【題目】Life Lessons Everyone Learns the Hard Way

No matter how much we try to be intellectual, life has its own ways of teaching us the valuable lessons. Though initially we are hurt and very shocked, we eventually learn from those experiences, and mature. 1 And we learn to be always optimistic and happy with the way it is.

Lying is harmful. Everyone at some point in life must have definitely realized that lying is a very dangerous thing for the mind, which ultimately affects health, too. Lying makes a man lose the trust of others. 2

Sometimes moving on is the only option. Some things are very dear to us, and we can't imagine life without those activities or people. But sometimes, circumstances and situations arrange in such a way that it is better to leave something and move ahead. 3 At times, it is better to move on with the memories, rather than stay there and live in a blank space with no possible future.

4 In the race of being a perfectionist and an ideal grown-up, every mistake committed by us becomes a mistake in our minds and we become annoyed with ourselves. It is rightly said, "To err (犯錯(cuò)) is human." We are all humans, so nobody knows everything, and it is fine to forgive ourselves for the things that went wrong. 5

A.It is natural to make mistakes.

B.Happiness is the care of everything.

C.It is wrong if some things don't work out.

D.We understand that life is beautiful with its own flaws (瑕疵).

E.And he would finally lose confidence and trust on his own self.

F.Everything has its tenure (保有期限), and it is the beauty of it.

G.What we should do is try to avoid repeating them or doing any wrong intentionally.

【題目】 Climate change has already begun to impact our planet in more ways than we can think.

1 Saving the environment starts with us and it is our responsibility to act against these terrible changes to preserve the planet for future generations.

Make your commute green. Millions of people drive to work every day. 2 However, the downside to this is that millions of cars emit greenhouse gases that destroy our atmosphere. There are always other options that you can utilize to make your commute to work eco-friendly. For starters, taking public transportation to work is a great way to cut out emissions. Riding your bike to work is also incredibly helpful to the environment and is a great method to get exercise.

Be more conservative with energy usage. Becoming more energy efficient is a great way to prevent pollution. 3 Make sure to turn off lights and unplug devices that you are not using anymore when you are done with them. Replace your light bulbs with energy-efficient light bulbs to help you save electricity too.

Recycle. Manufacturing plants emit a large number of greenhouse gasses per year. It is unavoidable in the production of goods that we use on a regular basis. However, a cleaner alternative would be to invest in recycling. 4 The professionals will take these items to a processing plant where they will be remade into other recyclable materials again.

5 Focusing your efforts to spread awareness about renewable energy is the best way to create a positive impact in your community. By informing others about how renewable energy is better than fossil fuels (化石燃料), you will persuade others into investing in the idea.

A.Educate yourself and others.

B.Encourage the use of renewable energies.

C.It’s simply unavoidable in our modern-day society.

D.Be sure to collect your abandoned paper, plastic and electronics.

E.Fortunately, there are always things we can do to fight against it.

F.This requires you to cut down on energy usage in your household.

G.Recycling is a cost-effective and eco-friendly process that eliminates waste.

【題目】 Robert Vallieres hikes for miles, often three times a week, climbing the high mountains, just to get a glimpse of his beloved birds.

Many years ago, as a young engineer in the army, Vallieres was struck in the head in a task in Gulf War, which ended his military career and left him fighting for his life. He was 28 years old and battled stress, survivor’s guilt and PTSD (創(chuàng)傷后應(yīng)激障礙). “When you’re disabled and you really can’t move too much, you’re wondering if death is nearby.” he said.

Despite his condition, Vallieres still had to be a father to his little boy-a curious child who helped jump start his love for birds.

One day, his three-year-old son noticed a bird and asked his father what kind it was. Vallieres bought a bird identification book and started learning along with his son. He bought some small telescopes and the two began observing birds together near their home in New Hampshire.

Then came another turning point. Vallieres saw an ad in the newspaper for a birding trip in New Hampshire’s White Mountains and signed up.

Now it’s his joy and renewed purpose to track and save the peregrine falcon and the bald eagle-two species nearly wiped out by the chemicals used for killing pests. It’s hard physical work for anyone, which needs patience, keen observation skills and time. But Vallieres is a natural at it, because his military training made him a perfect match, especially in reading maps and navigating.

Vallieres says not only does his volunteering help with physical fitness, but also his mental state. “To find rhythm or purpose in life besides myself,” says Vallieres, “I shouldn’t get stuck on myself but have a way out.”

1What led to Vallieres leaving the army?

A.Life failure.B.Severe injury.

【題目】 What do you do when nobody is around to take your picture? You take a selfie (拍照) .But what about selfies in space? On Twitter last year, NASA astronaut Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin, who famously became the second man to walk on the moon in July 1969, laid claim to a spaceflight first taking the first selfie in space during the Gemini XII mission in 1966.

“For me, it needs to be digital to be selfie,” argues Jennifer Levasseur, who is in charge of the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. According to Levasseur, the concept of a selfie is directly linked to Internet culture and human desire to interact on social platforms. “The thing that makes a selfie is sharing it,” she says.

Still, astronauts have been carrying cameras abroad space vehicles since the 1960s ,and they've taken plenty of pictures of themselves along the way. Astronauts had to pull the film magazines out and leave their cameras behind when they returned to Earth because early space missions were restricted by a conservative weight limit on the return trip.

A big change in space camera technology came after sad loss of the space shuttle Columbia who broke apart on its return to Earth in 2003. “Fearing that they would never be able to bring the film back from space and lose all that hard work celebrated the push for digital.” Levasseur says.

Today astronauts can have access to the Internet and social platforms in space and post true based selfies taken by digital cameras. Taking selfies and sharing them on social media is a way that astronauts in space can participate in the same activities people on Earth do every day. The first astronaut selfie that went viral(網(wǎng)紅的) on the internet was one by Japanese astronaut Akihiko Hoshide in 2012.

1What does Levasseur think of Aldrin's claim?

A.It hardly makes any sense.B.It revolutionizes astronautics.

C.It contradicts public opinions.D.It needs to be further proved.

2Why were cameras left in space on early space missions?

A.To lighten the load of the spaceship.

B.To test cameras under extreme conditions.

C.To prepare for the next stage of spaceexploration.

D.To take more pictures in space by remote control.

3What advanced space camera technology?

A.The invention of new films

B.The fear of falling behind in the space race

C.The concern about the loss of valuable data

D.The popularity of space selfies on socia media

4What is the best title for the text?

A.The Exploration of Space.B.The History of Selfies in Space.

C.The Change in Space Camera Technology.D.The Development in Space Technology.
