14.At the beginning of the World Series of 1947,I experienced a completely new emotion,when the National Anthem was played.This time,I thought,it is being played for me,as much as for anyone else.This is organized major league baseball,and I am standing here with all the others; and everything that takes place includes me.
About a year later,I went to Atlanta,Georgia,to play in an exhibition game.On the field,for the first time in Atlanta,there were Negroes and whites.Other Negroes besides me.And I thought:What I have always believed has come to be.
And what is it that I have always believed?First,those imperfections are human.But that wherever human beings were given room to breathe and time to think,those imperfections would disappear,no matter how slowly.I do not believe that we have found or even approached perfection.That is not necessarily in the scheme of human events.Handicaps,stumbling blocks,prejudices-all of these are imperfect.Yet,they have to be dealt with because they are in the scheme of human events.
Whatever obstacles I found made me fight all the harder.But it would have been impossible for me to fight at all,except that I was sustained by the personal and deep-rooted belief that my fight had a chance.It had a chance because it took place in a free society.Not once was I forced to face and fight an immovable object.Not once was the situation so cast-iron rigid that I had no chance at all.Free minds and human hearts were at work all around me; and so there was the probability of improvement.I look at my children now,and know that I must still prepare them to meet obstacles and prejudices.
But I can tell them,too,that they will never face some of these prejudices because other people have gone before them.And to myself I can say that,because progress is unalterable,many of today's dogmas (教條)will have vanished by the time they grow into adults.I can say to my children:There is a chance for you.No guarantee,but a chance.And this chance has come to be,because there is nothing static with free people.There is no Middle Ages logic so strong that it can stop the human tide from flowing forward.I do not believe that every person,in every walk of life,can succeed in spite of any handicap.That would be perfection.But I do believe-and with every fiber in me-that what I was able to attain came to be because we put behind us (no matter how slowly) the dogmas of the past:to discover the truth of today; and perhaps find the greatness of tomorrow.
I believe in the human race.I believe in the warm heart.I believe in man's honesty.I believe in the goodness of a free society.And I believe that the society can remain good only as long as we are willing to fight for it-and to fight against whatever imperfections may exist.My fight was against the barriers that kept Negroes out of baseball.This was the area where I found imperfection,and where I was best able to fight.And I fought because I knew it was not doomed to be a losing fight.It couldn't be a losing fight-not when it took place in a free society.And in the largest sense,I believe that what I did was done for me-that it was my faith in God that sustained me in my fight.And that what was done for me must and will be done for others.

2."Confidence"is probably one of the most noticeable quality in the Americans.They show confidence in the way they talk,the way they smile,the way they dress and the way they walk.Living and competing with all these confident American students,I find it extremely important to be confident as an international student and teacher.As a student,being confident means you should dare to raise your hand whenever a question or a point comes to your mind.Don't mind if it sounds simple or silly.Otherwise you will never get a chance to speak in class at all.What's worse,the professors may think you are not prepared for the discussion or you do not have your own opinion on the topic---this is the last comment any graduate would not like to receive.
Being confident for me as a foreign teacher means calmly asking the student to repeat what he or she has said if I did not get it.Pretending to understand what you actually did not may just bring yourself uneasiness or even shame.But the time I most need to be confident is when my students come to my office and bargain about the grades I have given for their speeches (The course I'm teaching here is Public Speaking.).Modesty is a quality highly valued in China,but it won't be of much help here if you want to survive and succeed in a good American graduate program.
28.What should we do most if we want to compete with American students?A
A.Be quite confident.
B.Be polite and friendly.
C.Have more discussions.
D.Know what they think about.
29.A professor will have the worst opinion of a student whoD.
A.gives a silly or simple answer
B.tries to seize any chance to speak in class
C.shows no interest in the course
D.is considered to have no opinion of his own
30.The author is most likely to feel uneasiness ifC.
A.he asks a student to repeat what he has said
B.the students bargain with him
C.he pretends to know what he doesn't
D.he has to give a speech
31.The passage is mainly organized byB.
A.giving examples

D.making comparisons.

4.Terrafugia Inc.said Monday that its new flying car has completed its first flight, bringing the company closer to its goal of selling the flying car within the next year. The vehicle-named the Transition-has two seats, four wheels and wings that fold up so it can be driven like a car.The Transition, which flew at 1,400 feet for eight minutes last month, can reach around 70 miles per hour on the road and 115 in the air. It flies using a 23-gallon tank of gas and burns 5 gallons per hour in the air.On the ground,it gets 35 miles per gallon.
Around 100 people have already put down a﹩10,000 deposit to get a Transition when they go on sale, and those numbers will likely rise after Terrafugia introduces the Transition to the public later this week at the New York Auto Show. But don't  expect it to show up in too many driveways. It's expected to cost﹩279,000.And it won't  help if you're stuck in traffic. The car needs a runway.
Inventors have been trying to make flying cars since the 1930s,according to Robert Mann,an airline industry expert. But Mann thinks Terrafugia has come closer than anyone to making the flying car a reality. The government has already permitted the company to use special materials to make it easier for the vehicle to fly.The Transition  is now going through crash tests to make sure it meets federal safety standards.
Mann said Terrafugia was helped by the Federal Aviation Administration's decision five years ago to create a separate set of standards for light sport aircraft, which are lower than those for pilots of larger planes.Terrafugia says an owner would need to pass a test and complete 20 hours of flying time to be able to fly the Transition,a requirement pilots would find relatively easy to meet.

28.What is the first paragraph mainly about?A
A.The basic data of the Transition.
B.The advantages of flying cars.
C.The potential market for flying cars.
C.The designers of the Transition.
29.Why is the Transition unlikely to show up in too many driveways?C
A.It causes traffic jams.
B.It is difficult to operate.
C.It is very expensive.
D.It burns too much fuel.
30.What is the government's attitude to the development of the flying car?B
A.Cautious.
B.Favorable.
C.Ambiguous.
D.Disapproving.
31.What is the best title for the text?D
A.Flying Car at Auto Show          B.The Transition's First Flight
C.Pilots'Dream Coming True         D.Flying Car Closer to Reality.
