【題目】 I have had so many fantastic holidays, but my favorite memory is that of a few summer weeks spent in Italy when I was about 13. My mom had to go to a clinic there for treatment, and we all went together as a family and took the opportunity to have a beautiful vacation as well. It was my first time to be abroad and it was a vacation that broadened my perspectives, taught me a lot, and helped shape a bit of who I am today.

Although we did visit many famous places in northern Italy, we stayed mostly in a little town where some friends of my parents lived. Nothing helped me understand Italian culture better than my stay in this magical town that many haven’t even heard of.

Thanks to the holiday spent in Italy, I, quite a shallow girl, also discovered my passion for music, which stayed alive in me to this day and will probably stay forever. My parents’ friends had a son, Ricardo, who was a pianist. Dad had repeatedly but uselessly tried to make me study an instrument and stick to it. However, when I heard Ricardo play, I instantly lost my heart to music and felt a great desire to learn it. Ricardo taught me the first song I ever played on the piano, a silly, playful little time tune that I still know by heart.

We took a short trip to the Italian Alps at some points. I had never seen such majestic beauty before! The snow-capped peaks, the rocks, the fresh, harsh air - what an experience! And what I remember impressed me the most was the fact that, although this was a popular touristic area, the region was incredibly clean, still “natural”, with places that seemed to never have been touched by humans. Then, the shallow teen learned what a real treasure nature is and how important it is to protect it.

1What was the main reason for the author and her family to go to Italy?

A.To cure her mother of her illness.

B.To experience a wonderful vocation.

C.To broaden and shape the author’s view.

D.To keep her mother company.

2What was the main factor contributing to the author’s enthusiasm for music?

A.Her father’s guidance.B.Ricardo’s performance.

C.Her friendship with Ricardo.D.The first song she played on the piano.

3What did the author learn after the trip to Alps?

A.Persistence in her passion for music.

B.Enjoyment of the beauty of nature.

C.Getting rid of her shallowness.

D.Valuing and preserving the environment.

4What would be the best title of the text?

A.My Favorite Holiday Memory.

B.A Trip Shaping My Personality.

C.Lessons from a Trip to Italy.

D.My Love for Music and Nature.

【題目】 This was the first real task I received in my new school. It seemed simple: go on the Internet and find information about a man named George Washington. As I searched the name, I found that there were two famous people having the same name who looked completely different! One invented hundreds of uses for peanuts, while the other led some sort of army across America. I stared at the screen, wondering which one my teacher meant. I called my grandfather for a golden piece of advice; let the coin decide. I flipped () a coin and Ah! Tails (背面)! My report would be about the great man who invented peanut butter, George Washington Carver.

Weeks later, I stood in front of the classroom and proudly read my homework. But things started to get strange. I looked around the room, only to find my classmates with big smiles on their faces and tears in their eyes and my stone-faced teacher. I was completely lost. “What could be causing everyone to act this way?”

As a classmate began his report, it all became clear, “My report is on George Washington, the man who started the American War of Independence.” The whole world became quiet! How could I know that my teacher meant that George Washington?

Of course, my subject result was awful. Sad but fearless, I decided to turn this around. I talked to the headmaster Miss Lancelot, but she said firmly: No re-dos; no new score. I felt that it was not fair, and I believed I deserved a second chance. So I threw myself heartily into my work for the rest of the school year. Ten months later, I sat in the headmaster’s office again, but this time a completely different conversation. Last Friday, our class organized a visit to the city museum. We got to there by bus. First, we listened to the brief introduction to the museum. Then, we set out to exploring the museum in small groups. Which caught our attention first was some skillful carved bronze ware dating from the Shang Dynasty. Afterwards, we looked at some cultural relics relate to Shanxi merchants and local custom. To be honest. I felt amazing at the wide range of exhibits on display.

【題目】 The victims were carried in one by one, their paws burned and fur burnt, suffering from dehydration (脫水) and fear. Their caretakers bandaged (用繃帶包扎) their wounds and laid them in baskets with the only thing that was familiar — the leaves of a eucalyptus (桉樹) tree. As fires have burned more than two million acres in Australia, dozens of koalas have been rescued from burned trees and pale ground. The animals are being treated in rescue centers, and at least one private home, along the country’s east coast.

The difficult situation of the koala — a national symbol of Australia — has raised questions among environmentalists and scientists about what it will take to protect biodiversity (生物多樣性) in a country with intense fire, extreme heat and lack of water. Australia has already been among the highest rates of species extinction in the world.

The bad situation goes beyond koalas. Recently, tens of thousands of bats fell from the sky in temperatures over 107 degrees Fahrenheit in northern Australia. Kangaroos destroyed the grapes in Canberra because of drought.

“Climate change and other human impacts have so changed the situation that the government needs to rethink its way to protect at once,” Dr. Bowman said, suggesting interventions (干預) like irrigating, feeding and moving animals to new places.

Koalas, unlike kangaroos, birds or snakes, do not escape from fires. Therefore, though the fires are still burning, a rescue team began to search the area carefully. Walking in a human chain, they looked up to the tree top, searching for survivors.

1What do the victims in the first paragraph refer to?

A.Animals injured in fires.

B.Kangaroos driven by drought.

C.Bats that fell from the sky.

D.Koalas rescued from the fire.

2Which of the following may cause the extinction of wildlife?

A.Wildfires that seldom happened.

B.Extreme hot weather in Australia.

C.The never-changing climate in Australia.

D.Not having enough money to take measures in Australia.

3What can we draw from Dr. Bowman?

A.Human activities have little influence on animals.

B.The government should take immediate action.

C.The government does not care about the wild animals.

D.Scientists are concerned about the bad situation of wildlife.

4What’s the best title for the text?

A.Saving the Fire Victims Who Cannot Escape: Australia’s Koalas

B.Saving the Endangered Wild Animals in Australia

C.Actions Needed to Protect Habitat for Koalas

D.National Symbol of Australia Needs Rescue
