Not only does this save the environment, but it also saves your money. ___4.___ This saying can be applied to all sorts of things: books, CDs, furniture, etc. Also try shopping at second-hand stores, because they often have lots of items still in good shape for you to choose.
Many countries have made it easy for people to recycle, as alongside the normal garbage trucks, special garbage trucks come and pick up recyclables. On Wednesday of this Culture & Art Week, we invite the American teacher Prof. Hudson to our school. He gave a class to us and his class left us a very deeper impression.
Prof. Hudson had a free talk with us in the simple but humorous English. He spoke slowly and clearly so that we could follow her well. In the same time, he would repeat that we did not understand.
Greatly encouraging, most of us took an active part his class.
From his lessons, we came to the conclusion that it is not so difficult to learning English well.

Last spring, I was fortunate to be chosen to join in an exchange study program. The moment I arrived in Paris, I was greeted by a nice French couple who would become my host parents. The bit of French I had taken in high school began coming out of my mouth; speaking the language would only become more natural over the course of the term. At the airport, we all got into the couple’s car and began the journey to their townhouse. We talked the whole way, getting to know one another.
Every day afterwards, I would eat breakfast with the two of them, and then we’d all go our separate ways for the day. In the evening, my host mother would make delicious dinners for the three of us. My experience was exciting until I received some shocking news from my program coordinator(協(xié)調(diào)人): There had been a death in my host parents' family and they would have to go away for several weeks to deal with all the business that arises from the death. That afternoon, I had to move out of one family's house and into another.
The coordinator told me I'd have a roommate and asked whether I would mind sharing a bedroom with an English speaker. To avoid speaking my native language, I asked not to be placed with an English-speaking roommate. When I got to my new room, I introduced myself to my new roommate Paolo, a Brazilian(巴西人), the same age as I, whom I was surprised to find playing one of my favorite CDs on his computer! In just a few hours, we knew we'd be good friends for the rest of the term.
I left France with many stories, so when people ask me what my favorite part of the trip was, they always hear about my Brazilian friend Paolo and the weekdays in class, weeknights on the town, and weekends exploring France we enjoyed together. I would recommend an exchange program to anyone who wants to experience foreign cultures and gain meaningful friendships.
1.What do we learn about the author?
A. He was good at French before arriving in Paris.
B. He studied in France for a term.
C. He got to his host family by taxi.
D. He worked very hard in France on weekends.
2.Why did the author move into another host family?
A. He wanted to make friends with different people.
B. The first family’s host mother was seriously ill.
C. The first family had to leave for some time.
D. He hoped to live with an English speaker.
3.What helped start the author’s friendship with Paolo?
A. Lessons B. Stories C. Music D. English
4.Why did the author write the text?
A. To show the importance of learning foreign cultures.
B. To discuss how to build meaningful friendships.
C. To explain how exchange study programs work.
D. To describe his experiences in an exchange program.

Many people believe that you lose the ability to learn new languages as you get older. Language experts, however, will tell you that you’re never too old to learn a new language. As you get older, it can be more difficult to learn a new language, though.
Children and adults learn new languages in different ways. For children, language is their life. They study for thousands of hours every year, because they need to learn languages to become part of their communities. Adults, on the other hand, are already part of a language community. Learning a new language means becoming part of another language community, and adults rarely get the chance to practice as much as young children do.
Moreover, children learning a new language are expected to make mistakes. This gives them freedom when learning to be daring and confident. Adults, however, often feel pressured to be perfect when learning a new language. This can discourage many people and make it even harder to learn a new language.
When young children learn a new language, they come to see various languages as a “normal” part of society. This mindset (思維模式) helps them embrace learning a new language without feeling like they’re doing something unusual or “too hard”.
So if you want to learn a new language, go for it! It’s never too late to learn a new language. If you’re older, it may take more work, but it can be done. If you’re a young child, though, now is the time to step out and learn a new language!
1.By “Language is their life”, the author means that children ________.
A. can’t live without language
B. lead a happy life every day
C. practice a new language a lot
D. are taken good care of adults
2.What may make it hard for the old people to learn to a new language?
A. They are afraid of being laughed at.
B. They usually have too many interests.
C. They think making mistakes is natural.
D. They always make all kinds of mistakes.
3.Which of the following shows the difference between children and adults in learning a new language?
A. The behaviors they have.
B. The learning attitudes.
C. The future plans they have made.
D. The materials they are using.
4.According to the author, a new language ________.
A. can never be learned by the old people
B. can be grasped by the old people easily
C. can be understood only by the old people
D. can be learned by both the old and the young

MONTREAL (Reuters) – Crossing the US-Canada border(邊界)to go to church on a Sunday cost a US citizen $10,000 for breaking Washington’s strict new security(安全)rules.
The expensive trip to church was a surprise for Richard Albert, who lives right on the Canadian border. Like the other half-dozen people of Township 15, crossing the border is a daily occurrence for Albert. The nearby Quebec village of St. Pamphile is where they shop, eat and go to church.
There are many such situations in these areas along the largely unguarded 5,530-mile border between Canada and the US which in some cases actually runs down the middle of streets or through buildings. As a result, Albert says he did not expect any problems three weeks ago when he returned home to the US after attending church in Canada, as usual. The US customs(海關(guān))station in this area is closed on Sundays, so be just drove around the locked gate, as he had done every weekend since the gate appeared last May, following a tightening of border security. Two days later, Albert was told to go to the customs office, where an officer told him he had been caught on camera crossing the border illegally(非法).
Ottawa has given out special passes to some 300 US citizens in that area so they can enter the country when Canadian customs stations are closed, but the US stopped a similar program last May. That forces the people to a 200-mile detour along hilly roads to get home through another border checkpoint.
Albert has requested that the customs office change their decisions on the fine, but he has not attended a Sunday church since. “I feel like I’m living in a prison,” he said.

A.a(chǎn)n American living in Township 15

2.Albert was fined because he .
A.failed to obey traffic rules
B.broke the American security rules
C.worked in St. Pamphile without a pass
D.damaged the gate of the customs office
3.The underlined word “detour” in paragraph 5 means .
A.a(chǎn) drive through the town
B.a(chǎn) race across the fields
C.a(chǎn) roundabout way of travelling
D.a(chǎn) journey in the mountain area
4.What would be the best title for the text?
A.A Cross-country Trip
B.A Special Border Pass
C.An Unguarded Border
D.An Expensive Church Visit
