【答案】
Dear Mr. Craige,
I am writing to tell you something about the l0th English Speaking Contest I took part in last week in our school.
I got the “Top Ten Prize” out of 30 competitors, which was totally beyond my imagination.
When I heard the final result I couldn't believe my ears and jumped with joy. It's thanks to your effort that I have made much more rapid progress in my spoken English. Before the contest, whenever you had free time, you would help me practice my spoken English. You communicated with me as much as possible, and corrected my pronunciation, intonation as well. What's more, you taught me some helpful speaking skills and made me full of confidence. Without your help I couldn't have achieved such a good result. I have benefited from this competition a lot. All in all, I really appreciate your help.
Thank you again for your advice and kind help. I sincerely invite you to my home for dinner and have a good time.
Yours, Li Hua

Dear Grace,
How is everything going with you?
I’ve been in Russia for two months. This is the first time that I’ve been away my family for such a long time. With the help of Katia, a roommate of me, I soon get used to live without my parents around. Katia, like many other Russian girls, are nice and lively. We became friend shortly after we met each other. Although her English is a little hardly to understand, we enjoy chatting and we usually talk a lot about our own family. We’re both surprising that Chinese culture and Russian culture were so different. Now, we are planning a small party for the next Sunday. There, Katia will introduce me to some of her friends, one of who has been to China several times. I just can’t wait.
Write back to me as soon as possible.
Yours,
Bettry

In my surprise, two fire engines were outside my house. I was rather worrying. I told about the firemen that it was my careless cooking which caused the heavy smoke.

【題目】閱讀下列短文,從每題所給的四個(gè)選項(xiàng)(A、B、C和D)中選出最佳選項(xiàng)。
Electronic book publishing has many of the same risks and opportunities as electronic music publishing. By delivering text direct to the user’s computer screen, the e-book could cut down costs, and allow creators to deal directly with their audience, bypassing (繞過) traditional publishers and readers. But it also raises the possibility of mass piracy (盜版). Phil Rance, founder and managing director of Online Originals, a London-based e-book publisher, sums it up. “No one wants Napster (在線音樂服務(wù)) to happen to books.”
Indeed, the most popular MP3 have put the frighteners on (威脅) an industry that generally operates some way behind the “bleeding edge”. The Mata Group, a leading US-based market researcher, says publishers are far too concerned about protecting their rights, “We believe all the recent legal control over Napster is like putting a finger in a river that is already overflowing. Publishers need to deal with reality and come up with new ways to develop wide electronic distribution (分布), asking the question: ‘How can we use the certainty of wide distribution to our advantage?’”
At the moment, most publishers would like to limit the use of e-books to the person who bought them, or to the computer used to download them. If that can be done, e-books become just an extra income stream in a publishing industry that would continue to operate the way it does today, according to Terry Robinson, business manager for Adobe’s e-paper group. “If you’ve cracked digital rights aspect, you’ve cracked the market,” he says.
Robert Nichols, Books Director at BOL agrees, “Rights management is absolutely important. Publishers just say that ‘until copyright is secure, we’re not going to talk’.”
【1】Which of the following can be the best title for this text?
A. Changes Brought by E-books
B. The E-book— an Extra Income Stream
C. An Economic Rise from E-books
D. The E-book— a New and Big Challenge
【2】According to the text, what do e-books and electronic music have in common?
A. They result in piracy.
B. They lead to price reduction.
C. They avoid industry management.
D. They bring in more money to creators.
【3】What do publishers care most about e-books?
A. Copyright. B. Price.
C. Quality. D. Popularity.
