A stress ball is a small ball designed to help relieve stress by exercising the muscles in the hand. Actually, a stress ball does not necessarily have to be shaped like a ball. 【1】 The main characteristic is that it can fit easily in a hand, and it is changeable, allowing a user to squeeze it out of shape while providing some resistance to force the muscles of the hand to work.
【2】 Squeezing a stress ball while imagining a reduction in stress is a frequently-recommended stress management tool for people in demanding jobs. Stress balls are often given away at conferences and other corporate events as promotional tools, reflecting their widespread use.
In addition to this, a stress ball can be useful for physical strain. Physical therapists use a very similar tool to help people flex and stretch the muscles in their hands. Squeezing a stress ball can reduce the amount of strain associated with repetitive tasks like typing. 【3】 .
A variety of things can be used to fill a stress ball. The filling should be firm, with a bit of give to it, forcing people to work to deform the stress ball. You can make your own basic stress ball by filling a balloon with corn starch(淀粉). Beans and plastic granules(顆粒) may also be used. 【4】 .
Using a stress ball doesn’t require any particular instructions or skills. 【5】 Repeated use of a stress ball can, of course, cause the same problems that other repetitive motions are associated with, but taking breaks from typing and other repetitive tasks to squeeze a stress ball a few times can be beneficial.
A. However, these fillings are less smooth.
B. Also, it can help to develop hand strength.
C. All you need to do is pick the ball and squeeze it.

I’d never seen this girl before. A girl whispered in my ear, “ Did you know she’s wearing diapers(紙尿褲)?”
After school that evening, I asked my sister about the girl I’d seen. She told me her name was Theresa and that she was a very nice girL .“ Why were those kids being mean to her? I asked, “Because they’re stupid,” she said.
One day, I was walking home from school when I heard voices behind me. “There’s the little idiot’s (傻子)sister. Does your sister wet her pants too?” I walked a little faster and then I felt a atone hit me in the back. When I got home, I ran down to my sister’s room.

【題目】The largest land animal remaining on the earth, the African elephant is of much importance to African ecosystem. Unlike other animals, the African elephant is to a great extent the builder of its environment. As a giant plant-eater, it significantly shapes the forest-and-savanna (大草原) surroundings in which it lives, therefore deciding the conditions of existence for millions of other animals that live in its habitat.
It is the elephant’s great desire for food that makes it both a disturber of the environment and an important builder of its habitat. In its continuous search for the 300 pounds of plants it must have every day, it kills small trees and underbushes, as well as pulls branches off big trees. This results in numerous open spaces in not only deep tropical forests but also the woodlands that cover part of the African savannas. In these open spaces are numerous plants in various stages of growth, which attract a variety of other plant-eaters.
Take the rain forests for example. In their natural state, the spreading branches overhead shut out sunlight and prevent the growth of plants on the forest floor. By pulling down trees and eating plants, elephants create open spaces, allowing new plants to grow on the forest floor. In such situations, the forests become suitable for large-hoofed plant-eaters to move around and for small-sized plant-eaters to obtain their food as well.
Scientists are worried now that the African elephant has become an endangered species. If the elephant dies out, scientists say, many other animals will also disappear from vast areas of forest and savanna, greatly changing and worsening the whole ecosystem.
【1】What is the passage mainly about?
A. Disappearance of African elephants.
B. Forests and savannas as habitats for African elephants.
C. The effect of African elephants' search for food.
D. The eating habit of African elephants.

A. it creates open areas in deep tropical forests as well as woodlands
B. it pulls off the branches and leaves, shutting out the sunshine
C. its eating habit can be made use of by large-hoofed and small-sized animals
D. it encourages some kinds of plants growing in an indirect way
【3】According to the passage, which of the following statements is true?
A. Numerous grown plants are the favorites of plant-eaters.
B. The extinction of the African elephant has nothing to do with the ecosystem.
C. Quantities of plants are consumed by African elephants, including branches and underbushes.
D. The forest floor in rain forests is scarcely dotted with new shoots.
【4】The passage is developed mainly by .
A. presenting the changes in time order
B. making comparisons and giving examples
C. classifying similarities and differences
D. showing the effect and then explaining the reasons

I rushed out and it was my mother, who is already in the fifties, that brought me lunch, in spite the heavy rain. In China, many parents make great sacrifices for our children. But what had the children done in return? All too often, most children just take it for granted that their parents should serve for them unconditionally.
