【題目】Put technology in the hands of someone like Elon Musk and it can send people into space, make a future of clean and renewable energy a reality, or build electric cars. Put in your hands, and it can help you achieve all sorts of things, from learning to code to learning a language.
Educational apps are becoming increasingly popular as a supplement(補(bǔ)充), and sometimes as an alternative
(替代物), to traditional education. Why? Well, for starters, it’s extremely convenient to learn on a pocket-sized device that you already carry around with you at all times. The best apps are also highly interactive and adaptive, coaxing you in and getting you hooked on learning.
But apps, just like textbooks and language lessons, are a medium through which a language can be studied. The way you use them will affect how successful you are. If you flick through a textbook and don’t dare say a word in your language lessons, you’ll make slow progress. The keen reader who repeats each exercise in the textbook and engages the teacher in the conversation will move ahead. So how do you ensure you get the most out of your app, and what should you consider before you install(安裝) one?
Before that, a very quick introduction: I developed the following five points from my experience as both a language teacher and learner, and from working in startups in the field of language. I spent six years teaching in Germany and Spain as well as developing a video learning startup. However, I first cam to language learning late. I started learning Spanish at 22, and was able to use Spanish and German freely by about 28. I’ve been using language apps for the last few years, and participated in two successful one-week challenges to go from zero to hero in Italian and French. If you’re interested, you can see the French challenge here.
So, just before downloading an app, here’s what you should think about…
【1】We infer that Elon Musk is most probably __________.
A. an app developer
B. a language teacher
C. a professor at college
D. an engineer and tech company owner
【2】What does the underlined part in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A. Causing you to get tired of learning.
B. Encouraging you to interact with others.
C. Making you keep learning the language.
D. Providing new leaning methods for you.
【3】What does the author want to show by giving the example of how one uses a textbook?
A. Doing exercise is important.
B. Different people learn differently.
C. Textbooks have become out of date.
D. We should use a language learning app correctly.

Recently our class have had a heat discussion on whether the score of English should be reduced by 100. Opinions concerned this hot topic vary from person to person.
Some students in favor of it. They thought reducing the score may be a good chance for our students, we are supposed to attach much important to Chinese. It is no need for every student to learn English so hard.
However, others disagree with it. They think it’s English that play an important role in international communication. In their opinion, reduce the English score isn’t a wise choice.
Personally, I agree with the latter.

【題目】Ahead of so-called Singles’ Day on the 11th of this month,2013, online sales have already begun peaking.
The leading e-business platform, tmall.com, has promoted(促銷) its fifty-percent-off discount(折扣) to attract consumers. They are also trying to attract buyers through social media. Vice President of tmall.com Wang Yulei says more than 20 thousand online stores have joined the Double 11 Day sales. But this number has doubled. The final number of how many products going to be on sale has not been known yet. But so far, many more products planned to be put on shelves with discounts.
During last year's Singles’ Day, tmall.com, together with taobao.com, reached a record of 19.1 billion yuan in sales, which considered a milestone in the e-business history of China.
Singles’ Day was first started by Chinese college students in the 1990s as the opposite of Valentine’s Day, a celebration for people without romantic partners. But now, the Singles’ Day has been promoted as a kind of grand craze just for the shopping season, thanks to thousands of discounted products being promoted online.
Taobao.com was the first big e-retail platform which used the double 11 idea to promote sales. Taobao.com reached one million yuan worth of sales on that day in 2009, when they first promoted the Singles’ Day idea. In 2010, the sales increased to 936 million yuan. The figure climbed up to 5.3 billion yuan in 2011, putting huge demand on shipping services. The figure doubled in 2012.

【題目】No one can deny China’s efforts to reach for the sky.
At one kilometer high, the two Phoenix Towers planned for Wuhan, the capital of Hubei province in central China, will be the tallest in the world if completed on schedule in 2017.
The towers will also be pink, crazily futuristic and environmentally friendly.
Designed to sit on an island in a lake, the largest of the towers will stand 172 meters taller than Burj Khalifa in Dubai.
“We were asked to create an iconic building for Wuhan, which embodies a strong environmental and social content as well as reflecting Chinese tradition,” Laurie Chetwood of UK-based design firm Chetwoods Architects told CNN.
The design is inspired by dualism(二元論) in Chinese culture-the traditional Chinese phoenix symbol of the two birds, Feng and Huang, as well as the idea of yin and yang.
Feng and Huang, or phoenix, are a pair of mythical birds in Chinese culture traditionally used to denote royalty.
Three large spheres containing restaurants will be accessible via suspended “skywalks” between the two towers.
The spheres “represent planets orbiting the towers”, according to the designers.
The larger building will also have the unlikely boast of housing the world’s tallest kaleidoscope(萬花筒) driven by a wind turbine(渦輪機(jī)).
A commercial square at the towers’ base will meet China’s growing demand for cultural tourism.
“You’ll have a French street, a Japanese street, a Turkish street, and so forth… to allow people to see the world without necessarily having to leave China,” Chetwood told the Guardian.
The towers are designed /span>to have green features such as pollution-absorbing surfaces to filter the city’s air as well as technology to filter the water.
The towers are designed to be able to produce enough power to fulfill their own needs and those of neighboring areas.
“If you work in the UK, if you come up with anything that’s off the wall ( 有點出格的) or slightly out there, you sort of get kicked back,” Chetwood said. “ In China it goes the other way- they ask for a bit more. That’s a stimulating experience for a designer.”
【1】Which of the following about the two Phoenix Towers is TRUE?
A. Their inspiration comes from Chinese culture.
B. At present they are the tallest in the world.
C. They will be surrounded by three ground-level spheres.
D. People will have a taste of foreign flavors inside the spheres.
【2】According to Laurie Chetwood in the last paragraph, China’s response to new ideas is _________.
A. doubtful B. negative
C. cautious D. enthusiastic
【3】This article focuses on the _________ of the two Phoenix Towers.
A. appearances B. construction
C. features D. height
【4】 Which would be the best title for the passage?
A. The Phoenix Towers: Pink and controversial.
B. The Phoenix Towers: Super tall and green.
C. The Phoenix Towers: Work of a Great Architect.
D. The Phoenix Towers: Work of China-UK cooperation.

It is known to all that we students today have to fix our attention to our lessons, so we know few of society. A holiday is the best time and the best chance to make up for that. Take a part-time job is a good form of social practice. That we have learned in books and in class can’t have the same important effect us as what we have learned through personal practice. In social practice, we can surely make a progress in both knowledge or practical ability. Beside, when we take a part-time job, we may got paid more or less to help our family. Thus, I will say senior school students should take part-time jobs in their holidays, if possibly.
