【題目】Sometimes it can be easy to become too satisfied when it comes to living sustainably. We may all have recycling bins in our kitchens, but here are some ways you can live more sustainably.
1. Put an end to plastic water bottles and one-off coffee cups
The only way this is going to work is that if you have reusable options you really love, invest in a great water bottle. This is an advance payment, but it will save you money in the long run. A 750ml bottle of Evian costs 90p in Tesco, meaning if you buy one every two days you could save 10 within three weeks by filling up a reusable bottle at home.
2. _______________________________________
The high street is problematic on so many different levels. Not only are you buying items with questionable supply chains, but the carbon footprint of each product is shocking as well. Online shopping is even worse, with overpackaging for each item and the emissions from delivery trucks. The answer is to stick to reach-me-down or previously owned items as much as possible. Not only will this save you money, but there’s also a sense of satisfaction in finding a hidden treasure from the flea market where you find outstanding bargains or something used, which you simply can't get from shopping in Wal-Mart or on Amazon.
3. Think hard about your transportation
Even if your car is supposedly a low-emissions model, it’s still going to be a huge contribution to your carbon footprint. There are times when getting in a car can’t be avoided, but if you can substitute just one flight a year with a train, one car journey a week with a bus. and one bus a month with a bike ride, you’ll find that making more mindful transport decisions can easily make your day-to-day life more environmentally friendly with little effort.
4. Try to buy local, seasonal produce
You may think buying strawberries in December or courgettes in spring is no big deal, but the chemicals and fuel used to artificially copy the right environment for them to grow create harmful gas emissions. Similarly, the environmental impact of transporting produce from another country is huge. Buying from local farmers also means you can often ignore the huge amounts of packaging the supermarkets use.
【1】According to the passage, if we want to lower our carbon footprint, we’d better ________.
A. purchase a 75ml bottle of Evian in Tesco every other day
B. never do some shopping in Wal-Mart or on Amazon
C. buy strawberries in December or courgettes in spring
D. take transport with a low-emissions model if possible
【2】Which of the following is most suitable to fill in the blank?
A. Avoid too much traffic on the high street.
B. Buy items without questionable supply chains.
C. Buy second-hand products as much as possible.
D. Avoid buying items with excessive packaging.

【題目】Careers in zoology are extremely varied and unique, and can provide incredible learning and work opportunities for anyone devoted to animal studies and welfare. Zoology, or the study of animals, is a wide field with many specialties, including research, conservation, veterinary (獸醫(yī)的) medicine, and the care of animals. For people with a love of animals and some training, dreams of careers in zoology may come true.
Some careers in zoology focus on research and scientific studies. These careers may allow those with a good theoretical science background to develop and run studies that improve human understanding of the animal world. Research in zoology can help create safer and more effective products for animals or can teach humans more about animal behavior in order to aid in conservation, breeding programs, and habitat preservation.
Careers in zoology that focus on conservation attach great importance to the continued survival and increased protection of animal species. Conservationists may work with political groups or governments to help make laws to protect and preserve animals, or may work in the field gathering information on potential threats to the health of global ecosystems. Some conservationists work in educational fields, trying to improve human efforts to save animals from extinction.
Animals are subject to illness and injury, and some careers in zoology help to create a safe, stable animal population. Veterinary medicine is an important specialty field, and may take several years of intensive training to qualify as a certified veterinarian. While many veterinarians focus on the small-animal practice of domestic pets, vets in rural areas often work with large farm animals and more adventurous veterinarians may work with exotic species in zoos and wildlife preserves. .
Humans love to observe animals, and modern-day zoos and wildlife preserves help meet that interest while providing facilities to assist with conservation programs. Zoology careers in zoos can range from overseeing breeding programs, to creating the proper diet for a deer, to cleaning the tiger’s cage. 【題目】Want to improve your math skills without working hard? Simply zap (擊打) the brain with a weak current of electricity and then, all your problems will be solved! At least that's the claim being made by a team of British scientists from London's Oxford University.
The main aim of the experiment, conducted on a group of student volunteers from Oxford University and University College London, was to test if parts of the brain could be shocked into getting it to work better with numbers.
To test this, 15 students, divided into three groups, were asked to solve the same two mathematical problems every day for a week. The problems, which involved identifying the larger of two numbers and plotting one on a number line, were made a little more challenging by replacing the numbers 19 with symbols.
However, before starting the test, two of the groups were subjected to a 20minute session of a light electric current to the parietal lobe, which the scientists believe is the brain's number cruncher (能迅速運算者). For the first group the current flow was passed right to left, while for the second it was transmitted left to right. The third group received no help at all.
The group that got zapped right to left seemed to show an amazing improvement in their math skills. However, the ones that got zapped left to right were reduced to the level of almost sixyear olds! The results for the people who got no help were somewhere in between.
While scientists are not sure why the direction of the current would make such a difference, they believe that zapping it from the right side, seemed to turn up the activity of the brain cells to math, while going the other way turned or closed them down. Luckily, the impact is expected to last for only six months!
While this is great news, do not fire your math tutor yet. That's because the research, no matter how successful, is not being done to aid lazy students, but to help people who suffer from dyscalculia (計算障礙), a disease which makes people unable to cope with simple daytoday numerical issues, like counting change or figuring out their expenses.
【1】In which time order was the experiment carried out?
a.Divide the students into groups.
b.Test the students with problems.
c.Give some students some electric zapping.
A. a,b,c B. a,c,b
C. b,a,c D. c,a,b
【2】From the passage, we can infer that ________.
A. the direction of zapping the brain is very important
B. the impact of zapping the brain will last forever
C. scientists don't know how to zap the brain correctly
D. people with dyscalculia can't recognize numbers
【3】What is the aim of the experiment?
A. To help students to improve their math grades.
B. To test which part of the brain controls calculation.
C. To help people who suffer from a certain disability.
D. To study whether a light electric current will damage students' brain.
【4】What would be the best title for the passage?
A. Dyscalculia is no longer a problem
B. A good way to improve your math skills
C. Benefit from zapping the brain
D. Improve math skills by zapping the brain

My friend Li Hua used to be rather poor in English, especially his terrible and strange pronunciation. Hardly could he make him understood when speaking English. Bearing a heavy load in mind, he felt desperate and upset. He dared not speak English at class. When asked questions, she was always nervous and embarrassed. The classmates always make fun of him, saying that he was speaking Japanese! Once I met him in the corridor. I told him that his pronunciation was very special and a kind of like Obama's. Believing what I said, he got greatly inspired. He spared no effort to practice speak English every day. Now, he can speak English fluent with a perfect accent.
Recently, he told me that it wasn't long after he knew that I just told a little white lie then but he appreciated badly, without which, he said, he couldn't have achieved such great progresses.

【題目】External bleeding.Apply direct pressure.Place a clean, folded cloth over the injured area and firmly apply pressure. If blood soaks through, do not remove it.Instead, cover that cloth with another one and continue to apply pressure to the wound for 7—10 minutes. If the bleeding is from the ear, place a clean bandage over the ear, lay the victim on his side, and allow the blood to drain out through the bandage.
Elevate the injury.Position the wounded part of the body above the level of the heart if possible while you apply direct pressure.
Know the pressure points. If direct pressure and elevation don't sufficiently slow the bloodflow, find a pressure point.Large arteries(動脈) found close to the skin's surface supply blood to the head and to each arm and leg.The most common pressure points used during the first aid are located in the upper arms and in the creases above the upper legs.Apply pressure to the closest pressure point to the wound so that the artery is pressed between your fingers and the bone directly behind the artery. If using the pressure point on a leg, you may need to use the heel of your hand instead of your fingers.
Resort to a tourniquet (止血帶,壓脈器 ).On very rare occasions everything listed above may fail.To prevent the victim from dying, you should apply a tourniquet.Once a tourniquet is applied,it should not be loosened or removed until the victim has reached medical help.Use a tourniquet only if everything listed above has failed. If you use a tourniquet, write down somewhere on the victim the time when it was applied, so medical persons will know how long it has been in place.
