He was still sitting there as we left for the parking lot,and I asked my daughter "Should they get him some food and some money?"and she said "OK.".So I pulled up next to him,got out of the car,but gave him all my egg money.I still had another dozen egg in the car,and asked if he wanted them, but he said no.I felt freezing just standing there talking with him for a minute, and he must have been sitting there since hours.

I'm glad we stopped, got out of the car and talked with him for a minute.I hope he will have a warm and comfort place to sleep tonight.

第九處:這里for+時(shí)間表示的是一段時(shí)間而且前面的時(shí)態(tài)用的是現(xiàn)在完成進(jìn)行時(shí),故since改為for。

第十處:這里應(yīng)該用形容詞與前面的warm相對(duì)應(yīng),故comfort改為comfortable。

Attraction of the Minions

When it comes to film, people usually favor good over evil, focus on the hero and ignore the supporting characters. __【1】__

Originally comedic background characters in the film Despicable Me(卑鄙的我), these yellow pill-shaped nuts, have totally stolen the show and turned into a popular figure.

This summer the characters debuted(首演) in their own self-titled movie in theaters abroad, having the second biggest opening weekend of all time for a cartoon film according to USA Today. Recently, McDonald’s has been including Minion toys with kids’ meals in some areas, causing loyal fans to flock to the restaurant to collect them all. _2__

The movie’s huge popularity even surprised its writers. “We never knew the Minions were going to be so popular. It just became a force of nature,” the film’s co-writer Cinco Paul told the Los Angeles Times.

__3__For many, the appeal is obviously their cuteness. Their simple nature can easily surpass cultures and age groups. Even children can draw them. Thousands of examples of fan-made Minion art from fingernails to Halloween clothes are visible on global social media platforms.

But there’s more to the phenomenon than just cuteness. US entertainment website Hit Fix explains that their way of communicating makes the creatures influential as well. __4__ But it seems everyone can understand them through their exaggerated(夸張的) movements and expressions.

More importantly, their childlike mannerisms is a brand of humor that wins hearts. “Clumsy, foolish Minions are recognized as the ultimate β personalities,” wrote Peter Debruge of US entertainment magazine Variety.

They desire nothing more than to serve their most despicable master. __5__ "Perhaps we love Minions because they remind us of ourselves," Huffington Post associate Web editor Sara Boboltz wrote, "or an evil version of ourselves."

A. So what makes the banana-loving Minions a big hit?

B. Besides, their childlike manner entertains fans more.

C. And this evil characteristic arouses sympathy among humans.

D. Related video games, toys and other goods are sweeping the world.

E. Minions is a 2015 American 3D computer-animated family comedy film.

F. But when it comes to the Minions, these conventions go right out the window.

G. The largely speak in nonsense words with the occasional recognizable terms like “potato”.

I am travelling back with my parents from seeing my grandparents then it started to snow. At first, I thought it was fun and everything looked beautifully. I was looking forward to make a snowman on the playground at school the next day, and suddenly the car drove off road and into a channel. My father called the rescue team, but they said that would be a long time before they could reach us. However, we sang songs and told stories to pass the time. Several hour later, the rescue team pulled their car out of the channel. At last, we managed to drive very slowly to home. I would never forget this experience.

Once a man asked a painter to painting a picture for him. He told the artist he didn't want any shadows in the picture, just sunshine, but the artist did so. When the man saw the finishing picture, he was disappointing. Without shadows, everything in the picture looks flat and unreal. The point of the story is that we need both shadows and sunshine to have a completely picture, just as we need both rain and sun to have living world. People, too, needs both sadness and happiness. 【題目】Section B (10 marks)

Directions: Read the following passage, answer the questions according to the information given in the passage.

Generosity and kindness does not mean that you give only when you have a lot or after fulfilling all your needs, but in fact you can still give when you yourself are struggling. Generosity literally means willingness and liberty in giving away one’s own money, time, talent, etc. sincerely without any personal gain as shown in the following story.

Mahatma Gandhi went from city to city, village to village collecting funds for the Charkha Sangh. During one of his tours he addressed a meeting in Orissa. After his speech a poor old lady got up. She was gone with age, her hair was grey and her clothes were in rags. The volunteers tried to stop her, but she fought her way to the place where Mahatma Gandhi was sitting.

“I must see him,” she insisted. She went up to Mahatma Gandhi and touched his feet. Then from the folds of her sari(卷布), she brought out a copper coin and placed it at his feet. Mahatma Gandhi picked up the copper coin and put it away carefully. The Charkha Sangh funds were under the charge of Jamnalal Bajaj. He asked Mahatma Gandhi for the coin but Mahatma Gandhi refused.

“I keep cheques worth thousands of rupees (盧比) for the Charkha Sangh,” Jamnalal Bajaj said laughingly, “yet you won’t trust me with a copper coin.” “This copper coin is worth much more than those thousands,” Mahatma Gandhi said. “If a man has one hundred thousand rupees and he gives away a thousand or two, it doesn’t mean much.” “But this coin was perhaps all that the poor lady possessed. She gave me all she had. That was very generous of her. What a great sacrifice she made. That is why I value this copper coin more than ten millions of rupees.
