During these past few days I have been reflecting a lot on everything that happened this past year and thinking of what I can do differently so that the coming year will be much better! Here I want to share some tips so you can also do your resolution and you can achieve them all!

·Be realistic: You should always try to reach for the skies with your goals, but things like “I want to win the lottery(彩票)” or “I want to lose 80 pounds in 1 month” are things you shouldn’t have on your list because they will only become frustrations.

·Be detailed: It’s a lot easier to accomplish more specific plans than general ones. Instead of writing “I want to lose weight,” put things like “I will start my Yes You Can! Diet Plan the first Monday of the year” or “I will start a movement routine 3 times a week for 35 minutes.” When we put down concrete activities, we commit ourselves to them and it becomes a lot harder to come up with excuses.

·Think of alternatives: At the beginning of this past year, you put that you were going to start going to the gym as one of your annual plans. During the whole year you intended to take action but you always said that you couldn’t because you came home so tired from work. If this is one of your plans for this year, you should write down how you’re going to achieve it. For example, “I will start going to the gym in the mornings, before work.” That way you prevent what stopped you from achieving your goal last year.

·Focus on goals which depend on YOU: It is very important that all of your plans are for YOU to accomplish, and it is important that you write them down that way. If one of your goals this coming year is to improve a relationship with one of your family members, make sure that you clearly put down what you are going to do for this to succeed. For example, “I will call my sister at least three times a week and I will visit her in the middle of the year.”

Well, I hope that you use these tips so that this year you will accomplish everything you want, and make it the best year ever! Thank you for being with me during everything this past year, and I hope that you keep showing me all of this love and support during the next. Happy new year!

What are the biggest problems that society will have to deal with in the new age? There are diseases like AIDS and cancer. There’s climate change, of course. And what about producing enough cheap food and energy for the world’s growing population? Who’s going to solve all these terrible problems? Yes, politicians and world leaders will have a big part to play. Yes, businesses will need to create the economic wealth to pay for some of these things. But who’s going to make a much greater difference to something like AIDS or climate change? It’s going to be a scientist. It is the scientist who can turn some new bit of science into a new technology to solve these problems.

If you like thinking about the world around you, why not become a scientist? It doesn’t mean you have to wear a white coat and plastic glasses and spend all your time in a lab as most people often imagine! Scientists do all kinds of amazing things that are actually interesting!

Military scientists develop not only new weapons but new military technologies that could help make wars out of date. Forensic(法醫(yī)的) scientists work with the police to find quite small clues to catch criminals. Scientists work in schools and colleges as the teachers and professors who will train tomorrow’s scientists. Don’t think a scientist is far away! Maybe you like cooking? You could be a food technologist helping to keep fruit and vegetables fresher for longer. Perhaps sport is your thing? Do you know that most top athletes work with sports scientists in order to improve their performance? You could even be the science writer who gets to spend the life studying the latest advances and sharing them with the world.

Looking for something to do for the rest of your life? My advice? Take a long and hard look at science. It is interesting and ever.

My daughter Alisa was born blind in her right eye and was bullied (欺侮) pretty severely in school. So I quitted my job as a babysitter and then schooled my daughter heart and soul at home.

A year ago a boy of 14 befriended my daughter on Facebook after reading something Alisa wrote about bullying. Today he messaged her and asked if she would like six tickets to a Colorado Rockies baseball game. They have never met in person but she said, “Sure! That would be great.”

Then I received a call from his mother explaining why her son had chosen my daughter. She said he thought my daughter deserved them because of all the good she did in the community. Her son, she explained, had experienced a similar situation and was also home schooled.

What she said is true. Now my daughter Alisa continues to teach groups of girls in trouble in our community how to look within themselves for the positive and how to be their own person.

Everything taken into consideration, we decided to meet the mother and the boy at a local bike shop. After meeting, the boy approached my car and my daughter gave him a hug and thanked him for his generosity. She told him that she had never been to a baseball game and that she was going to take her entire family, including myself, her dad, little sister, her cousin and an aunt who has brain cancer.

We all thanked one another, got in our car, and went our way. As we drove home my daughter opened the envelope. Inside it were the tickets and $100 each to buy hot dogs, pay for parking and not have any worries but a great time.

My daughter has always been the giver and now she and our family are the receivers and I can not tell you how incredibly honored we feel to be on the other end. What an incredible young man to have such a kind idea.

科目:高中英語 來源:2015-2016學(xué)年河北石家莊一中高一下學(xué)期一次月考英語卷(解析版) 題型:閱讀理解

The US plans to extend its endangered species protection to lions in Africa. US Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) will classify lions in southern and eastern Africa as threatened. The move will place tighter restrictions on the import of lion “trophies(紀(jì)念品)”, such as paws or heads.

While the US cannot regulate hunting in other countries the move is significant because around half of all lion hunting in Africa is conducted by Americans. According to FWS data, more than 5, 600 lions have been killed and imported by American hunters over the past decade.

Under the new FWS rules, bringing lion parts to the US will be banned(禁止) in most circumstances if the animal is from a country where lions are endangered. Hunters will have to show the trophies were “l(fā)egally obtained” from countries that have a scientifically sound management program that benefits the subspecies in the wild.

This regulation is expected to place a far greater burden of proof upon hunters who claim that the money from lion hunting has been used to help communities in Africa and the overall conservation of lions. The persistent downward trend in lion numbers, due to habitat loss and hunting by locals and foreign tourists, suggests there has been little conservation(保護(hù)) benefit from organized hunts.

An international study, published in September, found African lion numbers have decreased by half since 1993, with a further 50% decline expected over the next 20 years for populations in west, central and east Africa.

“The lion is one of the planet’s most beloved species and an irreplaceable part of our shared global heritage,” said Dan Ashe, director of the FWS. “If we want to ensure that healthy lion populations continue to wander around the African savannas(大草原) and forests of India, it’s up to all of us—not just the people of Africa and India--to take action.”

1. Why is the move of US significant?

A. The lions have been killed and imported by American hunters.

B. That is due to habitat loss and hunting by locals and foreign tourists.

C. Around half of all lion hunting in Africa is conducted by Americans.

D. The money from lion hunting has been used to help communities in Africa .

2. Where do most of the lion hunters come from?

A. Southern Africa. B. America.

C. Eastern Africa. D. India.

3. What may be the result of the move?

A. The import of lion parts will be strictly limited.

B. Lion-hunting will be illegal all over the world.

C. communities in Africa will benefit a lot.

D. Lion parts will never be legally obtained.

4. What does Dan Ashe really want to tell us in the last paragraph?

A. Almost everybody loves lions.

B. It’s everyone’s duty to protect lions.

C. Lion populations will increase rapidly.

D. Measures must be taken to keep lions fit.
