avoid any boat position that would result in surrounding the whales.
Work together by communicating with other vessels, and make sure that all operators are aware of the whale watching guidelines.

It is strongly recommended that vessel(船只) operators follow these guidelines for all kinds of whales.
從操作規(guī)則第四、五條“Start your boat only after the whales are more than 100 meters from your vessel.Leave the area slowly, gradually moving faster when you are more than 300 meters from the whales”可知:在一百米之外,才能啟動(dòng)船只;三百米之外,才逐漸加速。
Keep at low speeds and remain in the same direction if travelling side by side with whales. 故選A項(xiàng)。
Approach no closer than 100 meters, then stop the boat but keep the engine on.

Holidays are not necessarily for fun or rest. Doing something meaningful can also gain special pleasure. When the final bell rang, the students were reminded that there was no school on Monday—the Labor Day. “Enjoy your extra day off,”said the teacher to her class.
An extra day of fun suited Kayla just fine. She loved breaks. She wanted to go out to play with her friends. When the school bus dropped Kayla off, she ran into the house happily.
“How was school, Kayla?” asked her mom.
“It was great, Mom. I am excited about no school on Monday. ”
“You just started back to school two weeks ago. Already in need of a break, huh?” asked Kayla’s mom with a laugh.
Kayla slept in the next morning. Saturday was her favorite day of the week. It rained most of the day, so Kayla enjoyed playing video games inside. On Sunday, her friends came over and they played basketball for several hours.
Then it was Labor Day, you know, the extra day off that Kayla was so looking forward to. But Kayla was awakened early that morning by her dad. He told Kayla that in honor of Labor Day, the family would be cleaning both inside and outside the house. Kayla couldn’t believe it. This was a holiday. A day when she was supposed to be enjoying freshly squeezed lemonade while playing in her tree house. As Kayla wiped her eyes, she began to wonder if this was just a bad dream.
“Kayla, your breakfast is ready. We have a lot of work to do today. Let’s get a move on, ”said Kayla’s mom. As she sat down at the kitchen table, Kayla asked her parents,
“Are you serious about working today? Isn’t Labor Day a holiday?”
“Yes, Kayla. It is, ”replied her dad. “But your mom and I thought working hard today would make you appreciate why Labor Day was observed in the first place. ”
Paragraph1:
At first, Kayla felt disappointed at her parents’ plan for the holiday.

If you want to live longer, live around green space.
That’s the simple conclusion of the largest analysis ever performed on the relationship between the environment and human health—ever. Eight million people. Seven countries. One simple finding:
“When you are exposed to greenery or greenness around your home, your probability to die is less compared to those with less greenness around their home,” says David Rojas, researcher at the Barcelona Institute for Global Health. And he was the main author of the study, which was published in The Lancet Planet Health teaming up with the World Health Organization.
Specifically, the research team found that for every 10% increase in plants cover that’s within 1,600 feet of your home, your probability of death drops by 4%.
Those hard numbers are the result of a large metastudy(元研究) analyzing nine separate studies about longevity and green space that looked at how and how long people lived over long periods of time. Subjects were from countries around the globe, too: Australia, Canada, China, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, and the U. S.
As Rojas explained, in every country, the finding was the same. People who lived near more green space lived longer than people who lived near less. This green space can be grass, trees, or gardens. It can be public or private space.
He also explained, The study didn’t discriminate(歧視), nor did it have the accurate data to show that some plants were better for our health than others.
【1】Who carried out this research?
A.Rojas’ team
B.Rojas’ team and Lancet Planet Health
C.World Health Organization and Lancet Planet Health
D.Rojas’ team and World Health Organization
【2】What does the underlined word “l(fā)ongevity” in Paragraph 5 probably mean?
A.the length of lifeB.the balance of life
C.the strength of lifeD.the quality of life
【3】It can be inferred from the passage that .
A.Gardens are better for our health than grass and trees.
B.People who are surrounded with plants are probable to live longer.
C.For every 10% reducing in plants cover, your probability of death will increase by 4%.
D.People from developed countries with more green space live healthier than those in the developing countries.
