【3】was left 考查時(shí)態(tài)語(yǔ)態(tài)。
句式be doing sth when...
當(dāng)狀語(yǔ)從句的主語(yǔ)和主句主語(yǔ)一致的時(shí)候,可以表示狀語(yǔ)從句的主語(yǔ)和系動(dòng)詞一起省略,所以在while的后面省略了she was。

Carrots are easy to raise and easy to harvest. They taste good. 【1】
When people think of carrots, they usually picture in their mind a vegetable that is long, thin and orange. 【2】 And not all carrots are orange. For example, Paris Market carrots are about five centimeters around. Rome carrots are thin and about twenty-five centimeters long. And Belgian White carrots are, as their name suggests, white.

【3】 Experts say warm days, cool nights and a medium soil temperature are the best conditions for growing carrots that taste great.
Carrots need time to develop their full sugar content. This gives them their sweetness if you wait too long to pull them from the ground. 【4】 Usually, the brighter the color, the better the taste.
【5】 If the winter is not cold enough to freeze the ground, you can grow and harvest carrots the same way as during the summer months. If the ground does freeze, simply cover your carrot garden with a thick layer of leaves or straw. This will prevent the ground from freezing.

I can’t swim so I have a strong fear of water. Look back at my childhood, I think that three reasons might explain fear. Firstly, I am not allowed to go near the water when I was a child, as my mother had an unreasonable fear of it. Therefore, I was taught to see to the water as something danger. Secondly, my eyes became bad when I was five. If I took off my glass in the water, I couldn’t see something, and this increased my fear. What’s worse, for a child I once saw a neighbor drowned. Since then I have been more frightening.

How to get teenagers to read
Getting teenagers to read sounds like a hard task. The latest Xbox or PSP has got them addicted, or the homework seems to last forever. 【1】 Here is a guide on how to get your teenagers to read.
【2】 You could look at their school homework timetable and work out which evening they have the least amount of work to do. Make sure that your teenager is not going to an out-of-school club that evening.
Buy your teenagers a new set of books. Research the book lists for teenagers. The Chaos Walking Trilogy and The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy are suited for both boys and girls. If your teenager will never sit down to read a book, consider buying them an electronic reader like an Amazon Kindle Paperwhite to encourage them to read. Make sure that the electronic reader you buy can only be used to read. 【3】
Seize opportunities. If they seem unimpressed then whenever you see them not doing anything constructive, encourage them to pick up one of the books you bought. If they say they don’t want the book then take them out to buy some in a bookstore. 【4】
Consider punishments. 【5】 This doesn’t work for everyone but some people find that when your teenager messes up, you can tell them to go to their room and read. They might start to really enjoy the book.
A. Don’t be afraid of wasting money.
B. Electronic readers are harmful to teenagers’ eyesight.
