【題目】March 25, 2020
Dear students and parents.
As our state continues to fight against the spread of COVID-19, the State Board of Education has voted to authorize the closure of all public schools in Oklahoma for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year.
Jenks Public Schools (JPS) will be transitioning to distance learning beginning April 6 through the end of the school year. All JPS school buildings and facilities will remain closed until further notice. All activities, athletic events, club meetings, school sponsored trips are canceled for the 2019-20 school year.
JPS administrators are working on plans for a district-wide distance learning program. Please be patient over the next week as these plans are finalized. As soon as more information is available, you will be notified.
The time being missed due to the coronavirus-related closure will not have to be made up. Summer will not be shortened and as of now, the start of the 2020-21 school year will not be delayed.
We recognize the disappointment and difficulty this closure is causing our students and families. Our thoughts go out to our senior class knowing they will not have the opportunity to walk across a graduation stage in front of their family, friends, and peers. Please be assured, we will find a way to honor our seniors and recognize their achievements.
None of this is easy but despite our distance, we are still one Trojan family. We will continue to love and support each other. We will always make decisions based on what is best for our students. Thank you for your trust. You will hear from us very soon.
Sincerely,
JPS Administration

【題目】 Everyone knows that death is natural, but do you have any idea of the process of dying? Modern scientists divide the process of dying into two periods—clinical or temporary death and biological death. Clinical death occurs when the important organs, such as the heart or lungs, have stopped to function, but have not suffered permanent damage. The organism (有機(jī)體) can still be revived. Biological death occurs when changes in the organism lead to the “breaking up” of important cells and tissues. Death is then unchangeable.
Scientists have been seeking a way to lengthen the period of clinical death so that the organism can remain alive before biological death occurs. The best method developed so far involves cooling of the organism, combined with narcotic (麻醉的) sleep. By slowing down the body’s metabolism (新陳代謝), cooling delays the processes leading to biological death.
To illustrate how this works, scientists performed an experiment on a six-year-old female monkey called Keta. The scientist put Keta to sleep with a narcotic. Then they surrounded her body with ice-bags and began checking her body temperature. When it had dropped to 28 degrees the scientists began draining blood from an artery (動脈). The monkey’s blood pressure decreased and an hour later both the heart and breathing stopped: clinical death set in. For twenty minutes Keta remained in this state. Her temperature dropped to 22 degrees. At this point the scientists pumped blood into an artery in the direction of the heart and started artificial breathing. After two minutes Keta’s heart became active once more. After fifteen minutes, spontaneous (自發(fā)的) breathing began, and after four hours Keta opened her eyes and lifted her head. After six hours, when the scientists tried to give her a penicillin injection, Keta seized the syringe (注射器) and ran with it around the room. It showed that Keta had nothing different from any other healthy animal.
【1】For a person who suffers from the clinical death, _________.
A.he can’t avoid final death
B.he is still very much alive
C.his most important organs are damaged
D.he still has the possibility of getting back to life
【2】Scientists try to make the time of clinical death longer in order to ________.
A.cool the organism
B.slow down the body’s metabolism
C.delay the coming of biological death
D.bring important cells and tissues back to active life
【3】How did the scientists put Keta into clinical death?
A.By surrounding her body with ice-bags and draining her blood.
B.By lowing her blood pressure and stopping her heart from beating.
C.By putting her to sleep, lowering her temperature and draining her blood.
D.By draining her blood, lowering her blood pressure and stopping her breathing.
【4】Which of the following indicates that Keta is a healthy animal after the experiment?
A.Her heart beat again.
B.She seized the syringe and ran away with it.
C.She regained her normal breath.
D.She opened her eyes and lifted her head.

【題目】 If practicing an attitude of gratitude during the storms of life is too much for you right now, that’s OK. When things are tough, most people have a hard time being thankful. They’re so caught up in what’s wrong in the present moment that they simply can’t see some things are still right.
If that’s true for you, then accept it. You’re going through a particularly difficult or unhappy period of time, and you don’t like it one bit. Very normal, very human. But remember this: there is always something to be grateful for. It maybe only a small comfort right now, but it is a start. Make a list of some of the terrible things that didn’t happen. For example:
●You’re in debt...but you’re not homeless.
●You lost your job...but you didn’t lose your health.
●You broke your leg...but you didn’t break your neck.
●Your mother has Alzheimer’s disease...but your father doesn’t.
No matter how bad things are, they could always be worse. Start finding gratitude for what might have happened, but didn’t. It does help a lot. Of course, you may not be thankful for everything — but you can always be thankful for something.
【1】The passage is intended for those who ________.
A.have done a lot for othersB.don’t know how to be thankful
C.have something to do in returnD.have met with difficulties in life
【2】The writer thinks it ________ for people to feel unhappy in time of difficulty.
A.impossibleB.necessary
C.understandableD.helpful
【3】How many “terrible things that didn’t happen” are listed in this passage?
A.Two.B.Four.
C.Three.D.Five.
【4】How is the passage organized?
A.Explanation—Comparison—TopicB.Introduction—Discussion—Conclusion
C.Comparison—Argument—ExplanationD.Argument—Opinion—Discussion
