So,it is the children, rather than the Internet that are to blame. We adults should help our children learn to use the Internet appropriately..

8.Last night I was driving from Harrisburg to Lewisburg,a distance of about eighty miles. It was late.Several times I got stuck behind a slow-moving truck on a narrow road with a solid white line on my left, and I became increasingly impatient.
At one point along an open road,I came to a crossing with a traffic light.I was alone on the road by now,but as I drove near the light,it turned red and I made a stop.I looked left, right and behind me.Nothing.Not a car,no suggestion of car lamps, but there I sat, waiting for the light to change, the only human being for at least a mile in any direction.
I started wondering why I refused to run the light.I was not afraid of being caught, because there was clearly no policeman around, and there certainly would have been no danger in going through it.
Much later that night, the question of why I'd stopped for that light came back to me.I think I stopped because it's part of a contract we all have with each other. It's not only the law,but it's an agreement we have, and we trust each other to honor it:we don't go through red lights.
Trust is our first inclination(傾向).Doubting others does not seem to be natural to us.The whole construction of our society depends on mutual(相互的)trust, not distrust. We do what we say we'll do,we show up when we say we'll show up;and we pay when we say we'll pay.We trust each other in these matters, and we're angry or disappointed with the person or organization that breaks the trust we have in them.
I was so proud of myself for stopping for the red light that night.

7.More than one-third of adults in the United States are obese(肥胖).In fact,over obesity has reached such proportions that one big-city mayor has gone about banning large-sized,sugary soft drinks and the First Lady has been on a campaign to control the dietary offerings in public schools.
Even many adults who do not fit the clinic definition of obesity are still overweight, and a large percentage are looking for the best ways to lose weight.
Reducing pounds largely comes down to the two-sided factors of diet and exercise.Not carrying out the first one enough,and not getting enough of the second one,ends up giving the individual a recipe for being overweight.
Advising someone to eat less and exercise more might be the easiest advice possible,but it's also,partially,an oversimplification.Dieting has more to do with the types of food you eat than how much you eat.Reduce the amount of red meat in your diet.If you don't want to eliminate red meat altogether,choose cuts of meat with less fat content.Limit your intake of salt and starches.If you've got to have potato chips alongside your sandwich at lunch,choose the baked potato chips that contain less fat than the deep-fried chips.You might find you're really not sacrificing that much in terms of taste.
A diet rich in fruits,vegetables,egg whites,fish and nonfat dairy products will certainly aid in the mission of losing weight.Drink more water and less sugary drinks.If you have to have a soda,a diet soda is a better option,but seltzer is an even better choice than that.
It's important-if not always easy-to make sure you get at least some physical activity each and every day.If your feet won't allow for a regular jogging regimen,then make sure you take lots of walks.Next time you need to mail a letter,walk to the mailbox instead of driving.Try to work in a daily walk in your neighborhood.

28.You shouldAwhen you want to lose weight.
A.diet as well as exercise enough
B.try not to fit the clinic definition of obesity
C.get little exercise every day
D.focus your attention on diet only
29.The First Lady has started a movement toB.
A.raise people's awareness of healthy diet
B.control the public school dietary supplying
C.ban the sugary soft drinks
D.realize the importance of dieting
30.What can we learn from the fourth paragraph?D
A.We must keep far away from fat and ignore our taste.
B.The simplest and best way to lose weight is to eat and exercise more.
C.We should remove the red meat in our diet completely to reduce weight.
D.When it comes to diet,no one needs to starve themselves in order to lose weight.
31.The last paragraph is mainly aboutC.
A.walk

5.Selfies (自拍) have become an increasingly common way to capture memorable moments.When it comes to taking selfies,knowing the following tips can directly affect the quality of your final product.
The use of light is vital to improving image quality.Lights can help avoid shadows and create soft features on your face,so turn your face toward the main light source.If you want to be creative,play with light angles by turning your body,but make sure the photo is properly exposed and your face is lit from the front or the side.Besides,avoid taking selfies against the main light source or with overhead lighting.Additionally,natural light possesses a warmth that makes you look like you're glowing.
When taking selfies,angles also matter a lot.Hold the camera away from your face,and try to take photos both horizontally and vertically.If not,your face might look bigger than usual.Ideally,the universal selfie angle is 45 degrees above your head.But you should study your face at different angles because finding your best angle requires you having seen all of them.
One problem with selfies is that most have distracting backgrounds.You can always do more to show others your best side.Try to simplify the background by taking selfies outdoors or in spacious areas.Document yourself engaging in interesting activities--hiking with family members,visiting landmarks,or working out with friends.At least,you can make the photo appealing by getting rid of your outstretched arm or a background that's too busy.
You can also download some photo apps that allow you to adjust the lighting and contrast.Some apps offer useful filters,which can change your skin tone and eliminate pimples (粉刺) on your face.

25.To get an image of high quality,you need toC.
A.be under the light source B.be against the main light
C.face the main light source D.have the photo fully exposed
26.How can you find the angle that suits you most?A
A.Study your face at different angles.
B.Hold the camera far enough from you.
C.Keep the camera lower than your face.
D.Place the camera 45 degrees above your head.
27.Which of the following should be avoided when taking selfies?D
A.The use of natural light.B.A landmark as a background.
C.Changes of the skin tone.D.A busy background.

3.Today's workplace is unique in history.Never before have we seen people working together who represent such different backgrounds and experiences.This difference of age,race,gender,and work style makes it very difficult to organize and run a company.
As a result,companies are looking for individuals who can manage a wide range of employees effectively.Increasingly,managers are discovering that age differences among workers are a major cause of concern.
This has been an important realization.The management difficulties and challenges have led some experts to study intergenerational differences for an understanding of problems in the workplace.What they have discovered is interesting and may provide ways of improving working conditions in companies that employ individuals from different generations.
The first thing to realize,they say,is that differences of opinion about the importance of work and how to get work done are not a coincidence.That is,it is not an accident that young employees will be different from older employees.In fact,if employers do not pay attention to these differences,it is possible that anger will build up between people and lead to difficulties in the company.
Resentment (仇恨) between members of different generations,if not attended to,can lead to extreme anger and unhappiness and even lasting enmity if people are not careful.That individuals from different generations should come to view each other as if they were from different sides of warring countries should not be surprising.
It is natural for individuals from the same generation to form alliances (聯(lián)盟),to come together for protection.Different generations represent different experiences in life,and these lead naturally to different opinions about oneself and one's approaches to work.
If you were raised in a time of plenty,when products were readily available and relatively inexpensive,you would believe that prosperity is natural and expectable.If,on the other hand,you were raised in a time of scarcity,you would always be careful not to waste things for fear you would not have enough.You would make angry people who seem to believe that problems will always solve themselves.Such optimism in the face of difficulties would be a source of unhappiness between you and them.It is difficult,in such circumstances,to achieve a happy,agreeable atmosphere in the workplace.

84.What most possibly makes it difficult to organize or run a company?A
A.Employees are in different generations.
B.Employees are of different backgrounds.
C.Employees work in different styles.
D.Employees are in different races.
85.Employers should pay attention toB if they want to avoid anger between employees.
A.the different understanding of problems in the workplace
B.the different views on value of work and working methods
C.the different generations of employees in the workplace
D.the different ways of expressing anger in the company
86.The word"enmity"is closet in meaning toA.
A.hatred                     B.sorrows            C.ignorance                D.forgiveness
87.What does the writer mainly talk about in the passage?D
A.Employees should be cooperative and friendly with each other.
B.It is difficult for employers to have workers work in a friendly way.
C.The weakness of human nature causes the anger between employees.
D.The generational differences cause the disharmony among employees.

2.In many American schools the holiday celebrating Dr.Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday is used as an opportunity to teach children about his life and legacy.But in too many of those same schools,Black children's extraordinary talents are still being wasted today.Nearly three-quarters of Black fourth and eighth grade public school students cannot read or compute at grade level.
Black students made up only 18 percent of students in public schools in 2009-2010 but were 40 percent of students who received one or more out-of-school suspensions(暫被停學(xué)).A Black public school student is suspended every four seconds.Black students are more than twice as likely to drop out of school as White students.Each school day 763 Black high school students drop out.So I applaud the U.S.Departments of Education and Justice for their recent action to address harmful school discipline policies that push so many thousands of black children out of school each year and into the teenager justice and adult prison pipeline.If the education system is to do its part in replacing it with a cradle(搖籃) to college,career and success pipeline,we must end the current practice where children in the greatest need are suspended from school mostly for nonviolent offenses.
These resources,officially known as"guidance",will help schools and districts meet their legal responsibility to protect students from discrimination on the basis of race,color or national origin as required under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.As we recognize the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964and so many other important hard-won victories in the Civil Rights Movement this year,we must remember those victories could be lost without meaningful enforcement of the laws advocates fought so hard to win half a century ago.
While the guidance does not prohibit schools or districts from using any particular nondiscriminatory policy,it does doubt some policies that have historically excluded Black students and are of questionable educational value including"zero tolerance"discipline policies which require compulsory consequences for certain infractions(違反),and policies that prevent students from returning to school after completion of a court sentence.
Information of the new guidance recommendations is available at this government website for almost every school and district in the country.Check your own school district now to see whether the discipline policy is focused on creating a positive school climate and preventing misbehavior,whether consequences are clear,appropriate and consistent,and whether there is a commitment to fairness in the application of discipline.

A.Unsatisfactory situation of Black students'education.

1.Students who date in middle school have significantly worse study skills.They are four times more likely to drop out of school and report twice as much alcohol and tobacco use than their single classmates,according to new research from the University of Georgia.
"Romantic relationships are a trademark of adolescence, but very few studies have examined how adolescents differ in the development of these relationships,"said Pamela Orpinas, study author and professor in the College of Public Health and head of the Department of Health Promotion and Behavior.
Orpinas followed a group of 624 students over a seven-year period from 6th to 12th grade.
Each year,the group of students completed a survey indicating whether they had dated and reported the frequency of different behaviors,including the use of drugs and alcohol.Their teachers completed questionnaires about the students'academic efforts.He found some students never or hardly ever reported dating from middle to high school,and these students had consistently the best study skills according to their teachers.Other students dated infrequently in middle school but increased the frequency of dating in high school.
"At all points in time,teachers rated the students who reported the lowest frequency of dating as having the best study skills and the students with the highest dating as having the worst study skills,"according to the journal article.Study skills refer to behaviors that lead to academic success such as doing work for extra credit,being well organized,finishing homework,working hard and reading assigned chapters.
"Dating a classmate may have the same emotional problems of dating a co-worker,"Orpinas said,"when the couple break up,they have to continue to see each other in class and perhaps witness the ex-partner dating someone else.It is reasonable to think this could be linked to depression and divert (轉(zhuǎn)移)attention from studying."
"Dating should not be considered a ceremony of growth in middle school,"Orpinas concluded.
