If you do not use your arms or your legs for some time, they become weak; when you start using them again, they slowly become strong again. Everybody knows this, and nobody would think of questioning this fact. 【1】 When someone says that he has a good memory, he really means that he keeps his memory in practice by exercising it regularly, either consciously or unconsciously. When someone else says that his memory is poor, he really means that he does not give it enough opportunity to become strong. 【2】 One of them exercises his arms and legs by playing tennis, while the other sits in a chair or a motor car all day.
If a friend complains that his arms are weak, we know that it is his own fault. But if he tells us that he has a poor memory, many of us think that his parents are to blame, or that he is just unlucky, and few of us realize that it is just as much his own fault as if it was his arms or legs that were weak. 【3】 But all of us can, if we have ordinary bodies and brains, improve our strength and our memory by the same means— practice.
Have you ever noticed that people who cannot read or write usually have better memories than those who can? 【4】 It’s because those who cannot read or write have to remember things. They cannot write them down in a little notebook and they have to remember dates, time and prices, names, songs and stories, so their memory is being exercised the whole time 【5】 .
A. What do you think of it?
B. Yet many people do not seem to know that the memory works in the same way.
C. Not all of us can become extremely strong or extremely clever.
D. So if you want a good memory, practice remembering.
E. Someone else says that he is poor in health.
F. Why is this?
G. The position is exactly the same as that of two people.

【題目】When you walk into a room on the 17th floor of Copenhagen’s Bella Sky Hotel, you’ll be greeted by soft roses and other fresh flowers, fruits, fashion magazines, and a bathroom with beauty products. This is Europe’s first hotel floor dedicated(專用的)entirely to women—and according to the hotel’s CEO Arne Bang Mikkelsen, it is designed by women, for women.
“Women’s hotel preferences(偏愛)are very different from men’s with key priorities(優(yōu)先考慮的事)being to feel safe and comfortable. When men come into a hotel room, the first thing they do is check the view, turn on the TV, plug in their computer, and check out the fridge. Women, on the other hand, go straight to the bathroom. Does it smell nice? Is it clean? Does it have a nice bathtub and shower?”
Unlike other hotels, it seemed like someone actually thought about what women wanted. To get it right, the hotel asked a number of women what they wanted, and added to their list of things like cleanliness, a nice bathroom, high-powered hairdryers, steam irons, cosmetic mirrors, healthy choices on the room service menus, and full-body mirrors.
It seems that they are helped by the boom(繁榮)in female business travelers. Global numbers are hard to get, but a research report shows women account for about half of all business travelers in the US in 2010, up from approximately 25% in 1991.
Places like the Naumi Hotel in Singapore, the Premier Hotel in New York, the London Dukes Hotel and the Georgian Court Hotel in Vancouver seem to be realizing the possibility in catering(迎合)for women.
At the London Dukes Hotel, the manager says bookings(預(yù)訂)for their “Duchess Rooms”,which are standard rooms with fresh flowers, fruit, and styling things, have increased 25% over the past year.

【題目】I created a writing group at my school this year, and it has become a hit with all students who enjoy writing. Now students of the group make rapid progress in their writing. Let me share a few tips that you can use to start your own writing group.
Set up separate groups for different ability levels
You probably don’t want to mix a gifted eighth grader with a second grader who writes very little. In a larger school, you could have a beginner group, a more advanced group, and a publishing group. Members can move to more appropriate groups if they are not comfortable in the current one.
Advertise the group in different ways
Send advertisements home with students, and put an advertisement on the school website or in the school newsletter.
The first meeting should be very open
At the first meeting, you should tell the students that this group is all about them. It is not a class, not a grade and not a requirement. Then tell them what some other writing groups do, and ask what they would like to do.
Set up a time to meet once or twice a month
It is important that students bring their writing with them. The group could go in any direction: criticize each other’s work, read your writing aloud, read silently, publish your work in a booklet (小冊子), play creativity games or do an online chat with a published author.
It will take a little while to find out what works best for your group
Search for creativity exercises and role plays. You might even be able to set up a special section of your school’s website just for your writing group.
【1】The purpose of this passage is to ________.
A. introduce how to start up a writing group
B. offer some advice on how to teach writing
C. train highlevel students to start up a writing group
D. compare different tips on starting up a writing group

A. problem B. test C. tool D. success
【3】Which of the following is NOT the activity of a writing group?
A. Practice role plays.
B. Meet a published author.
