【題目】 When I reached inside the floorboard, my hand touched what felt like a book. I pulled it out. It was an old and small book: Bartlett’s Familiar Quotations. I wondered whom the quotations (引語) were supposed to be familiar to. What I did know, thanks to Ms. Rattray, my seventh-grade teacher, was the correct way to use quotation marks. I decided to see what was inside this little book.
On the top corners of each page was a word or phrase, I opened it to “comfort and despair” and then “doubt” and “l(fā)ight”. I’d never thought about “l(fā)ight” any other way except as a lamp or daylight. It turned out that Mr Bartlett didn’t feel all these emotions himself. He had gathered up quotations from thousands of other people.
I was relieved to discover that those people were not afraid to express what they thought, including the fears and that they had so many thoughts about things that troubled me. Before this, I was lonely and I didn’t know whom talk to about the world and my role in it.
In ninth grade, I worked as an assistant at our local library. I often hid in the comer, where no one would see me, and I would read. It was at this library that I realized how some of those emotions I’d felt while reading Bartlett’s Familiar Quotations came to life in the characters I had started discovering in novels.
I have bought a few of the newer editions, but the original one is the one that helped me explore my inner self and see more than young mind and heart were able to understand.
【1】How might the author feel when he found the book by chance?
A.Curious.B.Familiar.C.Thankful.D.Puzzled
【2】What does Bartlett’s Familiar Quotations mainly include?
A.Bartlett’s real personal feelings.
B.Thoughts of thousands of people.
C.Emotional stories of other people.
D.A representative word collection.
【3】What do we know about the author in ninth grade?
A.He found time to read Bartlett’s books again.
B.He volunteered to work as a school librarian.
C.He vividly understood the characters’ feelings.
D.He learned to analyze Bartlett’s life in depth.

【題目】Christmas is the biggest holiday in many countries including the US and the UK. Decorating Christmas trees, giving gifts and singing Christmas songs are just a few of the traditions that the two nations share. However, just as there are many cultural differences between the two, Christmas is not the same on both sides of the Atlantic. BBC has pointed out some differences.
According to BBC, the language of Christmas is not completely the same in the US and UK. “Americans will appear confused or chuckle(暗自笑) to themselves if you wish them ‘Happy Christmas’ instead of ‘Merry Christmas’,” BBC said. In addition, the shortening of Christmas to “Chrimbo” is almost unknown in the US. Another difference is the name of the white-bearded man. British people usually call him “Father Christmas” while Americans refer to him only as “Santa Claus” or simply “Santa”.
A good, old US Christmas dinner doesn’t necessarily(必然地)have turkey. BBC explained that Americans prepare special food for Thanksgiving, and they often go for ham or roast beef on Christmas Day. Christmas cake, and Christmas pudding are popular desserts(餐后甜點)in the UK. In the US, however, your post-meal treat will probably be one of the following: pumpkin pie, fruit cake, apple pie, or sweet potato pie.
In the US, but not in the UK, the beautiful Christmas decorations you see in films are real, and some people even turn their houses into light shows, according to BBC. “Driving through American suburbia (郊區(qū)) at Christmas can sometimes feel like a tour of Disney World,” the news network described.
【1】What might be the best title for the passage?
A. Christmas in the world
B. Christmas and traditions
C. The importance of Christmas
D. Christmas on both sides of the Atlantic
【2】What can we learn from the second paragraph?
A. “Chrimbo” is more widely used in the UK.
B. We’d better say “Happy Christmas” to Americans.
C. White-bearded man is usually called “Father Christmas” in the US.
D. The language of Christmas is almost the same in the US and UK.
【3】Which one is TRUE according to the passage?
A. Christmas is not exactly the same in the US and UK.
B. You can see the beautiful Christmas decorations in the UK.
C. Christmas cake, pudding are popular with American people.
D. You may have apple pie or fruit cake in your post-meal in the UK.
【4】Where does the passage probably come from?
A. A science magazine. B. A culture magazine.
C. A guide book. D. A business report.

【題目】A visit to NASA Langley Research Center would be very exciting. You could meet NASA scientists and engineers working with wind tunnels.
Wind tunnels are basically tubes through which air—or a gas—is moved to make “wind” in the tube. This “wind” moves past objects such as airplanes or just parts from airplanes.
It s always a good idea to test a new aircraft design in a wind tunnel before you build the real aircraft. Models tested in wind tunnels will always go through design changes before engineers are satisfied with its design and test results.
Wind tunnels are constructed with some very wide sections as well as some sections much smaller in size. An “open return wind tunnel”is open at both ends of the tube. It is usually largest at one end of the tube where you may even see the fan blade(風(fēng)扇片)that creates the wind. This tube gets smaller as you move away from the fan blade. The tube begins to straighten in the next part of the wind tunnel called the Test Section. This is where you place the model for testing. The tube widens again as you move away from the Test Section.
Another wind tunnel is the “closed return” design. This tunnel is completely contained inside a building. The tunnel moves in a “l(fā)oop” inside the building. A fan is located in the tunnel on one side of the building and the test model is located in the tunnel's Test Section on the other side of the building.
NASCAR race teams even test their race cars in wind tunnels to test and improve a car's design. These teams work hard to reduce a car's drag. In less than 150 years, wind tunnels have allowed mankind to improve cars on the ground, aircraft in the atmosphere, and spacecrafts in space. We can only imagine what will happen with wind tunnels during the next hundred years.
【1】What could be the best title of the passage?
A.What Are Wind Tunnels Made of?
B.What Is a Wind Tunnel and How It Works?
C.Where Can Wind Tunnels Be Found?
D.Why Are Wind Tunnels Used?
【2】Which of the following is the right shape of an “open return wind tunnel”?
【3】In the “close return” wind tunnel, the fan is fixed________.
A.in the Test Section on the other side of the building
B.next to the models in the building
C.a(chǎn)t one end of the opening
D.on the other side of the Test Section
【4】By reducing a race car's drag, ________.
A.the car will becomes lighter
B.the car will be easy to operate
C.the car will move faster
D.the car will look more beautiful
