【題目】We are more dependent on technology now than ever before-and for good reason. Our cell phones have more capabilities than laptops did 5 years ago. Technology is quickly becoming faster, more reliable, and yes, more portable.
Because of this, now is a great time to look into purchasing a laptop. Laptops now have the same computing power as desktops and are the least expensive they’ve ever been. If you’ re constantly on the go, it makes sense to have one.
We feature a lot of hot tech deals here at MakeUseOf, but if you’re in the market for a laptop, I've collected the top two laptop computers for you. I only looked at laptops priced under $1,000 that had at least 4GB of RAM, a dual-core processor, and came with Windows 7. Let’s see what we camp up with!
1. Sony Vaio FW 560F/T
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo P7450/2. 13GHz
Memory: 6 GB(8GB Max)
Hard Drive: 500GB
This Sony Vaio laptop has a lot of features that make it very attractive. With a 16-inch screen, it is very slim. It has Blu-ray playback and decent gaming performance, although it doesn’t support 1080p. It makes for a very good multimedia notebook.
2. Samsung NP-R580-JSB1US
Processor: Intel Core i5 15-430M/2. 26GHz
Memory: 4 GB
Hard Drive: 500GB
This laptop comes with a Core i5 processor, NVIDIA graphics, and Blu-ray support. I’ve read that the touch-pad is uncomfortable at times, but the processing power and graphics make it a great laptop with decent battery life.
【1】What is the normal memory of Sony Vaio FW560F/T?
A. 8G B. 5GB C. 4GB D. 6GB
【2】What’s the similarity of Sony Vaio FW560F/T and Samsung NP-R580-JSB1US?
A. Processor B. Memory
C. Hard drive D. Features
【3】The underlined phrase “ makes sense” in Paragraph 2 can be replaced by____.
A. is dependent B. is meaningful
C. is reliable D. is portable
【4】Which of the following is true?
A. Our cell phones have more capabilities than laptops did 3 years ago.
B. Laptops now are the most expensive they’ve ever been.
C. Sony Vaio laptop is very attractive with a 16-inch screen.
D. Sony Vaio laptop supports 1080p.

【題目】A glass a day keeps obesity at bay. Alcohol has always been thought to cause weight gain because of its high sugar content, but new research suggests a glass a day could form part of a diet. Looking at past studies they found that, while heavy drinkers do put on weight, those who drink in moderation can actually lose weight.
A spokesman for the research team at Navarro University in Spain says,“Light to moderate alcohol intake, especially of wine, may be more likely to protect against, rather than promote, weight gain.”The Inter national Scientific Forum on Alcohol reviewed the findings and agreed with most of the conclusions, particularly that current data do not clearly indicate if moderate drinking increases weight.
Boston University’s Dr. Harvey Finkel found that the biologic mechanisms (生物學(xué)機制) relating alcohol to changes in body weight are not properly understood. His team pointed out the strong protective effects of moderate drinking on the risk of getting conditions like diabetes (糖尿病), which related to increasing obesity. Some studies suggest that even very obese people may be at lower risk of diabetes if they are moderate drinkers.
The group says alcohol provides calories that are quickly absorbed into the body and are not stores in fat, and that this process could explain the differences in its effects from those of other foods. They agree that future research should be directed towards assessing the roles of different types of alcoholic drinks, taking into consideration drinking patterns and including the past tendency of participants to gain weight.
For now there is little evidence that consuming small to moderate amounts of alcohol on a regular basis increases one’s risk of becoming obese. What’s more, a study three years ago suggested that resveratrol, a compound present in grapes and red wine, destroy fat cells.
【1】Who is the passage intended for?
A. Those who produce wine.
B. Those who have drinking habit.
C. Those who sell alcohol.
D. Those who wish to quit drinking.
【2】What does the phrase“in moderation”in the first paragraph refer to?
A. Excitedly. B. Carefully. C. Properly. D. Frequently.
【3】What can we learn from the passage?
A. Current data clearly show that moderate drinking increase weight.
B. Resveratrol is proved to increase the risk of becoming fat.
C. The specific roles of different types of alcoholic drinks are very clear.
D. The research found moderate drinking has a strong protective effect.
【4】What is most likely to be discussed in the paragraph that follows?
A. How to do some easy experiments.
B. How to reduce the calories contained in wine.
C. How to make wine in a healthy way.
D. How to prove the finding mentioned above.

Most drinks stating that they are fruit-flavored (水果味道的) contain no fruit at all, while most of the rest contain only a small quantity of fruit, according to a study carried by the British Food Commission.
“Shoppers need to check the labels (標簽) before buying drinks, though sometimes the actual content can be non-existent,” said Food Commission spokesperson Ian Tokelove. “Food production is highly competitive. 【1】 It will increase profits, and consumers won’t always realize they are being tricked.”
Flavorings are focused on the flavors of natural food products such as fruits, meats and vegetables, or creating flavor for food products that do not have the desired flavors. Researchers analyzed the contents of 38 strawberry-flavored products sold in stores. 【2】 Of the 11 products that did contain strawberries, five of them contained less than one percent real fruit. In addition, each juice box contained nearly eight teaspoons of sugar.
【3】 Let’s take jam as an example. Some strawberry-flavored jam was labeled as containing no artificial colors, flavors, or sweeteners, but it contained absolutely no strawberries at all.
【4】 Consumers have the rights to know clearly about what they have bought. Under current UK law, food packages do not have to distinguish between natural and artificial flavoring. “Describing a product as strawberry flavor and covering the surface of the packet with pictures of strawberries is misleading. 【5】 Unfortunately, it is also legal and widespread,” Tokelove said. “It’s time to take measures to protect the consumers’ rights.”
A. The products which contain real fruit are popular with people.
B. The Food Commission suggested all flavors used in a product should be listed on the packaging.
C. If companies can cut their costs by using flavoring, they are likely to do so.
D. Actually the product contains just a tiny percentage of strawberry or even no fruit at all.
E. It is important and necessary to demand a small amount of flavoring in the products.
F. They found that about 60 percent of them didn’t contain any fruit at all.
G. Even products advertised as more natural often contained no fruit.

I’ve been Britain for two years. My friends in China sometime write to me, asked me how long I’ll stay here, and when I’m thinking of returning home. The answer to their question is simple: I do not know how to return home. At the moment, I have no reason to return back to China. I like living in Britain: I enjoy meeting British people and travel around the country. I am expected to have more chances to eat the British food. My study is very interesting, and there are so many things I didn’t know about Britain that I hope to discover it in the future.

How are you? Sorry I haven’t written for so long. I’ve been quite busy arranging my holiday to Africa with my older brother, Colin. Have you ever gone there? We leave London in 15 July, and we’ll be taking a flight to Morocco in northern Africa. We’re going to ride camels through Sahara Desert. It’s the biggest desert in the world— about the size of the US! I expect they will be very hot, dry and dusty there. We’ll be travelling by camels with local guides, camping in tents and sleep on the ground. I had heard that, in the Sahara, there is no shade during the day, but the stars seem especially brilliant on clear nights. Altogether, the trip will take six days, that means I’ll have to sit on a camel for almost a week—how uncomfortably! I hope my camel likes me!
