To this day, my mother only speaks to me in Italian. She may speak in some English terms and expressions from time to time, but our conversations are, for the most part, in her mother tongue. And most of those conversations are about food. For us, food —Italian food is an important part of our lives. The food my mother prepared for me and my sister as children is the same food my grandmother created in her small farm kitchen high up in the mountains.

One of my family's dishes of heritage I made sure to learn and perfect is my mother's arancini di riso (Italian rice balls). Arancini, in Italian, means little oranges. After you roll some leftover rice into a small ball, place a piece of mozzarella (馬蘇里拉奶酪 ) in the center, then bread that and fry it, the golden outside resembles one of our favorite fruits. For my family, it also showcased my mother' s ability to always find a delicious way to never let anything go to waste: Last night's good rice was repurposed into this perfect mid-day snack or dinner appetizer.

So, when I take a perfect little arancini out of the hot oil and crack it open, I am immediately transported back to my childhood: I am a little girl getting off the bus and running through the back door to the smell of last night's rice transformed into sticky, delicate goodness. This small snack symbolizes so many important elements in my life: my mother' s waste-not philosophy, her ability to take a few simple ingredients and transform them, and finally, the way she carried her mother' s recipes to the U. S. in her mind and heart so she could, years later, teach me about my heritage through food.

Eating arancini, and all the other recipes my mother continued to make here in the U. S. after leaving Italy, allowed her to teach me who I am, where I come from, and why I should be proud of it all.

The John Cooper Works GP has a special eight-speed automatic transmission, according to the company. It also has paddle shifters (換檔器) on the steering wheel so the driver can shift modes by hand. To save weight, the car only has front seats which are special light weight sports seats.

There’s no choice of paint color on this Mini Cooper. The cars will be painted in Racing Gray, with the mirrors finished in Melting Silver.

The cars are named for John Cooper, a racing driver and race car designer who worked with the British Motor Corporation to create performance versions of the original Minis in the 1960s. Those cars became extremely popular with car racers.

I have been learning English since I am in primary school, but the truth was that I was not so good at listening. Taking her child to school was a suffering Tracey Lewis was worried about. Walking left her breathless, but taking the car meant putting heormous body into the driver’s seat and fastening the seat belt.

“I hated my body,” she admits. “Anything other than sitting and watching TV was a struggle.”

When I went out I had to carry talcum powder with me to rub between my thighs(大腿)to stop them chaffing(擦傷).The only clothes that fitted were huge numbers that only drew attention to my size. I looked awful.”

When Tracey married her husband, Andy, 41, in 1988 she was a slim size 12. But then the weight piled on. She recalls: “We got into the habit of eating out. “I’d always been slim, so when my clothes began to feel tight it didn’t bother me. I thought I’d be able to lose any extra pounds easily enough.”

Then, in 1990, Tracey fell pregnant. She shot up from a size 14 to a size 18. “Being pregnant was an excuse to stuff myself,” Tracey admits.“I didn’t just eat for two, I ate for three or four-maybe more.”

Happy at home with her new baby, Tracey’s weight soon was out of control. Her doctor told her to lose a few pounds instead of comforting herself with food, but after 11 months she hadn’t shifted an ounce.

Soon she weighed 220 pounds and was a size 22. She had to wear cycling shorts under her dresses to stop her legs from developing sores. “By that time I was so self-conscious I avoided going out altogether,” says Tracey. “Andy plays football. I was often invited to drinks and meals, but didn’t want his friends to meet me. I’d hide upstairs at home and cry.” She felt horrified.

A team of over 30 Chinese surveyors left the base camp at Mount Qomolangma for a higher spot【1】its journey to the peak Wednesday as part of the country’s mission to remeasure the height of the world's highest mountain.
