20.Just be happy.Sounds too simplistic,doesn't it?But,in reality,we can have much more happiness if we choose to consider things from a positive point of view.Everyone experiences the ups and downs of life,however,we can make a decision to take advantage of the negative or practice what the old saying says to do:"When life gives you lemons, make lemonade!"It really boils down to your attitude and you have the ability to work your attitude into any shape you like. Here are some tips:
•Ignore those who tell you life is too difficult to be happy. What do they know?
•When you awaken each morning,be thankful for another day, even if it's raining.
•Smile at those you meet, even if they don't return the favor.
•Don't borrow trouble.Each day has enough of its own.
•Don't allow trouble to bury you in its gray depth of sorrow.
•Don't give in to negative thinking.

•Whistle(吹口哨) as you go through the day.
•Work at being happy because it's worth it.
You're human,like everyone else,and from time to time you need a little pick-me-up in your decision to be happy.When you reach that stage,find someone else who has decided to be happy.Join forces with him and march forward in your decision to be a happy person.Simply speaking,a happy person is not a person in a certain set of circumstances but rather a person with a certain set of attitudes.

5.Can you believe your eyes?A recent experiment suggests that the answer to that question may depend on your age.
Martin Doherty,a psychologist at the University of Stifling in Scotland, led the team of scientists. In this experiment,Doherty and his team tested the perception(觀察力) of some people, using pictures of some orange circles. The researchers showed the same pictures to two groups of people. The first group included 151 children aged 4 to 10,and the second group included 24 adults aged 18 to 25.
The first group of pictures showed two circles alone on a white background. One of the circles was larger than the other, and these people were asked to identify the larger one.Four-year-olds identified the correct circle 79 percent of the time.Adults identified the correct circle 95 percent of the time.
Next, both groups were shown a picture where the orange circles, again of different sizes, were surrounded by gray circles. Here's where the trick lies in.In some of the pictures, the smaller orange circle was surrounded by even smaller gray circles--making the orange circle appear larger than the other orange circle, which was the real larger one.And the larger orange circle was surrounded by even bigger gray circles--so it appeared to be smaller than the real smaller orange circle.
When young children aged 4 to 6 looked at these tricky pictures, they weren't fooled-they were still able to find the bigger circle with roughly the same accuracy as before.Older children and adults,on the other hand, did not do as well.Older children often identified the smaller circle as the larger one,and adults got it wrong most of the time.
As children get older,Doherty said, their brains may develop the ability to identify visual context(背景).In other words, they will begin to process the whole picture at once:the tricky gray circles,as well as the orange circle in the middle. As a result, they're more likely to fall for this kind of visual trick.
71.Doherty and his team of scientists did an experiment to evaluate.D
A.children's and adults'brains
B.children's and adults'eye-sight
C.the influence of people's age

B.children at 6 got it wrong 79%of the time with no gray ones around
C.children at 4 got it right about 79%of the time with gray ones around
D.only adults over 1 8 got it right 95%of the time with gray ones around
73.According to the passage,we can know that.A
A.a(chǎn) circle surrounded by bigger ones looks smaller than its real size
B.a(chǎn)n orange circle appears bigger than a gray one of the same size
C.a(chǎn) circle surrounded by other circles looks bigger than its real size
D.a(chǎn) smaller orange circle appears bigger on a white background
74.Visual context may work when children get older than.B
A.4               B.6               C.10              D.18
75.Why are younger children not fooled?D
A.Because older people are influenced by their experience.
B.Because they are smarter than older children and adults.
C.Because people's eyes become weaker as they grow older.
D.Because their brains can hardly notice related things together.

15.Have you ever noticed what happens to an idea once you express it?Just talking about it or writing it down causes you to make it clear in your own mind. How can you use this to increase your brain power?Start writing.
By putting thoughts into words, you are telling yourself the logic(邏輯)behind what you think, feel,or only partly understand.Often, explaining a thought is the process of understanding. In other words, you increase your brain power by exercising your"explain power."
Try this experiment.Explain how you'll increase your brain power, even if you have no idea how right now.Just start with anything, and create an explanation. For example, start with"I'll learn chess,"or"I'll read an article on the mind every week."Explain how that will help. You'll be surprised how often this becomes a workable plan, and if you actually do this, you'll have a better understanding of your brain from now.
Another benefit of writing is that it helps you remember. Many,if not most, highly productive people are always taking notes. You can try keeping it all in your head, but if you keep a journal of your ideas the next time you're working on a big project, you'll probably have more success.
Want to understand a topic?Write a book about it.That's an extreme example, but if you are learning something new, write a letter to a friend about it,and you will understand it better.Want to invent something?Write an explanation of the problem, why you want to solve it,and why it is worth solving, and you're half-way there.
Writers don't always write because they clearly understand something beforehand.Often, they write about something because they want to understand it.You can do the same.Writing will help bring you to an understanding.Give it a try.

2.Are you sometimes a little tired and sleepy in the early afternoon? Many people feel this way after lunch. They may think that eating lunch is the cause of the sleepiness.Or,in summer, they may think it is the heat. However, the real reason lies inside their bodies. At that time-about eight hours after you wake up-your body temperature goes down. This is what makes you slow down and feel sleepy.Scientists have tested sleep habits in experiments where there was no night or day.The people in these experiments almost always followed a similar sleeping pattern (模式).They slept for one long period and then for one short period about eight hours later.
In many parts of the world, people take naps(小睡) in the middle of the day. This is especially true in warmer climates, where the heat makes work difficult in the early afternoon.Researchers are now saying that naps are good for everyone in any climate.A daily nap gives one a more rested body and mind and therefore is good for health in general. In countries where naps are traditional, people often suffer less from problems such as heart disease.
Many working people, unfortunately, have no time to take naps.Though doctors may advise taking naps, employers do not allow it!If you do have the chance, however, here are a few tips about making the most of your nap.Remember that the best time to take a nap is about eight hours after you get up.A short sleep too late in the day may only make you feel more tired and sleepy afterward. This can also happen if you sleep for too long.If you do not have enough time, try a short nap-even ten minutes of sleep can be helpful.

19.People who smoke could lose around one third of their daily memory, researchers say.
A study by a team at Northumbria University showed that smokers lost more of their memory when compared to non-smokers.
And the research also found that those who kicked the habit saw their ability to recollect information restored to almost the same level as non-smokers.
The study involved more than seventy 18-to-25-year-olds and included a tour of the university's campus. Those who took part were asked to recall small details, such as a list of songs played at a campus concert and tasks completed at various points-known as real world memory test.Smokers performed badly, remembering just 59 percent of tasks. But those who had given up smoking remembered 74 percent and those who had never smoked recalled 81 percent of tasks.
Dr.Tom Heffernan, who leads Northumbria University's Collaboration for Drug and Alcohol Research Group, said the findings would be useful in anti-smoking campaigns. He said,"Given that there are up to 10 million smokers in the UK and as many as 45 million in the United States,it's important to understand the effects smoking has on everyday cognitive(認(rèn)知的)function-of which prospective memory is an excellent example."
"This is the first time that a study has set out to examine whether giving up smoking has an impact on memory. We already know that giving up smoking has huge health benefits for the body, but this study also shows how stopping smoking can have knock-on benefits for cognitive functions too.''
The research will now investigate the effects of passive smoking on memory, while Dr.Heffernan and Dr.Terence O'Neil will look into the effects of third-hand smoking-toxins left on curtains and furniture.
