Anyone who has ever tried to stop smoking knows how difficult it is to quit. There is no lack of information about how unhealthy smoking is for you- not to mention the unpleasant smell. So why would teens ever begin to smoke?
【1】 Research shows that the majority of smokers lit up their first cigarette in their early or mid-teens, precisely at a time when children are beginning to establish their own identity apart from their parents. Smoking can be an act of rebellion(反抗) against parents or authority figures, as well as a way to fit in with others and feel accepted.
Here are some things that parents can do to help a child stay smoke-free.
Start talking to your teen about how bad smoking is for him early, well before his teens. Keep talking, too. 【2】
【3】 For example, smoking makes your hair and clothing smell bad, stains the teeth, and reduces your lung power to play sports.
【4】 Talk about the addictive power of smoking and tell him while those few cigarettes are his choice, the addiction that occurs shortly afterwards makes him powerless to decide whether or not he wants to light up.
Work on self-esteem(自尊) and self-confident with your teen. Much of the attraction of smoking is to gain acceptance. 【5】
Young teens live in the moment, too.
Play on your child’s desire to make his own choices.
The answer lies in the develop-mental stage of your teens.
Give your child the facts, but focus on the things he can relate to.
Help your teen to feel good about himself without having to smoke.
One discussion will not be enough to help your child not to smoke.
They won’t be aware of how powerful addictive smoking is in a very short time.

【題目】No poem should ever be discussed or “analyzed”, until it has been read aloud by someone, teacher or student. Better still, perhaps, is the practice of reading it twice, once at the beginning of the discussion and once at the end, so the sound of the poem is the last thing one hears of it.
All discussions of poetry are, in fact, preparations for reading it aloud, and the reading of the poem is, finally, the most telling “interpretation”(解讀) of it, suggesting tone, rhythm, and meaning all at once. Hearing a poet read the work in his or her own voice, on records or on film, is obviously a special reward. But even those aids to teaching can not replace the student and teacher reading it or, best of all, reciting it.
I have come to think, in fact, that time spent reading a poem aloud is much more important than “analyzing” it, if there isn’t time for both. I think one of our goals as teachers of English is to have students love poetry. Poetry is “ a criticism of life”, and “ a heightening(提升) of life”. It is “an approach to the truth of feeling”, and it “can save your life”. It also deserves a place in the teaching of language and literature more central than it presently occupies.
I am not saying that every English teacher must teach poetry. But those who do teach poetry must keep in mind a few things about its essential nature, about its sound as well as its sense, and they must make room in the classroom for hearing poetry as well as thinking about it.
【1】To have a better understanding of a poem, one should________.
A. discuss it with others B. analyze it by oneself
C. copy it down in a notebook D. practise reading it aloud
【2】According to the writer, one of the purposes of teaching English is to get students________.
A. to understand life. B. to enjoy poetry.
C. to become teachers. D. to become poets
【3】What does the last sentence in the third paragraph imply?
A. More importance should be attached to the teaching of poetry.
B. Poetry is more important than any other subject.
C. One cannot enjoy life fully without an understanding of poetry
D. Poetry is the foundation of all language and literature courses

Most of you love watching movies. They can be funny, sad, imaginative, inspiring, and so much more! There are so many possibilities and so many great movies to watch!
The making of a movie usually begins with a script (劇本). 【1】 The producer is the person who is responsible for coordinating(協(xié)調(diào)) aspects of the film like budget and scheduling. The producer plans out how the project will be carried out and he usually starts by hiring a director!
【2】 The director will usually identify themes or feelings that he or she wants the movie to convey to its audience and will then assemble(聚集) all the other people who will be needed, such as costume-designers, makeup artists, special effects crew, stuntmen, cameramen, and, of course, actors!
Next, shooting begins! 【3】 Often a director will want to get several “takes” (versions) of a scene or moment and usually only a few minutes of the movie are finished in one day’s work. 【4】 So once filming is completed, the director must then work with editors to piece them all together, deciding which takes to use and adding in any special effects or touch-ups.
The entire process from acquiring the script to editing the scenes generally takes months or even years! Once it’s ready, the finished movie is then distributed to movie theatres. 【5】
A. Scenes are also usually not shot in order.
B. The actual filming can be a slow process.
