【答案】

Dear friends,

In recent years, many of us spend a lot of time on the Internet with its popularity. As a result, our handwriting is not so good as it was in the past. In order to protect our Chinese characters and write both nicely and neatly, we’d like to offer some suggestions:

We should spend less time online so that we can have more time to read books and newspaper. We’d better form the habit of practicing calligraphy and keeping diaries every day. Besides, it is better to write letters to our relatives and friends by hand rather than send e-mails.

As the saying goes, “The style is the man.” Beautiful and neat handwriting is beneficial to us students. So please pay more attention to our handwriting in the future.

Let’s take action now!

【題目】任務(wù)型閱讀

注意:每空只填一個單詞。

Frederick M. Hess is the director of education policy studies at the American Enterprise Institute, which is a nonprofit organization that conducts research on many public issues. He says that a long summer vacation doesnt make sense in todays world.

Can American students afford to take a summer vacation? In a summer vacation, millions of kids spend valuable time sending messages, watching TV, playing video games and doing shopping in the mall. They will also be putting their academic futures at risk.

Summer vacation once made sense in the past when you didnt need an education to get a good job. But now things have changed. For todays students, academic skills are important to studentsfuture success, but such skills are affected in the summertime. Many nations dont give kids an American-style summer vacation. They offer no more than seven consecutive(連續(xù)的) weeks of vacation. Most American school districts offer up to thirteen weeks. To compete in the global marketplace, Americans must be prepared to go up against international competitors.

Summer vacation also causes challenges for todays families. In the 1960s, more than 60% of families had a stay-at-home Mom. Now two-thirds of American children live in households where every adult works. For these families, summer vacation can be more burden than break. Someone must watch the kids.

But the biggest problem may be how summer vacation hurts academic achievement. Researchers have found that disadvantaged students lose significant ground in the summertime.

A longer school year does not have to be an invitation to hard boring work. Rather, it should allow time-pressed teachers to conduct richer and more imaginative lessons. Schools would have more time to devote to athletics, languages, music and the arts. Summer vacation can be a grand thing. But in the 21st century, it may also be outdated.

【題目】It’s 5:00 in the morning when the alarm (鬧鐘) rings in my ears. I roll out of bed and walk blindly through the dark into the bathroom. I turn on the light and put on my glasses. The house is still as I walk downstairs while my husband and three kids sleep peacefully. Usually I go for a long run, but today I choose my favorite exercise DVD, Insanity. Sweat pours down my face and into my eyes. My heart races as I face my body to finish each movement. As I near the end of the exercise, I feel extremely tired, but a smile is of my face. It’s a smile because the DVD is over, but a smile of success from pushing my body to its extreme limit.

Some people enjoy shopping, smoking, food, work,or even chocolate. But I need exercise to get through each day. Some shake heads when they see me run through the town. Others get hurt when I refuse to try just one bite of their grandmother’s chocolate cake. They raise their eyebrows, surprised by my “no thank you,” or by my choice to have a salad. Over the years,I have learned it’s okay to just say “no.” I shouldn’t feel sorry for refusing food that I don’t want to eat.

So what drives me to roll out of bed at 5:00 a.m.? What gives me the reason to just say to ice cream? Commitment. A commitment to change my life with a way that reduces daily anxiety, increases self–confidence and energy, extends life and above all improves my body shape. This is the point where a smile appears on my face as I look at myself in the mirror or try on my favorite pair of jeans that now fit just right. It’s through commitment and sweat that I can make a difference within myself inside and out.

1】Why is there a smile on the author’s face in the morning?

A. Because she sees her family sleeping peacefully.

B. Because she feels a sense of achievement.

C. Because she enjoys the interesting DVD.

D. Because she finishes her favorite exercise.

2】Which of the following is true according to Paragraph 2?

A. Others don’t understand what she does.

B. She likes to make others surprised.

C. She doesn’t like others politely.

D. Others try to help her by offering her food.

3】What does the underlined word “commitment” in the last paragraph mean?

A. Good health. B. A regular habit.

C. A strong power. D. Firm belief.

4】What can we learn about the author from the text?

A. She aims to develop a good body shape.

B. She wants to look different from others.

C. She acts in a strange way.

D. She has difficulty getting along with others.

【題目】Paparazzi, (狗仔隊)or “paps”, are photographers who take pictures of famous people when they are not at the center of public attention. Paps are different from professional photographers or journalists because they never take ordinary photos.

The goal for paparazzi is to get pictures that no one else will get and then sell the pictures to the buyer who offers the most money normainly a small newspaper, magazine or website.

There is no law against paparazzi taking pictures in public places. However, there are laws that protect certain individuals. For example, child protection laws stop improper pictures of anyone under 16 from being published.

There is also no law that stops paparazzi from following celebrities(名人) and taking their pictures either. However, if paps are secretly following them and taking pictures of their faces, they could get into trouble.

Most paparazzi hang out on streets and hot spots for celebrities, waiting for the opportunity to take a picture of a star. Many stay on the streets until the early hours of the morning when celebrities are leaving nightclubs and looking a little worse for wear. However, some have other ways to make sure they get pictures. Many paps are in contact with “informers” who know the locations of celebrities at any given time. They then pass the information on to paparazzi. An informer could be anyone from a restaurant waiter to a salesman.

Most of the time, paparazzi get a bad reputation for following celebrities. But sometimes stars or their managers will contact paps themselves and tell them exactly where and when they will go. What a love-hate relationship between paparazzi and celebrities!
